  1. Darn, slow starters again. Let's get out of the 1st tied or adjust soon!

Sorry to quote myself. But this is a good situation.

How many times have we had to come back? Even with many of our wins?

    They always start slow.

2nd period. Build on it. Gainey, Carbonneau and the good speech!

    Go get 'em! :hlogo:

  2. I've been to HTR, Ek and Spectors today. Trying to get a read on who we will pursue.

    Arnason

    Gelinas

    Todd White

    Daigle

    Selanne.

P.S. The need for a 20 minute blueliner couldn't have worse timing. With the Canucks in trouble and many other teams looking to get defensive depth...well, oh boy.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Gainey made only a sideways or tweak trade.

Is it worth our bluechips to bring in a rental we won't be able to retain?

If Gainey pulls a rabbit out of the hat in the next 11 days I'll be so :D

  3. I would love to get Selanne or Lehtinen. But how?

So, let's examine who is movable and who isn't.

IMO: Touchable: Locke, Dagenais, Ribeiro, Bulis, Sundstrom, Zednik, Grabovsky, Aubin & D'Agostini - also 2006 or 2007 picks. (If Bob mentioned half of these names on the phone with Burke, he'd probably ask Bob where he gets his bomb weed)

UnTouchable: Koivu, Kovalev, Ryder, Plekanec, Higgins, Perezhogin, Bégin, A. & S. Kostitsyn, Latendresse, Chipchura & Price.

No tradable worth: Bonk, Downey & Murray.

The problem is all the touchable players have about as much worth as a pylon right now except for Bulis who I would hate to see go.

Anyway, I'm at a loss to see how we can get Selanne. Brian Burke isn't going to want Locke, Dagenais, Ribeiro, Bulis, Sundstrom or Zednik only. So, what do you if you were Gainey?

The only solution will hurt. That is, pick a "touchable" to get the return desired.

Is it worth it? I don't think so. Why make a sideways move for a potential UFA to make a playoff run that will get us...well, no cup?

So, it'd better turn out to be another Kovalev scenario. We MUST be able to lock up a "Selanne" or a "Lehtinen" long term - IMO

    So, let's keep DREAMING.

    Maybe Gainey will surprise us.

  4. A few (sometimes rude but meant in good fun) anagrams for Habs players' names:

Sheldon Souray: Hooray Dulness ; Dash Onerously

    Jose Theodore: Jet Shoe Rodeo

Mike Ribeiro: I Reek Bio Rim

    Mathieu Dandenault: Handmade Alien Tutu

    Try it yourself: http://www.wordsmith.org/anagram/advanced.html

Cool, too bad I'm not in the mood. Hurts liking Hockey and being a Canadian. On Tuesday I can be a Canadien again. Which is far better than watching Quinn "Chomping Chewing Gum", and being a Canadian.

I think I'll call him that from now on since it's the only thing he's good at. - "Chomping Chewing Gum".

  5. Enough of this nonsense.

    1) The 2004 playoff seizure? :wall:

    2) Fighting with Koivu in practice - Regular season 2004?

    3) The "Ryder finished more of Ribeiro's good passes" garbage? :puke:

    4) His not glorieux performance? <_<

This guy is so unprofessional. Why is he trying to destroy the team?

I guarantee that Gainey is furious. He has to be. Ribeiro is a locker room nightmare. It's just getting to be too much.

  6. Lehtinen would be awesome. Never forget he is a former Selke winner. He makes $3,572,000.00. That's this years' numbers. Not sure about his contract status. He is also in Dallas. I wonder if Gainey has anymore UOI's left from that club ( )

2002-03 NHL - Frank J. Selke Trophy (Best Defensive Forward)

1998-99 NHL - Frank J. Selke Trophy (Best Defensive Forward)

1997-98 NHL - Frank J. Selke Trophy (Best Defensive Forward)

Selanne is getting 1 million which makes him attainable IMO.

  7. Steroids do not build muscles. Steroids repair muscle tissue. Working out breaks down muscle tissue and when the muscle rebuilds, it rebuilds larger than before.

    Steroids speed up the process.

There are alot of atheletes caught using steroids and most of them are not super muscular. Swimmers, runners etc.....they need speed not muscles.

This is a debate with different opinions.

True true true. I think Theodore was on roids but that's what I think.

  8. Maybe he's taking lessons from Byron Dafoe who in 2004 slipped on a sheet of ice and pulled his back which killed the Leaf rumours.

    :P

Conspiracy? I highly doubt that. Most of my local hockey pals have given me the, "are you on glue" look when I mentioned the possibility, for which I am now distancing myself from LOL

  9. See you took off the other 2 related new topics including mine. Cool. Sorry 'bout that but I guess 3 users hit their keyborads all at the same time LOL :P

    On to this situation...

IMO: Ah, whatever. This allows him to take more time off and go into hibernation. He needs a holiday anyway. What else will work?

This injury puts him on course for a playoff return. Maybe there is some magic to be had. Of course, we need to make the playoffs first. :hlogo:

Now we will have to rely on Danis as well. But this tandem can get us to the playoffs IMO. Maybe Danis will want to upshow Huet (fine with me) :D

This might be a blessing in disguise. Theodore might very well be more agreeable to GM's with a 2 year tag next summer. Too bad it's a rich UFA crop. But, with goalie pickin's slim in the NHL currently you can expect the remaining names like Cujo, Biron etc to be rented or even signed. So, maybe there will be a demand after all.

