  1. Most teams don't let you talk to their staff unless you are offering a promotion. We wouldn't be offering Robinson a promotion.

On TSN 990 this morning Shaun Starr mentioned that CBC spoke on the weekend to Don Cape and according to him Larry Robinson has still be promised an interview for the Assistant Coach job. Seems odd that this would happen given as you stated it would not be a promotion unless MB throw a title like Assistant coach and Vice President of bla bla bla.

  2. So while we're bringing Lats and TK back, how bout dumping Bourque and signing AK27. Lazy yes. Awesome yes.

if we could dump Bourque and sign AK27 to entry level deal then why not. We'd shed 2 years of Bourque's contract.

  3. Ha ha, no, Bergevin. Sorry about that. I don't care what that Michel 'Mike Ribeiro will be better than Wayne Gretzky' Bergeron thinks.

And I agree with your point in this post. Pleks and DD have the heart and the skills to be effective. Finding big, strong, productive wingers for them is a totally valid way around their limitations.

One thing for certian though....for the first time in a decade I actually have confidence in management. Hopefully Galchenyuk (assuming we draft him) becomes that element we need.

  4. I dunno about NHL2012, but I agree that Pleks and Desharnais can be a legitimate 1-2 punch down the middle provided they are properly surrounded and effectively managed by the coach. It's not ideal but it is a viable Plan B.

That being said, Bergeron said something recently about wijnning through goaltending, defence, and strong centremen. This implies that he isn't terribly interested in Plan B and is working to land a big centreman.

Bergeron or Bergevin? Because if it's Le Tigre then really who cares what he thinks. Personally I'd love to land a big center but if we can insulate them with big effective bodies then we'll be OK. We're obviously not the level of the wings but they won cups being small down the middle but big on the wing with a good D-core.......personally that's how I would build this team as well because to land a big center will mean giving up on quite a bit of prospects.

  5. I agree and dont think Hurberdeau will be that great a NHLer, and possibly be a Benoit Pouliot. Not sure why but even last year i wouldnt of picked him in top 10. He does look good vs juniors but just not sold, Couturier i would trade the #3 pick for in a second.

But Habs aint trading that pick, so just hope Galchenyuk is available at 3.

I disagree. I've only see Huberdeau 3 times in person but he is not at all like Pouliot. Pouliot was a good skater with a good shot who did not work hard, played alot on the perimter. Huberdeau is a work horse. He likes to get dirty and hustles like mad.

  6. With those losses they should forfeit 29th overall because their next natural picks could be a lot higher

The risk here is greater than the reward, a really low draft pick who wont likely make any NHL impact for those next two years anyway

That was my thinking as well but Lamoriello is not a traditional GM. You'd think that the 29th pick would be the easiest to give up. Maybe he sees a GEM that he can nab

  7. Only issue with that is they don't get a choice of which first rounder to forfeit. They have to forfeit their own "natural" pick. Much like a RFA offer sheet.

I know, just saying they will likely forfeit their pick somewhere down the road when they pull a move to acquire someone else's pick. They are kind of at a cross roads because they are losing their best player, their franchise goalie is retiring soon....they need to re-stock soon.

  8. I went home last night and decided to add Latendresse to my 2012-13 squad of NHL12. You should know that I had already added PA Parenteau as well because I really think that he is going to be a target for MB.

With that said......if we can somehow get both Latendresse and Parenteau under contract then I think that we will be more than fine with our current list of diminutive centers.

Hypothetically: Pacioretty, Cole, Latendresse, Parenteau, Eller, Bourque are all top 9 forwards and all 6'2 or bigger.

Personally I think Bourque would be shopped around but for arguments sake let's just think of something like:

    Parenteau-Plekanec-Gionta

    Pacioretty-Desharnais-Cole

    Bourque-Eller-Latendresse

  9. On the language issue... the fact is.

Lefebvre and Lapointe are qualified candidates for the jobs they have been given. They have done solid jobs in other organizations, and are getting an opportunity to advance to the next stage of their careers.

