  1. Pumped Ryder signed for 2.2 million.

That is a deal and a half for a 30 goal scorer.

I would love to see him put up 40+ this year and return to the more physical game he played in his rookie season.

I agree completely. Hopefully, he will get back to a more physical game next year if that damn hernia doesn't botter him next year, I think that it's what caused him to be less physical this year.

  2. unless they feel they had the best out of the deal.

remember that colorado and calgary have traded players frequently in recent years dispite the fact that they're division rivals

And Edmonton trading Pronger to Anaheim. You trade where the best deal is, not matter if it's a division rival.

Ok related to getting another 2ndline Centre.... as in BRIERE!

unless Kovy Sammy and Ribs score more than what they create turnovers then that line Carb mentioned would work...

Objectively they dont have the 2 way factor Bulis gave .... so Ribs cannot centre that line of Nondefensive wingers

So if Johnson does not have what it takes to replace Ribs... then Koivu will have to play with the Russian wingers... and we will need to place Ribs with Ryder and Higgins! Which was KOZED's first interpretation that I now think will be plan B if PLan A doesnt work

If Carbonneau, a defensive specialist thinks that Ribs can center Sammy and Kovy, then I think he can. No need for a defensive specialist on a top #1 line, that's a false concept many people have.

And in my opinionn, base on last year's performance, including the playoffs, Brière is a fine #1 center, not a #2. Koivu would be #2 to Brière. who scored 25 goals in 48 games last year. Koivu never scored 25 goals in one season.

A line of Sammy-Briere-Kovy would be devastating and unmatched in a Canadiens roster since a very very long time. Just imagine the potential. Ribs and Ryder can go if we get Briere. It gives us a threw #1 line, and it gives room for a young winger to play with Higgins and Koivu. Between Perez, Kost and Lats, one is bound to do the job.

I would definetly try to acquire Briere, if available, on for the right price.

  3. Not saying I agree with it, just a thought.

I think the roster is set, barring something happening with Abbie. And that may not happen until the deadline, if at all.

Which youngster would you guys like to see up? Chips? Latendresse?

Kostitsyn. He now has 2 years of experience in the AHL and I think he's ready to make the jump.

Chips needs to go play one year in the AHL. Can always be a call up if we have injuries.

Latendresse would be nice, but he needs to have a great camp and beat out Kostitsyn.

  4. Sorry guys, I was under the impression that rumours from Eklund were ok, since that he is quoted so often on this board.

So, speaking hypothetically, how would everyone here feel if the Habs were to pick up Anson Carter? He is the only high profile guy left, and there seems to be a number of teams interested. Would he be a good fit here?

    Not really.

    1) We don't have the cap room to sign him

    2) Don't you think we have enough wingers as it is? There's barely any room for Kostitsyn and what if Latendresse pulverizes everyone at camp and deserves a spot?

    3) Gainey said that he will leave one spot available for a young guy

    4) Why would we want Carter? He only played great because he was with the Sedin twins

    No thank you, I'll pass.

  5. They're also maxed out on cap I think. They have to be. Anson Carter will not be a Leaf. Before they signed everyone yesterday and before the Peca signing they had a little over 6 million to play with.

We know Peca is going to sign for 2.5.

That leaves 4.5. Well, then theres Wellwood for 800 K. That leaves 3.7. Where's the wiggle room?

Where's Stajan? Plus they signed Colaiacovo, Bell & Harrison too.

They must be done. Carter will have to go elsewhere unless I missed something.

They are done, according to spector, they are at 42.8M$ with everybody signed.

  6. NOTE: I have no idea whether they are brothers. I always thought they weren't... but who knows.

BUT - isn't Voskresensk a suburb of Moscow?

It's 80 KM away from Moscow. I know it wasn't a big help in the discussion naming their origins, but I really am sure they're not brothers. Don't want to be a prick here, just want to inform you properly that they are not brothers, that's all.

    Hope I didn't offend anyone.

Do the search I mentionned about the brothers, you will hit easily for the Fedorov's, Jokinen's or any other ones, except the Markov brothers, because they're not.