And, Gainey may choose to keep him and hope for a 2007 rebound.

Theodore's injury doesn't make all that much difference IMO.

  10. oh common. there were some questionable calls against Switzerland as well. They just said on CBC that the video ref only had 3 angles to work with which is unbelievable.. but gerber makes a huge save and you never see the puck in the net. the puck probably had crossed the line but canada shouldn't need such a goal to beat a team full of players who are too 'soft' for the NHL.

An upset is always a great thing for a tournament. and it's great to see that team work payes off. I hope the habs watched this game and see that a small but fast skating team can beat big strong teams if they work hard together. GO SWISS, GO HABS

IMO - The puck must cross the goal line. The puck, the WHOLE puck and nothing but the puck. If the puck was nestled at the end of Gerber's trapper, it's still possible that it was not "entirely over" the line. If that's the case then it falls to "inconclusive" which means NO GOAL.

If Canada wanted a goal beyond this question they shouldn't have played a garbage game like that.

And they should have gotten the goals.

Canada wasn't ripped off. They just played terrible.

By the way. I didn't say it in this forum yet but why the Czech's didn't take Pleks is beyond me. Everyone talks of experience internationally. That's funny because of all the games I've watched this Olympics I've noticed a trend...that is, it's hockey.

Last time I czeched Pleks plays hockey and he's darned good at it!

  11. More Habs In Turin made history in Torino today. Mark Streit & former habs Paul DiPietro cruised to a 2-0 win over Canada IMO.

    Did I say "cruised"?

Yes I did. Canada didn't really gain the slot. Their point shots were irrelevant. Point passing was irresponsible. They lost the one on one battles. Backdoor and trick plays were intercepted by the Swiss. The Swiss pokechecked Canada in both zones. Forty shots sounds like alot but most of them were not dangerous and Gerber saw them. As for the waived goals? The way Canada played, it's not an excuse.

Paul DiPietro scores 2. Streit played a strong game.

    3 Stars

    Gerber 0/40 shots.

    DiPietro 2 Goals

Rick Nash - the best of the...Canada played awful. :(

  12. selanne is a short term solution. I believe he is a great one but still short term.

we need that big, right handed center we all talk aboot (yes aboot, I'm feeling extra Canadian today).

We have long term skilled forwards coming out of our ass.

Yeah, I know I've been going on about Selanne. But IMO, Montreal is moving in the proper direction. But this is not a projected cup year for them. Of course, you always still try to win the cup...but, the reality is we are not there yet.

I'll be the first one to step up and smile if we get "that big, right handed center" you are referring to. But, he'd obviously have to be a high calibre player and the pickins are slim.

I guess my true wishes are to get a player of a Selanne calibre type player. That level, so to speak.

It'll be interesting to see who Gainey gets for the defence too.

  13. All those guys you mention all play for a Habs team that is near the bottom in goals for. Selanne, like Ryder, actually does score and is still pretty good at it....he's also well respected around the league, which adds another inch or two to his height....he'd also love it in Quebec, not only because he'd be playing with his fellow Finn Koivu, but also because he'll have less of a chance of getting a speeding ticket when he's racing around in one of his sports cars.........but seriously, I do agree that one of the things we need right now is a gritty Ryan Smyth-kind of player who will park himself in front of the net during PPs and be willing to take a beating.....I remember how he drove Giguere crazy (literally!) a couple of weeks ago....Ottawa uses Neil & Chara to do the same...maybe we can clone Begin so he could he could play both PK and PP.

    Right on SoCalHab

Anyone remember Nagano, Salt Lake...Now? Koivu and Selanne can read each others' minds. We've seen it before. The Rangers have Rucinsky and Jagr. They burned Canada in last years World Championship and how bout them Rangers? Sykora?

Selanne at the right price - is nice!

  14. Ovechkin is unacquirable even given the names mentioned IMO. Koivu, Latendresse, Locke, Zednik & Higgins wouldn't get him. Washington knows you build around Ovechkin. If I were McPhee I wouldn't do this trade.

I only say Selanne because he's probably easier to acquire at less cost to us than others. Of course, there has been the occasional Chicago rumour. Chicago is lost and Anaheim is on the cusp as we are right now. Anaheim will have to come out of the break with a flat tire if there is to be any Selanne hope.

The question is what Burke would want in the return?

    Or is it Tallon?

Will it be Chicago? Anaheim? Jokinen? Under the radar Gainey?

    I'm so confused.

    We'll find out soon. :P

    Gainey will deliver :hlogo:

    We'll all be happy :hlogo:

  15. Streit is a good player. I'm glad the Habs have him. After all, we've all seen that one timer slap shot. The way the stick bends, that's awesome. Time and time again over the season I've been waiting for those one timers to go in. With a shot like that, it's only a matter of time.

I wish Streit would hit the target more.

But maybe, just maybe Streit finds his game because of the Olympics.

P.S. Komisarek bashers, give it a rest. When Gainey & Carbonneau stepped in Green was fired. The result has been a major improvement for #8

    Habs :hlogo:
