If you want the Habs to be a great team, it won't be because they have a good draft pick this year. Tanking the season to move up in the draft would send a great message to the young guys on the team(sarcasticly)........let alone the fans!!!!!!
The best thing for our team right now would be play-off experience. Win or lose. Maby a lot of these kids will find themselves. Look what it did for Komi, last year.

Maby you should look at the team around Saku in Finland and then re-think your statement. That is one sorry excuse for thinking the Habs will never win a cup with saku as a captain.
Now, I'm not giving up. The reason is this.
Gainey knows Saku doesn't have what he needs around him, but he does know he wants to build it with Saku.
All of our rookies are going to be amazing hockey players in the next couple of years. (i wish it was right now, but it's not)
A few deals this summer, growth from our rookies, a clean-up of unmotivated players, and we're going to be one dangerous team........Saku included...
Then you can stick this thread up your............well you know what I mean.

It is a point that LA didn't consider Huet a #1 and wanted our backup Garon over him. But when you look at the stats this year you can't say Huet is bad, he's obviously good, maybe great, maybe just what we need. He has four shutouts in not a lot of games, a great save %, his puck handling is way better than Théo's, he costs like one-tenth as much.
He's not Brodeur, but even Marty has an off night now and then. Huet has not cost us a game and he has won us a few, so let's support the guy!
I am supporting.........I think Huet is great....We are lucky to have stole such a late bloomer. I just can't beleive this thread has been started .
In no way was that Huet' fault, he was great. The team in front needs to learn how to score more then 1 goal a game...
Off night now and then , of course, only thing is. It wasn't an off night for Huet. In an old thread about something else I said that a certain person would start a "What's wrong with Huet thread " if he didn't get a shut-out the following night.

Putting Koivu with Kovalev is a terrible idea. Why saddle the most talented player on our team with Koivu, who is absolutely useless right now? At this point, if I'm Kovalev, I'd much rather have Ribeiro as my center. For that matter, I'd much rather have Plekanec as my center.
The whole point would be to light a fire under they're ass......Did you just recently become a Habs fan?.......The two of them with Zednick enjoyed success together.............
ALSO Ribs and ryder had sucess too.....I think it's a great idea bcause what we have now ain't working....

I really doubt Gainey goes after a goalie. I also think Luongo is resigning now that they have Olli. Richards would be great. Vinny would too if he didn't cost us $6.75M over the next 3 years. I would rather get Carney, Kubina, Redden, Mitchell, Arnott, etc... I can't think of any first line wingers available besides Richards. There's a lot of talent on the market though. I'll officially join the anti-Gainey bandwagon if he sits still with all the extra cash he's got.
I hear you, but I really think he's going to do something big. The problem is players not wanting to play in Montreal. We all will blame Gainey....but what can he do if the players say no.
People are already bagging on him when the truth is, if anyone is going to make montreal attractive it's going to be him.......
It will all work out. I just hope we put in a good effort and make the play-offs. This team has been so uninspiring to me, that I really don't care to watch. Mostly just the way that they're losing...like they don't give a shit......so why should I.

It didn't take a genious to make that trade. It took Pierre Lacroix (ok maybe he's the genius) to fleece the Canadiens for another goaltender... So far its looking ok. Theodore's not playing right now, He'll play in the playoffs when Colorado doesn't have to pay him, and Montreal is paying for Aebischer, a guy who couldn't even stop Andre Roy. A guy who has lost consecutive games, giving up 10 goals. A guy who couldn't beat the 30th place team in the league....so far on the Lacroix/Gainey genius scale...Lacroix 1, Gainey no score
And if you wanna go back 10 years. Lacroix 2, Montreal Canadiens no score.
When we don't re-sign or trade Abby next year. Continue with Huet untill our brilliant young goalies, (Danis,Halak,Price) make they're way up to the big league. An off season pick up of a defenseman and power forward, with the money saved by trading Theo. For a goalie of equal value.....yes I said equal.

