Don't like it one bit, you got Turcotte and Zegras, 2 great playmakers scattered around while a line of them 2 with Caufield would be wrecking havoc at any given moment. They would both benefit from a high percentage finisher like Caufield, and he would benefit from players able to find him every time he gets lost in the weeds.

U.S coach obviously has a strategy of his own, but I simply don't get it or like it, if you weren't planning on using Caufield as your version of Stamkos, why even bring him a long? Surely someone else would have been better suited to play 13 min with minimal PP time than him.

Exactly, Caufeild need to be played a certain way. He’s an offensive finisher, and a damn good one if used correctly. But he won’t do a whole lot for the team outside that.

I don't understand it, after he scored so many goals in pre tournament, you'd think he'd be on the first PP and top line.

That said he's not been at his best as he was in the 4 goal game either.

Its a short tournament, remember Suzuki kinda sucked in this tourney last year, but it didn't take away from a great season in the OHL, and look where he is now.

Good point. A bad short tourney isn’t the end of the world. But I agree, I figured especially Caufeild would be on that top PP.

Some baffling coaching decisions I think though. I heard an announcer at one point say “that’s the first time I’ve seen turcotte and Caufeild line up together.”

These guys already have chemistry from Wisconsin! It makes no sense not to try them together. Meanwhile zegras had 3 assists and was averaging 3-4 minutes a period. It seems like the coach has “his guys” and Caufeild may not be one. Crossing my fingers for him though

I agree Montreal needs a forward like Anderson.  I like the player and the thought of adding him.

Around the NHL, i bet at least half a dozen teams could use him though and if he was on the market, there would be bidding.

At minimum i think it will cost a 2nd rounder (chicagos that will be a high second) and a lower prospect like cole fonstad or something.

I’m not opposed to a trade like that either! Anderson has some skill (though he hasn’t showed it this year) and a bunch of physicality that I think would fit the habs real well

Why is Columbus selling him on the cheap?

They shouldn’t, but after 4 points in 24 games (and last year on his contract), on a Columbus team that doesn’t look playoff bound, weirder trades have happened.

I just think Montreal could use a forward like Anderson, and perhaps Columbus might like Byron’s speed/contract length.

    Just a suggestion

    For sure

Kotkaniemi looks like he's lost a step this year. Timing just looks off

I remember KK wasn’t good pre-season last year either. I have a feeling he just takes a few games to get going!

I’m not worried, I think the real KK will show up in the reg season

Lehkonen goaded his old mentor Plekanec into tennis matches and the wily Czech smoked the youngster.

Hahah, isn’t Plek married to a pro tennis player? I remember in the past that was one of the ways plek stayed nimble over the summer. Bet he’s nearly pro level at tennis

    Lmao

As for Laine... he "struggled" last year and still scored 30. Has already scored 30 in 3 straight seasons with 44 in his sophomore season. He's 21 years old. HES A BEAST.

With that said, I dont  think Domi is the guy they'd want because Domis looking to get paid as well after next season. Its more likely a poehling or Suzuki going the other way with a D prospect and a 1st rounder or 2nd round depending on the d prospect...

I basically guarantee they’ll need a proven roster player going back. Drouin at the least

If you are Bergevin and Kevin Cheveldayoff offers you Patrick Laine for Max Domi + Josh Brook ..... do you do it ? #habs

    Personally I don’t.

For one, although Domi Isn’t the pure goal scorer Laine is, I’d argue he’s actually the better all around player at the moment (the Laine could blossom in the next couple year.

Second, Brook has high potential to be a legit top 4, 30+ point D man.

Third, Laine’s struggles last year are flashing a few warning lights for me. I get that he has superstar potential but he also has enigma potential.

  9. I have no justifiable reason for this, but I'm optimistic about the upcoming season. Fully expect a great season from the Habs this season, 100 points. No specific reason, I'm just more optimistic than I have been in a long time about the Habs. I think it's alright for some people to be maybe unrealistically positive here, because let's be honest, theres a S*** ton of negative Nancy doom and gloom posters.
