I love how excited they are. I think we are going to love them

One thing’s for sure, had I not known what picks Montreal owned and you told me they’d walk out with Slaf, Mesar, Beck and Hutson, I’d be over the moon.

point is, that’s a REALLY nice haul regardless of how we got there.

Specifically now that Slaf is a Hab, I’m gonna be rooting for him hard.

  2. You can nearly think of this guy as a 2023 draft eligible guy since he’s so young.

If you think of a d-1 season, (rookie OHL season) 48 points in 64 games is quite good. easy to expect a fairly huge rise in production next year.

Say if he had been born a few days later  and a 2023 eligible guy, he could have been looked at as a first rounder if he scores say 80+ points next season

I know that’s a little long winded but I just think age and the fact it was his rookie season is a huge factor here.

I am always a little skeptical of these rumours but I have no doubt that there is pressure on Dorion to improve the team as fans in Ottawa are probably getting a little tired of rebuilding and finishing out of the playoffs.

If this trade happened it would almost insure Ottawa would finish ahead of Montreal next year. It would be a short term pain for long term gain type of trade for Montreal which I am fine with.

I would love to trade for 7 especially in the event one of the top 2 RD guys drop there.

drafting Wright and Nemec/Jiricek would be insanity

I share your optimism. Everything Hughes has done so far leads me to believe they have the right team in place. I am excited to see what tomorrow brings.

I share optimism on the rebuild too, but its mostly because of the talent pool we are already set to have in place.

Suzuki Caufield and presumably Wright are extremely solid as a core up front for the next decade+

Then our defence (specifically left) has a ton in the cupboards too. Romanov, Guhle, Barron, and Harris all looking like they can be top 4 (or for Harris maybe an excellent bottom pair.)

if MTL were to pull off a trade for say OTT at 7, it might be specifically if a guy like Jiricek falls to 7 to shore up that rd

I’m thinking a Petry trade announcement today and an Anderson announcement at the draft tomorrow.

I expect our draft picks to look different tomorrow

I hope so! I’m all about draft day chaos. Would easily be my favourite time to be a hockey fan, except no hockey is actually being played 😕

I expect him to trade up from 26, how far though? Will they try for someone with an elite skill, like Lambert's skating, or risk it on one of Romanov's countrymen?

With a trade up lambert could be more realistic in the 20 area

  7. This draft is going to reveal a ton about the HuGO mentality and what they’re trying to build for MSL

In general it seems fast, skilled and cerebral is the focus. I could see one of the following guys at 26

Filip Mesar, Isaac Howard, Noah Ostlund, or Jagger Firkus

Lambert as well if somehow he fell all that way

Oh my god 2 more days....... 2 more days....... 2 more days 🍿🍺🎉🎉

This year’s draft has been so dragged out. Wonder have it must affect the psyche of a guy like Wright who has been scrutinized for literal years as a prospect

With Dumais here is the thing.

Not all big players are lumbering brutes.  There are some (see Noah Warren) who are also fantastic skaters.  But if you are big and merely an average skater you can still make it in the NHL.

If you are small, you are already behind the eight-ball.  While more small players make the league today, they are for the most part very good skaters, or even better. Dumais isn't a bad skater, he's just very average. And without that elite or even very good skating, its hard to project a 5'8" player in the NHL.

Interesting. Most sources I read talk about him as a solid skater "quick" is often used, but yea the word elite is never used.

But skating is something that can be worked on. With Dumais being such a high skill/cerebral guy, I wonder if his skating has some room to grow (from it being decent already).

Almost the definition of a high risk high reward pick. He's top 6 or nothing

I believe size is more important as a defenceman than any other position.  It’s not saying he’s not a good defenceman, it’s saying he needs to be paired with someone with size to offset how much forwards will push him around.  I don’t believe a 5’9 defenceman would be able run a defensive pairing, as opposed to the same skill set in a bigger frame.

You may be getting confused with Lane Hutson (the 5'8 D man, who's actually ranked anywhere from 25-60)

I'm talking about RW Jordan Dumais
