With reports of a rejected 6 million dollar 1-year offer to Markov, it's got me thinking. How much is too much/long for Markov at greater than 6 million?
Honesty at 6, I don't want to see more than 2 years, although it seems he wants 3.
Also, I get the feeling Markov won't be traded, regardless of contract situation.

I know what you're saying about perimeter play/ trap, but Canada dominated possession all tournament. The quality of Canada's play was phenomenol. As a Canadian, it was insanely entertaining to watch our team literally hold possession for minutes at a time in some instances. You're right about Backstrom, but wrong about the quality of play. NJ Devils fans will swear up and down the river that they're entertaining, due to winning the Cup, and that's going to be the opinion of Canadians. The rest of the loser countries were treated to a dog's breakfast of perimeter play and the neutral zone trap.
That being said, I can see how someone who isn't Canadian would tire of watching them cycle the puck for a minute. But that was the game plan, and they excuted it almost flawlessly. They got better as the competition got tougher.

Gooooooold!
And Carey Price ladies and gentlemen. Wow. What a tournament by him.

Although canada is kicking ass.
-
I wish they would stop acting like it's a done game on CBC. 10 minutes is a lot
-
And that's why everyone should love Crosby.

1-0 baby!!

Up till 4:00 player poker with the boys.. Up at 8:20 to watch the game (Newfoundland time)
CANADA!

I started watching the game right when Canada went down 2-0. Time kept running down and it wasn't looking good at all. 3:30 left and Canada Scored, me and my buddies didn't want to get our hopes up. But they pulled the goalie and boom tied it up. That was my favorite moment. Call me crazy but saving yourself from losing the gold is almost sweeter than winning it. Awesome game.
Here's to the boys having that kin of game tomorrow!

This game probably gave a million Canadians high blood pressure. What's amazing is we legitimately could have lost without a few key saves from price. Yes he let in a breakaway goal, but he kept 3 or four great chances out too.
I reeeeally hope they put subban in next game. They need the offence, not the defence.
-
Gotta say I've changed my stance on Doughty. Always thought he was overrated, but he's really showed great poise and skill over the first first games. Funny that like Cucumber said above he's reminded me of none other than subban himself, which is hilarious considering Subban is out of the lineup.
-
I made a very astute observation during the Czech-Sweden game; Plekanec and Jagr have great chemistry. Surprised more people haven't noticed this.
-
If subban is in the box, especially in games that should be easy wins, I've lost a lot of hope for the management. This is where they should want to play subban, because the mistakes they might believe he's gonna make won't necessarily cost us a game. Not that I think Subban would be a detriment versus anyway. I think he's a top 5 defender in the entire Olympics let alone canada. I mean he grew up playing in Belville! Isn't that arena bigger? Olympic size? Maybe I heard wrong.

You forget, our best player (Diaz) was just traded. All our best players are going.
Hahaha actually though, yea, all our best players are going. I hope hope Patches isn't too fragile... Kind of brings a new element to that nickname :/

The 16 day break is probably needed for some of our players, i.e, Prust, as I think he might have been nursing an injury. It also works in our favor for Galchenyuk missing less time.
One of the main downfalls I'm worried about is the toll this will have on Markov. He already seems tired since the start of the year, and extra hockey, and likely some of the heaviest minutes for Russia, could wear him down faster.
On the contrary, I think the Olympics might be exactly what Subban needs to get the ball rolling again. He's young enough to take te workload, and a little change in routine could be great for his game. This is a great growing experience for him.
Thoughts on the good and bad of the break?

There's good teams and then there's great teams. Of course we could win with Desharnais at Center. Look at the devils two years ago. Anyone can win. I just don't think this is a GREAT team. Good with him, not great. I don't hate DD, think he's a great playmaker, but, if I had to make a contender, I wouldn't pick him.

Wow, were scoring! Love 3+ goal games

Essentially how I'm feelingTrading Eller is just crazy talk..... not much value right now, and his line didn't look all that bad last night. He will come around, he's young. Trade the older, softer, smaller guys not Pax and Eller....
-
Just in case you're referring to me, I don't want Eller traded. He's actually one of my favorite Habs despite his current slump. I was just saying if he does go, at least get something for him.Eller is #1 F.O. guy, #1 forward in hits, #1 in blocked shots (but 9th in Habs forwards for PP time).
He is 6'2" 215lbs and 24years old and people want him traded for a prospect? U kidding me? does that make sense after 1,000,000 Smurf-Hobbit snide comments on team forward group?
Hard group to please.
And also, I'm not saying I want conacher either, he's just a good prospect so I was using him as an example. He'd essentially be adding another Briere/ gionta.
-
Eller stopped producing while with the Gallys. He had one strong game where they all scored and otherwise he was the donut on the line in their last games together. That's why it was broken up.
Calgary was probably the first game in a long timewe saw Eller at least look like a dependable third line center, let alone replacing our most complete forward.
I agree with Lovett it might be time to look at Eller as a trade piece to a team that has zero center depth. Somewhere where he can slot in a second line immediately. Flip or package him for a need.
But we complain about trading Diaz while he's at low value, wouldn't this apply (maybe more) I Eller right now? I think Eller is neither as good as he was at the beginning of the year, nor as bad as he is now. I think Eller could put up 50 points given the right line mates, and is solid defensively (ignore his +\- as I'm not sure is a good indicator of his defensive ability).
Look at how he played last year. That's what he's capable of. Honestly I think we could get a silverberg, Conacher, Pirri level prospect for him. I don't want to see him go for nothing.

I know deep down it's not true, but I really feel like I could be a better GM sometimes.
I know hindsight is 20-20, but still a lot of questionable choices coming from MB these days I find.
-
Born in 88. He's only young. Not feeling terrible about this, as Diaz wasn't used anyway.
Let's hope this provides a spark at least
-
I'm also happy this is a matinee and I'm able to watch a Habs game this afternoon
I hope subban finds his offensive game tonight ! Gordie Howe hatty for subban, book it

Another win would go a long way to restore my faith in the team.
I wonder what kind of impact Galchenyuk will have when he returns
How much is too much for Markov?

To be honest I'm almost comepletely in favor of trading him for a top prospect. I say prospect and not pick because his development curve would already be in line with Galchenyuk Gallagher and the core.
Beyond that as you guys have mentioned, that clears up a good 4-5 mill in cap space depending on the prospect.