Brisebois is getting a low-level, entry position. Given his career spanning over 1000 games, I think he's worthy of a chance in it. Its not like they are giving him a big job, they are merely giving him an opportunity to prove himself in coaching and/or management. Everyone has to start somewhere.

How can you (rhetorical) argue against anything Bergevin has done to date. Let's just hope that these off ice moves results in a better on ice result and development of prospects.

  10. I'm not that surprised given the uncertainty over Parise and with next year probably being Brodeur's last year, they probably want to start reloading. They lucked out with Larsson dropping, maybe the are hoping Subban will drop enough for them.

My guess is that they keep the pick with plans of somewhere down the road parting with a player in exchange for a 1st rounder. Essentially nsure a 1st rounder every year.

  11. So is this what elation feels like?!!? it's been sooo long :hyper:

I echo that sentiment. No longer do we have a one man show. Bergevin will be as good as the team he's putting around him in the front office to the bench. Next up......let's see what kind of players and team we'll have.

Driving in this morning and I could not help but think he's going to heavily target PA Parenteau

  12. It looks like Latendresse, who claims his concussion issues are behind him, will not be qualified by Minnesota. Think he'd be an interesting UFA for habs to look at? He could probably be had for cheap, and would be a good for on the 2nd or 3rd line, perhaps with Eller and Moen.

If that's the case then by all means yes. The guy can score and can hit hard when relied upon. Definitely worth the gamble.

  13. Here's the thing though....

    - Mellanby was broken by Bob McKenzie saying he was coming to Montreal almost immediately on hearing the news he quit in St. Louis.

    - Dudley came from Dreger (and we all know he has sources in the leaf organization, aka Nonis).

But this Hartley thing isn't coming from TSN, so I don't buy this rumor with the same validity.

Normally TSN will only report something when it borders on definite. So like you said.....let's wait until DD or McKenzie say something

  14. In most cases, it's all a bit of a crap shoot. Hell, even proven NHLers provoke uncertainty and massive errors in terms of assessment. Look at all the fans who were so sure that Marian Hossa and Ilya Kovalchuk are 'playoff busts' the Habs were better off without  Anyway, we're best off not getting too wedded to our predictions about prospects. Even the most perspicuous of us, like Commandant, see through a glass darkly when it comes to this stuff.

I am just waiting for Mike Busto to break out as the steal of that Gomez trade

  15. As I've said before only 1 team (17 vs 14) Philly has made more draft choices from the Q in the last 9 years (since Timmins was hired) than Montreal.

Plus there is Leblanc who wasn't from the Q, and nearly 1 Q free agent signed every year (examples Masse, Desharnais, Delmas, Dame-Malka, Lefebvre).

No one is bringing in more Q talent than the Habs.

Seaking of undrafted players we've signed, I wonder if we'll approach Zlobin? He's not big but the kid can outright score.

  16. The only negative thing I have read on Gaunce is that his skating is not great, and scouts had wanted to see a bit more offence from him this year, thus some are projecting him as a 3rd liner with 2nd line potential, which is still not terrible, but not what you'd expect from your first round pick.

Wasn't the same said about Corey Perry. I remember many projecting he would not b much more than a 4th line player because of his horrific skating.

  17. Whenever a move like this is announced my mind immediately turns to, as a result of this move what player(s) will come to Montreal.

I have a feeling the team is going to be quite active in removing some of the softer players and replacing them perhaps with some bigger bodies, specifically guys from the West.

I would not be surprised to see Mellanby get involved in luring a guy like Barrett Jackman and possibly Scott Nichol to the team.

  18. I would be very shocked to see Samuelsson as a third round pick. Gaunce I've seen a lot of and I have a feeling he'll be a better NHL player than people are projecting him. Felt the same about Skinner and Henrique (Commandant can vouch if he remembers).

Gaunce is a kid I have liked from what I have heard (not seen). Looks like he'll go mid 1st round however so that is just not going to happen.