  7. Read my Edit2. :P

Fine, let's play a game. Take all the brothers taht you know and do a google search for, example: olli jokinen brother jussi jokinen

You will find a zillion hits for all the brother connections you can come up with, except for the Markov's. Proof that they are not brothers. There is not enough articles that mention them as brothers, only 2 or 3 (basicaly, only the ones posted here so far) that are not reliable and made mistakes.

It's the last time I post about this, I'm tired of wasting my time when I know I'm 100% right.

    They are NOT brothers.

if they are brothers, don't you think that the media would've talked about it ??

I still really doubt that they're brothers

Thank you, exactly what I just posted.

  8. Thx ATHLÉTIQUE.CANADIEN ;)

    I knew it. :P

I remember hearing they were back when Andrei was drafted, because Danny was a Leaf at that time.

The Wikipedia entry was most likely changed in late June when the people at the other Habs board were talking about it. Some jack-hole probably took it upon themselves to change it, soley because they arent born in the same city, so therefore they couldnt possibly be related.

They might have been born in the Comunist USSR, but its not like the Soviets forced people to have children in the same cities.

Basically all the Euro players in the Olympics that have the same last names, are brothers. The only exception I know of is that Ronnie is no relation at all to Matts.

@ Komisarek the Cruncher, that article probably just forgot about them, or just didnt realise it, its apparently a common thing.

Believe what you want, I know they're not. The proof is that everyone knows about all the other brothers in the league, because it's always mentionned. Nobody ever talks about Andrei and Danny being brothers.

I did a search about it, and verywhere on other hockey boards everyone agrees that they are not brothers.

Believe me on that one, they are not brothers.

And I highly doubt that they would have forgotten them in the article.

  9. Man you guys are boggers, they are NOT brothers. Read this:

    http://www.stlouisblues.com/news/0506/060214.html

This is from the NHL site, written in February 2006 for the Olympics. Both Andrei and Danny made the Russia team and all the way at the bottom of the article, it says:

--Five sets of brothers with NHL experience are featured: Frantisek and Tomas Kaberle (Czech Republic); Mikko and Saku Koivu (Finland); Marcel and Sascha Goc (Germany); Marcel and Marian Hossa (Slovakia) and Daniel and Henrik Sedin (Sweden).

Unless I can't read, they didn't mention the Markov's brothers.

I'm 100% sure they are not brothers. Not just for that article, but because it was said and mentionned many times by games analysist over the past few years.

  10. Carbonneau said himself that they'll look to pair Samsonov and Kovalev with Ribeiro.

Koivu, Higgins, Ryder looked good last year so theres no sense in breaking them up.

The only real question will be what is done with the other 6 forward positions with Perezhogin, Kositsyn, Begin, Bonk, Johnson, Murray, Downey and Plekanec.

Looks like a forward will have to be moved. Kostitsyn needs to play this year. I'd say Downey will probably be waived to Hamilton.

I agree with you, Carbonneau said that Ribs will be Sammy and Kovy's center.

As for Downwy, we are aloud a 23 man roster, no need to move any forwrads: 2 goalies, 7 Ds and 14 forwards. Downey can stay, he's #23. He will just not get dressed too often as they can only dress 21 per game.

  11. I'm 99.999% sure they are brothers. The majority of Euro players with the same last names are related. I beleive their are more brothers currently playing in the NHL than all brothers who have ever played NHL combined.

And I'm 100% they are not brothers, I guess you fell in that 0.001% chance of being wrong :P

Danny is from Mosow and Andrei is from Voskresensk.

  12. I only found it if french.

    http://www.radio-canada.ca/sports/hockey/2...bs-gainey.shtml

    To summarize quickly:

    1) Gainey is into plan D (Elias, Arnott and Shanahan were is plans A,B,C)

    2) He says that Mtl in no different then other teams and taxes have nothing to do with UFAs not coming, its just circonstances

    3) The Hbas only have a limited amount of players they were interested in, but many teams were after them also

    4) He will only sign a player if they waant him and at the right price (he said that there was a few very heavy and very long contracts given this summer and he doesn't want to be stuck with a player for many seasons)

    5) He's looking for a forward, Sykora is a possibility and a trade is also a possibility

    6) Gainey completely dismisses the possibility of making an offer sheet to a RFA saying "it is not a good way to go to obtain a player"

    Enjoy :D

  13. as much as I believe Lang is wanted in mtl... Detroit would want a whole lot in return specially now that they are short up front! this means again 2 prospects and a ribeiro ribbon on top

Lang is 36 years old and only as 1 year left on his contract, the guy is not worth that much.