I'm sorry guys but I looked at the goals and only the the last one did he actually look bad!... the second one was ugly but his stick got stuck in the side of the net after a collision!. all the other goals were bad luck and Pens all alone and with all the time in the world to shoot! (Abs fault? or the D's Fault?)
Abs had to play tonight! Gainey had no choice you dont put your newly acquired player vs the Canes and then sit him out for the rest!... Abs got work to do and Huet is our goalie for the rest of the season until and read well UNTIL Abs gets used to the new equipment and the team! Nothing can be deduced from this last game other than MORE practice and MORE time for Abs! NOTHING else! now if Abs had sucked in The Canes game too then this humiliating lose vs the Pens would be another issue!
I think Abby will be a lot better, but please, no excuses.....don't defend him.....put Huet in, these games are too important.

Youre mistaken to think Huet can handle that many games! He arguably can't ! he was burned a couple of games before. Unless we have a goalie that can at least play 1/3 of the games before playoffs ( I'm not saying we do or dont have right now) then we might have a chance with Huet in the first round of playoffs. But if he plays them all I could bet ya he wont have a full tank for the first round! Gainey made it crystal clear were playing with a tandem of Goalies not A One goalie show!Well, if that's the case then there won't be a first round to have a full tank for.......... We are not in a situation to wait for Abby to get used to things.......I agree with you, but man Abby is stinkin. I hope he gets it together sooner then later.......
Watch Abby be the one to get hot, and take us to the finals after a burnt Huet gets pulled in the first 2 games of the opening round.
For the first time this season, and I've seen every game this year, I completely tuned out the third period. Miserable team to watch... they should be a lot better then they are.....this sucks.

I was about to make a thread about that goal. He made an amazing deke where he shot the puck off a players skate, jumped aornd a defender and then picked up the puck again to swoop in on a breakaway. But I have to say that was a bit lucky. Man, I wish we still had this guy.

It's not going to matter how they match up with other playoff teams if the habs don't make the playoffs. They 4 games with Pitt and Wash and they haven't beaten them once this year. The Koivu line needs to give there heads a shake. A nice minus 6 last night. Combined with Rivet and Souray who were abused all night. Things aren't looking too good. The habs will need 12 out of the next 16 points and hope Tampa or Atlanta slows down. The offense 5 on 5 has been poor all year, that needs to change immediately.
How can they be -6 when there were only 5 goals against.......???????

The good news: Thats the last game we play versus Carolina this season. They sweep the season series and end up outscoring us something like 25-9 over those 4 games. Ouch
The bad news: We might end up playing Carolina in the playoffs....

Another shit game for Koivu, I hate to single him out (since the whole team was pretty much crap tonight, aside from the goalie) but he is the captain for the reason, he's supposed to be the leader, but how many straight bad games has Koivu played now? I lost track counting. Its unacceptable.
What are you talking about? Aebischer was fantastic tonight. He had no chance on basically any of the goals, in fact he held us in the game up until the 3rd period when the habs completely fell apart and started taking dumb penalties.
Actually, I thought the habs really started out well.....They kept up with the Hurricanes untill the middle of the 2nd period ,it's not like we were playing st.louis. Ya, your right....the leaders of this team should have got it going, but guess what. We just played a team that is a lot better then us.
Because of BG and his coaching and inspiration .....we put up a decent try. Good things to come. Other then that, it's plain and simple......we are not as good as them.....Our guys tried but they're not as good as their guys, by any means.
I think we can take any team in the play-offs, but not the Hurricanes.....They are going to win the cup.
With all that said, If we meet them in the 1st round I hope our guys show up and at least make it interesting. I want them to win more then you do, Puck.
On the Abby, Theo remark, it was light hearted but some what truthfull. It just felt like the old days......brilliant saves to keep the team in the game, then blows it and we blame the team.. Theo all over again.
You can say what you want, and yes I saw the amazing saves, but I also saw the shifty, insecure, way too excited side aswell....which reminded me of Theo....that's all.....

Seeing Abby tonight, made me realize how much control and calmness Huet has.......
Abby is great, but I don't think for a second he made Bob Gainey a believer tonight...hopefull but not a believer.
Kovalev was hot.......he's some what of a leader......I didn't see Bulis, Higgins, Ribs, Souray,Rivet, Ryder pick it up...........
Give credit where credit is due.....to the Hurricanes....They made us look bad.
