I like Komi, I just wish he'd back up those little rabbit punches and shoves in front of the net. Too many times last year opponents wanted to dance with Komi, but he'd just stand there and shove or do nothing.

The problem with Denis, is that if we do end up needing him, he has to pass through waivers on the way up. So he's pretty much gone for the big club the entire season.

I loved the way Chips went down the ice killing off the penalty, shooting, getting his rebound and dumping it back to chew up some more time.

If I was looking at the big picture I'd suggest the Pittsburg strat...of trading all players for draft picks sucking for 5-7 years and load up on first rounders.
I'm sorry if I don't rate the prospects as highly as you do. Its easy to bank on prospects, because if they don't work out, theres tons of reasons to say why they didn't succeed.
You're free to look at the big picture as you call it, if you keep looking at the big picture you'll never see whats right in front of you.
In all honestly people are bashing Ryder, and I stand up for him that means I'm shooting people down? Sounds kind of double standardish.

My comment about Ryder being the worst 30 goal scorer was directed to Habs In The Blood.
I just can't see why everyone is so optimistic about the youth of the team. You wanna dump a proven scorer, for someone....who "I'm really sure he can score goals with that much ice time", thats the same as saying "Anyone can score X goals with great players", you don't know that for sure.
I mean this is a discussion board and thats what we're doing, but I'll never buy into any of your arguments. If Ryder is as trashy as you guys think, how do you plan to get your magical #2 D by trading him.
Once again someone brings up the contract...and once again I'll say...do you think he should be playing for peanuts? 30 goal scorer should mean something, yeah Ryder wasn't well defensively...guess what no one was on the team, except save a few. I blame the system as much as I blame the players.

The most useless 30 goal scorer? I'm at a loss for words at some fans...let me check to see how many 30 goal scorers we had last year...oh thats right just one. If our leading scorer is useless whats that mean for the rest of the team? We all know that +/- is a useless stat, we had a wicked PP last year, and so that skewed the +/-, am I only one that sees that? When you do the bulk of your scoring on the power play of course you're going to have a crappy +/-.
Higgins had a soso year last year, does that mean he's reached his peak? Have a little faith people, sometimes we're so harsh on what we have its sickening.
I hope Ryder does get traded to a new team, a team which fans appreciates scoring, cause it seems from a lot of views here, that we just plain don't need scoring, lets just throw Price in the net, fill the lines with rookies, they'll score right? I mean they won the Calder trophy, thats almost the NHL, right?
Sickening.

I know the players are a lot to blame, but I think some of the blame should be shelved upon Carbo, this isn't carte blanche for the players though.
His system of sending one in for a forecheck was really useless and lacking, although near the end of the year when they sent two in the pressure the D into making a quick passw worked better IMO. Also letting the team skate, no one will doubt the habs have some wheels, I feel they were under utililized last year.

I'm going to have disagree with your accessment, I think his improvement each year shows he hasn't reached his peak.
Another thing I wanna bring up:
Three year career in the NHL, 3 different coaches. I can't imagine that was easy on Ryder or any of the habs. I'm just a armchair coach so I don't bring much weight

Everyone says Gainey should do better...please explain how...he backed up a dump truck of money to both Smyth and Briere and they refused to come here. Maybe this should be an eye opening for us fans, if maybe we are the cause of the problems with free agents not wanting to come here.

Ryder just can't win with some people.
Theres a scary view here with some people that your pay should reflect where you were drafted, wtf is up with that? When he was taken in the draft should have NO effect on his contract.

I know this is kind of obvious....BUT when you do the bulk of your scoring on the PP, you're going to have a bad +/-. I think +/- should include PP, right now it's just a useless stat.

I swear....our biggest problem last year was scoring. So everyone wants to make it worse, by removing our top goal scorer. I'm sorry I can't subscribe to this madness!
Everyone talks about "if Ryder had this much effort everynight he'd have X goals". How do you know? I watched most of the games last year and I liked what I saw from Ryder. I think it's SELFISH of management and some people on the board to say
"here take these scraps...we know you're worth more, but...you're a 7th rounder, you should be happy with what you get."
I swear thats the feeling I get from some people, they think he's a piece of trash.

I don't think people understand...we lacked scoring...he was our leading scorer. So lets trade him for more D help? He's hard to sign, because he's not getting what he's due. In a day and age of people getting more than they're worth, some players who want whats fair get coined 'hard to sign'.
I think you're dreaming if you think Sourays PP production will be easily replaced, but thats whats great about this site, is the different views.
Certainly going to be an interesting season!

I am so glad you are not our general manager. You can't wait to see the guy who has led us in goal scoring the last 2 seasons go away, but you all want Kovalev, who has coasted here since he signed the big contract, to get coddled, surrounded by superstars, so he can produce. What is wrong with you people? Where was Kovy that last game against Toronto, with the playoffs on the line? Did you hear Ryder griping and complaining about his linemates, ice time, etc? I really believe that if Ryder was french canadien, everyone would love him. A reliable 30 goal man who comes at a bargain, thats what Ryder is. Nothing more. Is that really so bad?
My thoughts exactly. Everyone wants to toss away who helped the habs do what they did last year. Toss Souray and Ryder...the top scorers on the team. Is it peoples idea that we can go the Sens/Pens route...suck for 10 years, stockpile draft picks then win?