  14. For whatever its worth, Code said:

    1) Samsonov is Detroit bound

    2) Zednik is on the block for the right offer (Lang)

    3) Souray is not on the market

    4) Aebi is on the market

    5) The Habs are not in a hurry to trade Ribs

    6) That getting info on the Habs was very difficult as they don't leak anything, but when he gets something, it's gold and pretty accurate (typical BG, keeping everyone in the dark)

    7) Habs are very interested in Lang and reuniting him with Kovy

Nothing spectacular, pretty much stuff that we already knew.

Lang is my favorite option, especially for Zednik. Only a 1M$ increase in the cap and a 1 year contract, for something better to come along next year.

  15. GMs are still adapting to the cap system, and the cap as increased by 5M$ this year and will probably increase another 2-3M$ next year. It will settle down in a couple of years, hey, in the end teams can't go over the cap, so they can't spend that much.

I think that the cap will install a huge gap between low end and hign end players. The high end will get all the cash and the low ones will get their under a million salaries.

More over, we will have the flexibility vs. most other teams who will be tight in the upcoming years.

After next year, once the cap will be at 46-47M$, Koivu's and Kovalev's contracts won't look so hih anymore, in fact, they are starting to look like bargains.

  16. Don't even try comparing Ryder with Kovalchuk. There is not one aspect of the game that Ryder is better than him at. A 50 goal scorer with a 30 goal scorer, Kovalchuk also has New NHL speed, superstar talent and an underrated checking game.

Who's trying to compare them? Read first, then think, then post a reply.

The comment was said that both guys jobs is to score and that's all they bring. Kovalchuk checking? Ya right, like Bulis was a big checking player also

Kovalchuk scores more and is paid more for it, but that's all they bring to the game, no defense, no checking.

There are not that many good two way players that are high scorers out there. Most players bring some skills and the mix of them all makes a team. Stop bashing a scorer like Ryder, we need him, PERIOD.

  17. Shanahan would be nice, and he would definitely make us more dangerous and larger upfront, but I still worry about our center position. If Ribero has a great year, or Plekanec really starts to dominate at center it would reduce my concerns ... but these are ifs.

I'd also like to see an elite offensive defensman.

We have a cap to respect.

I would have liked Elias, Arnott and Chara, but we are at 39M$ already for our full roster, can't afford a lot without shedding some salaries first.

Bring in Shanny and Lang, get rid of Zed and Ribs, and we will be at 42M$ about. We can still save another million by trading Aebi and having Danis, but that is it. BG wants to be at 42M$ top he said.

  18. This hole argument is a joke.

How can anyone knock down our only 30 goal scorer when scoring is our #1 problem.

Sometimes I just don't get people?

You think that Kovalchuk works hard, plays well defense and plays physical, the answer is NO. But everybody would take him right away.

Ryder's job is to score goals and is doing a fine job at it.

  19. The mighty has spoken!

Quick call Gainey and let him know he is on vacation until training camp opens.

    Sanford? are you kiddding?

"we in the east...." speak for yourself I know who he is and what he is capable of.

St.Louis is looking for a goalie

The clueless as spoken !!! Why be an arrogant prick, I didn't say anything insulting. What? as soon as somebody says opposite of what you said you feel insulted? Mr. is sensitive? Mr. as feelings?

You apparently don't know Sanford for saying such stupidities.

St-Louis is not looking for a goalie (every fuc...ng rumor says so and none are sending a goalie to ST-Louis). Can't wait to see how a fool you will look when they start the season with Sanford and Bacashihua.

  20. True TRUE DAT, I'll cheer for Ribs espesially that he plays for the HABS again but my cheers are really muffed in my jersey since BG gave him 2 f***en' million, does anyone else belive 1.1 plus performance bonus'????

Performance bonuses are no longer allowed except for players over 35 who signed a 1 year contract.

As for the 1.9M$ to Ribs, that's is value, wheter we like it or not. Just compare to similar players with similar experience.
