Helenius is number 2 in my rankings.
Which have started to be posted by the way.
We have 6 up.
What are you seeing in Helenius that puts him at 2?
Most draft lists have him outside the top 5

SLAFKOVSKY!

Konsta Helenius now has the 4th best season ever for a 17 year old.

Who are the three who did better?

Anyway, it won’t happen if Drury is too busy acting like a princess.
What happened between these two?

If he leaves in the near future, i could see him playing with MacKinnon in Colorado.
I doubt he leaves though
They are good friends and the Avs are legitimate contenders, I could see it.

If the Pens miss the playoffs this season, or get killed in the first round, things get very awkward for Dubas in Pittsburgh.
Entering this season their roster was already the oldest by average age (by over a year!) ... they have 13 NHLers under contact for 24/25 and $18M of cap space ... but at least half of that will go to re-signing Guentzel (if they even can) ... the other 6 of their top 7 scorers are already over 30 (3 over 35, one w/b 34 next season) ... so not much cap flexibility or logic to start "adding" for next season.
So while I expect Crosby wants to finish his career in Pittsburgh, if they approach him and ask him to help jump-start a rebuild then perhaps he agrees to be traded.
So you think if he hits UFA in the summer of 2025 he's not looking around the league and just resigns in Pittsburgh at a discount?
I think he still the desire and drive to win and may eagerly chase a cup elsewhere.
-
Who thinks Crosby leaves Pittsburgh to chase one more cup before his career is done?
I hope he leaves. He's still such a good player and the Penguins are clearly declining.
Montreal in 2025-26 would be cool as we might be good by then but I would be happy to see him go to any contending team so we can see him in the playoffs.

Based on where the Habs are now and not counting on any lotter luck, Eiserman and Lindstrom will likely be gone but Catton or Helenius still sound good.
Looking at the history of drafts, I know there are busts in the top 10 but there are also really good players found in the 10-20 range.
Maybe an outlier, but pasternak was taken at 25

Catton, Lindstrom, Eiserman, Iginla, Helenius or Other?
I'm assuming we'll be picking 4-9 range

The thing with Drouin is, if you’re depressive and have mental health issues and can’t stand high pressure situations, then don’t ratchet up the pressure by publicly demanding to be traded because your team sent you temporarily to the minors. Anyway, he’s out of our hair now.
I don’t know what the heck PLD’s problem is either. He is obviously capable of being a big, strong, 65-70 point C. Maturity seems to be an issue; offhand I can’t think of another player under 25 who put two teams in the situation where they had to trade him because he wanted out.
Nevertheless…I have a feeling, though, that in a couple of years we’ll be hearing about how important he is to LA, that he’s “matured” and “grown comfortable” with where he is, he’s playing a great game, blah blah blah. The guy we’re seeing on the ice right now is NOT the guy he has been in his young career.
In other words, IF I’m a GM (like Hughes) who has carefully scouted PLD and IF there are no rumours about substance abuse or other such issues, I might be sniffing around to see if he can be acquired on the cheap, with salary going back. 🤷♂️ But I’d only be doing it out of concern that injury-prone Dach may not work out.
I think we've seen enough, on ice and off. He is supposed to be in his prime right NOW.
Bullet dodged. Maybe Hughes knew all along.
I wonder how much of an influence Bergevin had on bringing him to LA?
-
Yes, absolutely. No one expected this team to contend for the playoffs and that was assuming Dach and Newhook were going to play the majority the games.
Good news is they're going to pick up another good player at he draft this year
-
Something that may show that the Habs have over achieved a little based on their record this season.
They have the worst goal differential in the Eastern conference and only the sharks, Blackhawks and ducks are worse in the whole league.
-
Hope slafkovsky is okay.
Wouldn't surprise me if he sustained a concussion on the hit, he stayed down for a while.
I think I can say I've seen enough of Barron. He definitely has some solid offensive skills but the defensive gaffes are too much for me.
-
If anyone has any doubts about MSL, watch this video.
I considered myself to have a decent understanding of the game but after watching this, my knowledge is clearly very surface level compared to a man like this.
Considering everything we know about him, it makes sense that he has spent a lot of time in his life contemplating the game.

Slav has been looking better and better each game for a while
What's really impressed me is the defensive side of the game that he's shown. Often right place right time in our own end.
Just want to see him be more selfish and shoot more.

Is the St. Louis honeymoon over yet?
I don't think the coaching staff is the problem.
There are of course other issues with the roster, but the loss of Dach really impacts the roster. With him healthy the jobs of Suzuki, caufield, Monahan, Newhook and Slafkovsky would all be easier as he makes those around him better and it's harder for opposing teams to key in on Suzuki defensively.
I'm sure we're missing the small things Savard does as well.

Kent is in even better shape than Bergy

Even the players are demoralized by Dachs injury.

Third line seems like a waste of Monahan to me because I’m expecting 0 from Pearson or Gallagher.
Second line looks really interesting
Hopefully Anderson pumells the leafs in every category
Call me a foolish optimist but I still think Gallagher has something left in the tank, even if he doesn't reach 30 goals again. The body may be banged up but you don't loose the compete. Also he was playing with Danault when he was doing really well so I think it will help him to have a good center to play with. I was also seeing positive things Pearson in the preseason. He was in the right places at the right times and making smart decisions with the puck.
-
Looking forward to hopefully seeing progress and good signs from Slaf, Newhook, Dach and Guhle
Should be a fun game
-
Not sure if this is right thread, but saw from The Hockey Guy that Michkov is already a healthy scratch at SKA for whatever that's worth.
-
I'm pretty sure Reinbacker has stated multiple times that he wants to play in Kloten this upcoming year and finish his schooling.
-
If Newhook stays healthy this season, I'm expecting him to break the 40 point mark.
He's young, so I expect him to keep improving and I expect he'll get more opportunities in Montreal than he did in Colorado. Based on the highlight packages I've seen he's a skilled guy with good compete. 50 points is definitely not out of the question.

I don't want Michkov. Not a comment on his skill but I fear that it will be thought getting him to North America. Assuming Smith and Karlsson ect. are gone who else is looking promising? Who's the guy people want other than Michkov?
2024 NHL Entry Draft

Aho sounds great, obviously everyone would love to have that kind of player on the team. I would hope that the #2 player in the draft will be producing a little more than 60-70 points but it's still good if the defense is there.
Do you see him as more of a center or winger in the NHL?
Should we expect him to be playing in the NHL for the start of the 25-26 season regardless of who takes him?
What are other people missing who have him around the 8 spot?
