Jarvis coached the powerplay, which did league the lead 2 years in a row before becoming a middle of the road unit last year (although post-Schneider trade it was dynamite again, until both Markov and Schneider got hurt).
I understand it was Muller, not Jarvis who was running PP.

bpa works for later rounds but in the 1st round if you have a particular need you try to get it.
I'm calling Timmins' bluff. I'm sure he's getting a centerman and when he does he's going to give us the Bpa bs even it was clear he was aiming at a centerman all along.

No one is questioning WHY they were let go, even Lever himself said he totally understands that. Everyone is questioning HOW they were let go, and for a man like BG who hasn't exactly been flush with golden moves lately this comes across as one of the lowest class things he can do in his position.
Piss poor optics for a team that badly needs some good things to happen.
I'm sure it's done mor e often than we think. I still beats the way the colorado avalanche dealt with Granato and many of Avs staff. Heck, Goulet learned it on radio. If you want classless, Lacroix can give you pointers.

(I wouldn't be *too* hard on the pro scouting staff, either. Yeah, the Ribs trade was bad, but Lang, Tanguay and Schneider were good acquisitions...Lang in particular was just what the doctor ordered).
thats the kind of move that get people fired. I also feel that somebody did do its homework on samsonov.
I have to applause Lang and Tanguay though.

Uh, we were in first place and he had an important role in our success. You don't ditch guys before the playoffs. It's like saying the Penguins should have dealt guys like Sykora, Satan, Gill and Fedotenko who are UFA's and may not be brought back next year.
I think gainey's opinion on Streit was that he didn't want him back as a Dman and that streit wouldn't come back if he was a foward.

marky you do make me chuckle. What is Bob supposed to do about the schooling language laws and taxes? Does he also run for premier? Maybe Kenny d could give him some pointers? On politicking that is, he did not do so good with the laffs. So we should just give up and not sign free agents cause they don't want to come here anyways? I would be interested in when you and komi were talking about how he would sign for less in the fall when he was having a real good start to the season. It is after the shoulder injury that he went for shit. I was just pointing out how Gainey has a harder job at obtaining UFAs as there are outside reasins for that.
What can he do you ask ??
-Make sure he retains the player he already has.-start signing contract as early as possible
-try and gain assets for players that we may lose
-make trades that will better the team long term
-give as many draft picks possible to Trevor Timmins as he does a good job.
-Better the pro scouts department. one cannot make another ribs for niinima trade.
as for streit, if the plan wasnt to keep him why not trade him a for a pick ?

well guys let me clarify my comments. 1. I don't believe this team is as bad as last years record shows so I don't think we are looking at a youth movement other than some of the Dogs will be coming up. I dont know who exactly but some will make it. 2. Bob planned to have this many ufa's, it was not an accident, and I can tell you that there are more than a few teams who wish they were in this position. I don't think many of our ufa's will be returning, they are mostly older and on the down side of their careers. Kovalev is probably the only one I think is a lock to come back just cause Bob and he are in love
. Lang maybe and tanguay maybe. Komi probably gone but only because he wants to go. If Bob can sign him he will but as always not for stupid money. Koivu same thing. The rest are pretty easily replaced, yeah I can hear you screaming what about shnide, well he's 40 years old and def on the slide down. If he can be had for cheap ok otherwise send him to burkey, he likes to overpay him. We have the freedom and flexibilty to sign who we want. So as I said let's see what september brings, this is still Bob's plan and he should play it out to the end. I remember how bad this club was before Bob got here and while he is not perfect he is the right guy in the right job at this time. Firing him now would be a major error in my opinnion. If this team regresses or pukes again next year I may have join the dark side with Marki and komi. :ghg: :hlogo:Having that much cap space could be a fortunate situation if other NHLers were ligning up to come here. but with schooling and taxes, even quebec born players aren't whilling to come here.
If komisarek leaves I'm sure it's mostly because Gainey failed to sign him early in the season when he could've happen for lesser money he's going to get. I honestly don't know why he keeps on doing this has the only time he was able to retain a guy was with Markov. he lost souray, streit and now komisarek( well, maybe). what hurts the most was that he lost them for nothing.

Savard stepped aside for Gainey and there are rumours that Savard actually told Boivin to go and get Gainey to replace him. Once Gainey was installed, Savard felt his ideas were no longer being given any weight, and therefore asked to leave.
Savard was asked to step aside by upper management. he was given a 4 year deal but it actually was his last year of contract divided by 4( or something close).
he was given as little power as possible and was pushed aside as soon as Gainey had the chance to do so.
Heck, Gainey's job was supposed to start july 1st 03 but Savard wasn't even allowed to pick his own choice on draft day which was Carter or Getzlaf...not kostitsyn.

I dont think Gainey's thinking of a youth movement. Otherwize he' would've traded assets for draft picks. Besides with the club on the verge of being sold he wasn't allowed to go through a youth movement.
maybe with the new owners he will be allowed if he chooses so. But in late june it's a bit late to tell the world he's going young.
besides, i'm sure h'es still very agressive a aquiring a number one centre who plays in Tampa bay.

A lot will depend on what happens this summer, we could see this change dramatically for the better. We have the opportunity to change the complete outlook of this team. You don't get that happening much any more in the new cap era.
Bob is the one who angled us into this position and we now get to see what he can do. Those of you who want to fire him are being very short sighted, I would wait to see what we have in September before I would throw him under the bus. I hope the new owners, and I am sure they will, allow him complete freedom as he always has had.
so analysing 6 years of him being gm is shortsighted ?? My guess is is if he's there in 5 years from now and he still hasn't anything you'll call us shortsighted !!
Getting rid of André Savard after only 2 full years as Gm is more shortsighted than criticizing one Bob Gainey after 5-6 years.
I don't know how safe his job is but I think it's a bit late for news owners to change the whole thing.
to be honest I'm curious to see How Gainey will manage draft day and free agency... has long as he doesn't pull another Samsonov out of his hat just to for the sake of signing a UFA !!

Consider this though, he has a 1 in 29 chance of getting it right (a player can't be traded to itself). That's a 3.4% odds from guessing blindly, and he comes in slightly below that.
As for the site itself, it's actually being shut down (aside from the message board) after being up for 16 months.
