  1. ok, although he does it manually, here is what the guy had to say :

I use the game-generated draft as a starting point, and then modify it.

First I rank all the draftees in excel, using the qbasic utility I sent you a few years ago, and some excel formulae that are proprietary only to me smile.gif

I usually maintain the flavor of the game-generated draft, that is if the game generates a really crappy draft, the final product will also be below average. I usually don't touch the top 15 or so players in my list.

Further down the list I start bumping up con or pot, or both, and touch up the ceilings. The intent is to make the draft more interesting, diverse and higher quality. I like to throw in some wildcard players. A lot of players with < 30 con get bumped up. Sometimes this upgrade pushes them into the new top 15, but so be it.

Usually the game generated drafts are devoid of NHL quality players by the mid-2nd round, I try to stretch that out to the end of the 3rd round, or at least the top 90 players on my sorted list. I compare the current draft (according to my formula) with previous years drafts (which I also modified) to make sure they're in the same ballpark.

I convert some of the goalies into forwards or defensemen, since they're useless as goalies and our league has more than enough of them.

I also modify the birthdates for players that are "too young". The game generates players with birthdates from January to December of the current year minus 18; in the case of September to December means you'd be drafting 17 year olds, which is unrealistic, and would potentially make them unusuable for 3 seasons after the draft since they can't start in the minors. So I roll them back one birth year to make them 18 going on 19 after the draft.

The last touch is cosmetic, altering the names and countries to be consistent with real-life names. I scour the previous years NHL draft, upcoming draft CSB rankings, OHL, WHL, QMJHL drafts, CHL import draft and international U18 tournaments to get the names on target.

I make all these changes in excel first, then after I'm done and satisfied, apply them to the players.ehm file, manually. I've done it enough that I know which numbers correspond to which values.

It might sound like a lot of work, but of the 180 names generated by the game, probably only 90 or so are edited beyond their name. It takes a couple of hours. And I frequently save my changes and reload the game, to make sure I havent' introduced an extra blank line or something that kills the game.

  2. ok gotcha

that's not called making the draft then. that's called adjusting the draft.

I'll ask my buddies in 1.16 what they do.

cause yes, it probably sucks as is.

long story short : the game auto adjust

i.e. the stronger our actual roster pack is, the weaker the draft are autogenerated.

therefore you can forget about any autogenerated goalie for the next 100 years. ;)

  3. i suck, not happy with results.

my best player so far this season, VERBEEK (14 pts in 14 games), is therefore testing the market.

    suggestions / offers are welcomed.

i wont be thinning down. only differents assets can be accepted. no 2-1.

  4. No rivalry here. I sign my players by a deadline, I don't go over the salary cap and I DO NOT ever trade Calvin Johnson for two mid range players. revvvrob and I are rival in everything we compete against eachother in. THAT'S a rivalry, and a fun one at that. :halm:

where is he? you heard of him?

    p.s. he's better than you.

  5. wow, that'd be amazing.

komi isn't bad, he's just playing bad. big difference.

Komi is just like Quintal at the beginning of his career. he got ahead of himself thinking he could be a superstar. he's starting to realise he has to keep it simple. when that will be done, he'll be back on track fo' sur'.

Current rumour going around is Gomez for Lombardi and Komisarek.

Habs would do it, but I don't see why Toronto would want to.
