I totally agree, but it would be better than losing him for nothing...Besides, most of the top teams in the league already have solid goal tending or near the cap...
Is he worth 8M+ in cap space and 4 1st round picks?
-
I expect the Habs to match any offer sheet that Price signs unless it is for 8M+..
Even if he takes the 8M+ offer, we are still handsomely rewarded with a bevy of 1st rounders...
This table explains compensatory picks for 2011:
$1,034,249 or below: No compensation
$1,034,249 -- $1,567,043: Third-round pick
$1,567,043 -- $3,134,055: Second-round pick
$3,134,088 -- $4,701,131: First and third-round pick
$4,701,131 -- $6,268,175: First, second and third-round pick
$6,268,175 -- $7,835,219: Two first-round picks, a second and third
$7,835,219 and higher: Four first-round picks
I wouldn't worry too much about losing Price this off season...

He has built a pretty good Junior team in Quebec...I understand it may not mean much when thrown into the Montreal cooker, but he has excelled as a player with the weight of the city on his shoulders...
We need the fire to win at all costs instilled into this team's system..I say go for it and get "The King" in here, ASAP..
Something has to be done..We have been treading water for too many years with a serious cup drought...
-
NBC Sports is reporting Roy as GM and Hartley as next coach...
-
I wouldn't be worrying about the Leafs getting a lottery pick...Burke will eventually trade it to save his job, anyway....
-
What if this season... we are the Leafs?
Naw, I wouldn't worry too much about it..We have pretty good young talent in every position and we also have a stud in net..Just a circus of a year and injuries played a big role...
I expect us to be in the show next season..Similar to Philly's bad season a couple of seasons ago when they picked JVR 2nd overall..
-
Torontos fallen far enough now they will go on a run up the standings like always
Not with the schedule they have..
-
Markov had a less than stellar night..He got "dipsy-doodled" by Ennis and looked pretty weak on the OT winner..Hope its just rust and not his knee limiting his mobility to position himself defensively..
-
Yea, Rene Bourque is a big disappointment..I expected a lot more out of this guy..
-
I don't know about anybody else, but I thought that tying goal with seconds left was exciting. And it's evident by the reaction of the players when they scored that they don't give a crap about this whole tanking mentality that most fans have.
Edit: I didn't mean to quote Demon
Yea, I was jumping like it was a big goal in the playoffs, myself..As much as I want a lottery pick, I can't help getting excited when watching..

Bob McKenzie is reporting that Justin Schultz will be going to FA...This kid was drafted in the 2nd round by ANA and he is saying ANA won't be able to sign him..
The kid has skill, is young, and could really be a great add to our pool of young d-man coming through the system...

We didn't deserve a point in that game let alone a win..lol
1 point closer to the Leafs and 1 point closer to my 5 cases of beer I have on the line..lol

I think it goes without saying that with Markov back, we're a better team in every way. However, being a better team in every way still means you're going to lose a few games to bad bounces, a harder working club, or there might still be some injuries in the Canadiens future. Also, the Leafs *ALWAYS* have that end of the season winning stretch to give their fans hope. It always happens. It'll likely happen again. As for Columbus and Edmonton, those teams are not going to do anything other than stay where they are.
The worst I see Montreal moving up to is 27th, and even then, I still see Montreal picking either Galy or Grig.
I doubt it with their remaining schedule...Pretty tough one to round out the year..

If Markov says healthy and is paired with Emelin, Emelin will become an all star...

Did you not read my last post?

He was the victim of a cheap shot here, there is nothing more to it than that. It says nothing about his size or ability. That was a cheap hit.
My feelings towards him were the same before this cheap hit..
-
but yakupv who is 5'11 190 at the age of 18 is too small for the NHL?
lol, yes, he is, but Parise has proven he can play the NHL game..Yakupov, as good as he is, is just a prospect..Do you want to take a risk on a smaller player in the lottery position? Nail hasn't proven that he can play in the bigs, just yet..
I never said the kid doesn't have the talent, just mean I wouldn't pick him 1st overall..
-
Listen, I just think this Yakupov kid is getting injured way too much before he even makes the NHL..This is his 2nd injury this season alone..I agree, the kid has exceptional talent, but I just feel he would be a great risk if he is chosen in the lottery position for any team..
Of course, its just my humble opinion..

If we go wing, Forsberg is the guy we take, IMO...
This draft is uncharted waters for me...lol
I'm lost...I really don't want to screw up this chance at picking up a franchise type of player...I hope we go 2 for 2 (Price)
I still wonder if DD can fill that void at wing.
DD - Pleks - Cole
Patches - Rookie - Gionta
Bourque - Eller - Leblanc
Although it does look better like this
Parise/Doan - Pleks - Gio
Patches - Rookie - Cole
Bourque - Eller - DD
I love the size on our wings..I would leave DD at Center..Parise is under 6', but weighs 200 lbs. so his height is moot...Talk about a pipe dream though..lol

I agree, man. A healthy and productive Markov (two huge 'ifs') really does change everything. Suddenly Kaberle becomes outstanding third-pairing offensive depth instead of everyone's favourite whipping boy, and suddenly Subban stops being tasked with carrying the team by himself. We'd really be able to roll three offensively defensive dangerous pairings like that. Add Emelin and Gorges, and if you add one solid defensive defenceman, presto, we've got a damned nice blueline. Watch the Ws start to inflate thereafter.
nickm is right. But I think that even if Markov is 100%, we'll still need to add at least one major player up front - preferably a LW. Given Gionta's advancing age and disastrous health this season, we might need two top-6 forwards to really be strong - a tall order for sure, and I'll settle for one top-3 winger myself. Say what you want about Cammalleri, but he leaves a significant void in terms of high end talent on this roster.
Zach Parise, anyone?
-
Those players got their injuries because of their styles of play...Not because of their lack of size..
If Yakupov is having injury problems in junior because of hits, he won't have a very long career in the NHL..Sorry..
-
Which is what I have been saying all along...The size issue with this kid can't be over looked..Sure he oozes elite talent, but is CLB going to overlook his lack of size and pick the larger forward? Personally, I would pick Galchenyuk or Grigorenko simply because of this reason..They may be built better for the NHL game..
Besides, if we can keep playing hockey like we played tonight, we won't be getting a sniff of those players, anyway..lol
-
Just for the record, I would take Galchenyuk over Grigorenko..Just throwing that out there...lol

Habs shut Carey down for the last 3 games

If this is a lingering issue, it would set us back 5 years in team development..We would be lost without a healthy Price..We would go to a strength to a weakness in a nano second...It would cause a major ripple throughout the entire franchise because center wouldn't be the only glaring hole in this team...
If this is a Crosby type of deal, we will be picking in the lottery again next year, easily..
This was the right call and I hope it isn't too serious..
