Yes, I also knew that without the spreadsheet. The spreadsheet shows without a doubt that the CH is clearly above average in the regular season but not as good in the playoffs

A pet peace of mine is when someone claims something is true based on their opinion where data shows otherwise (e.g. climate change)

Fair enough, opinion + evidence is better than opinion alone

I do love our prospect pool, but I also loved the core we had (as I mentioned above)... Bergevin showed how inept he was with the handling of that group.

The Habs are worse off with the subtraction of Shaw and the addition of Chiarot. Where is the direction?

We all get giddy on free agent days or in year's past deadline days, only to be disappointed once again. In 2017, our g.m went out and traded for Martinsen, Ott, and Dwight King( none of which play in the nhl anymore ), when the only real missing piece this team needed was a top 6 forward, that could bury the puck, from time to time

At that very moment, I knew this g.m had no clue what he was doing.

Keep eating the bread though; you guys are paying for Bergevin's hypnotizing, tailored fit suits.

I’m glad I’m not as pessimistic and sour as you. That would be rough.

Price and Weber have been teaching guys like Gallagher, Mete, Petry , Danault, Domi , Tatar, Drouin ,Lehkonen and Kotkaniemi already and these would be the new leadership  in the room for the younger guys like Suzuki, Caufeild and poehling once you trade Weber and Price.

Price and Weber have won gold on international level, and had some success over long careers. I just think they’re better vets for teaching purposes

My thing with management is this,

If you want to go the young way and keep your picks and prospects and not go all out for top UFA's, or make trades to help the team at the deadline ........ Then why hold on to Price and Weber? Do them a favor and trade them to a team that's committed to wining now. If you do that you can still get top end value for them now. Then make your run in 3 years when our top prospects are ready.

Right now their living on false hope that all we need is Price to get a shootout every night and we have a chance. They think they don't need to put a competitive team in front of Price because Price will be the difference. Well this way of thinking has lead us to being a average team at best and missing the playoffs 4 out of 7 years.

At what point in 6 years has this management lead us to believe that they were going to do what it takes to win the cup now? Over the last 2 years we have had the draft picks, the prospects and the cap space to pull off trades to go on a run. But guess what they have done nothing. This is what drives me crazy.

My simple response is veterans are necessary for development. Edmonton is the prime example of why you can’t go pure young talent. Price and Weber are prime players to teach KK Domi, Caufeild, Poehling, Suzuki, Drouin, Lehkonen... our youth list goes on.

They need to learn from the vets

  5. About two years ago, or post-subban trade, I was all for firing Bergevin. I mean I had zero desire to hold onto him. That, then the Alzner signing, a teeeerrrible terrible prospect pool, and the constant need to sign CHaracter guys who couldn’t skate. I really didn’t like MB.

Fast forward two years. The sting of the Subban trade has lessened, and it doesn’t seem as lopsided. He’s sent Alzner to the minors, the prospect pool is the best since pacioretty subban price and McDonaugh (and deeper) he seems to realize this league requires great skaters - MB has turned a page, and so have I.

Im not saying I no longer criticize him, but I’m saying I recognize what he’s done recently, and if you ask me It’s a very good job. If the team regresses, I’ll change my mind, but right now I like the direction, so right now I like MB.

I have three downvotes on this page alone already, because I don't agree to consider Bergevin a failure. I expect I'll get at least one more for this post.

But to extend your proverb, the proof of the pudding is in the eating, and the new season has not started yet. So I am not yet willing to condemn Bergevin's performance for this summer.

I tend to think MB had some failed years, but my gut feeling is that he has learned and turned a page. He’s a pretty young GM and had to learn from those mistakes.

Since resetting I feel he could be pretty good moving forward. Also if it makes you feel any better I disagree with people downvoting you if it’s simply over a difference of opinion. I definitely didn’t see anything worth a downvote myself, which I usually reserve for unwarranted snarkiness hahaha

I love the pool they have, but it's unrealistic to think they're all going to become impact players

I don’t think it’s unrealistic to think Poehling, Suzuki Caufeild and Romanov will be impact players. That doesn’t mean stars, but members of a great team

It's negative, but it's not like he's making things up

Sure, he isn’t making things up, but it’s overboard how much he undervalues the fact that the habs now have a good prospect pool. In the same breath he talks about Timmins being, I think he said an “abysmal” scout. Timmins one struggle was first round draft picks, but I really have to say it feels like he’s turning a page on first rounders.

My thought is that Winnipeg doesn't even entertain such an offer.

They would need to get some kind of help for their current team, far more than just Juulsen.

That’s what I figured. Who goes back from our forward group?

Based on? It seems the opposite, otherwise he would of done a Point and say NO, i am not signing an offer sheet, thanks but I am re-upping with Tampa.

Or, Aho was quite convinced Carolina would match, this he would stay there AND get his contract. If not, he was prepared to make the move to MTL

Barring further expert insight, this looks like a classic patchwork job, I.e., a typical let’s-get-by-with-good-enough move by an organization thoroughly devoted to ‘good enough’ rather than excellence. At most this buys MB more time to properly fix the D. Based on his track record I wouldn’t hold my breath

    I agree though, wildly underwhelming.

This should work just as well as the last time Bergevin signed a left defenceman long term on free agency.

To be fair this isn’t one tenth as bad as the Alzner signing haha.
