  1. But how many years away is he?

Scouts say he is the most NHL ready D-man available in this year's draft...But I would expect EDM to pick him before we have the chance...

Just for the record, this was Geoffrion's tweet:

"Thanks for all the support habs fans....going to let it be a surprise on which number I'm going to wear....but it's one of these...55,57,75."

  2. our D has plenty more in the pipeline than we have at wing. centre is biggest need though.

Tinordi and Beaulieu will be joining Habs around the same time Murray develops just look at Hedman and Larssen.Hedman is only now in his 3rd year a top 4d.

Ryan Murray is the better prospect..The kid's skill is off the charts..We need another blue chipper in the D dept. to go with PK..Tinordi and Beaulieu will be solid top 4s, but Murray is a future number 1...

  3. With Nash staying in CBJ, Nuge returning to Deadmonton, and Kostitsyn traded, we may get Nail after all!

To tell you the truth, a center or Ryan Murray would be the better fit for us...Yakupov is good, but we have more glaring needs then on the wing..

    Our D is horrible..

  4. Maybe coulda had the third, but the first was a beauty tip by parise, and the second was also a deflection off clarkson's knee. Those two were unstoppable, deflected far too close to the net to react to.

I never said they were weak goals, maybe the last one, but those goals were let in at bad times in the game...He was on his knees on all 3 and deep in the net...We really need to think about getting him a viable back up to stagger more of his starts..

I knew he didn't look sharp when Parise almost scored from corner..That save he made while he was facing the goal judge was another example...I am not saying he cost us the game, but by letting in those goals at bad times of the game really took the wind out of our sails..

But, we still have to learn to play more than 20 minutes...Just an overall lazy/lack of hustle, IMO...Too many times we were watching the play instead of forcing the play in their zone...Our PP was simply throwing the puck around the periphery..

  5. We have to play more than 20 minutes to win..Especially against a tough checking team like NJ..Price let in 3 back breakers..1 late in the 1st, 1 late in the 2nd, and a weak shot from the point...

Before I get lambasted for calling out Price on these goals, I just wanna say that he has to learn to fight through traffic to make the save..Positioning is great and all, but he looked really shaky..

On another thought, the guys need to shoot the puck when in prime scoring areas..Too many times they passed it off to a shooter that has a lesser angle..

  6. "Boomer" was demoted after being traded...He is now in the Hammer with Slaney..

All three are two way players, just young two way players.

I think I'd like to see Montreal try Louis Leblanc as a fourth line center between Geoffrion and White.

What a waste of talent...You are basically handcuffing LL to mature as a player he is meant to be...Give the kid some players that have offensive skill...If he plays 4th line minutes, then send him to the Hammer..

  7. @lafrous10

A cynic is born every day...

Although it may seem like a lot, that is the premium one has to pay for a goal scoring center. And unfortunately, the Habs are in need of one of those. Relying on the draft is is a gamble, and usually doesn't yield results for a few years if it works out at all. With our 1st pick this year, ideally it would be for a potentially impact center. I have no problem trading that chance and a second round chance for a guy who is entering his prime and is locked up long term at a reasonable cap hit. Sure 10 years is a long time but who knows what will happen by then with CBA negotiations, cap inflation or the player himself. I believe this team needs an acquisition of a Carter-type player, the return of Markov and the supplementation of key prospects that are already in the system, to be a contender as soon as next year.

Trading for Jeff Carter is as big a gamble as any draft pick..He is injury prone and has done nothing this year to warrant anything to that kind of bounty...If that is the asking price for him, then PG better step away...

  8. I would have been glad with the 2nd round pick alone. Getting Geoffrion and Slaney is a big surprise. We gave them a 5th round draft pick, but, all in all, Gauthier has done a good job.

Conditional 5th rounder..We give up the pick ONLY if Geoffrion plays at least 40 games next season..

  9. http://dansallows.com/player-profile-mikhail-grigorenko/

Having a realistic chance of grabbing this kid has me excited..PG better not trade our pick..

Grigorenko is being compared to Joe Thornton, but I think he has more upside and I compare him to more of a Malkin because of his goal scoring ability..

I was thinking earlier that we would be picking closer to the 6th-12th position, but now, after seeing what this team has on the ice over the last 2 games, a top 3 pick is very realistic..

    STINKO FOR GRIGORENKO!!!

  10. Stock nailed it...We got bigger on paper, but they are playing like a bunch of pussies..I think they have given up on the year, personally..Can't blame them, really...Management gave up as soon as Molson said Gauthier and Gainey were going nowhere...

This team needs another overhaul..I am afraid that whomever comes in to manage this team is going to deal our potential lottery pick to CLB for Carter...Carter has been rumoured to go to 2 teams..LA and MTL..Please no..His foot has been giving him problems and that contract goes until the end of 2022, but hey, we traded for "Stone hands" Gomez...

  11. Almost 22 years old still not in NHL

I do not know much about him care to elaborate?

Had some offensive upside during his years in the Q, but his offense never really matured when he progressed to the pro level (AHL)...He now is a defensive style d-man that has good size (6'2" 215lbs. or so) that has a mean streak and is tough to play against...Think a French Komi, but more offensive potential..More of a project type of prospect that could pan out to be a Josh Gorges in the future..Home town boy..

  12. What team would be giving up an "elite" player for a 7m/year, small/soft, winger that can't stay healthy that has character issues?

Face it, Cammy's writing was on the wall..He wanted out and the sooner the better..IMO, Gauthier's hands were tied and he got the best deal available..He wanted to get bigger and grittier up front all the while not losing Cammy' production..You don't get it.."Elite" players aren't traded anymore..They are drafted and locked up long term...

We got more than market value for Cammy..

  13. "Habs roll the dice but get a character player who can play in all situations and score"

Like I've been saying. We are unlikely to get a 'difference maker' in the draft. Good player, sure. Franchise player? No. Nobody should get too terribly excited.

Incidentally: Blonde Demon, your avatar kicks ass

LOL..Thanks..He was one of my all time favorites..Next to Robinson, of course.. ;)
