I like what we got in Brett Festerling... but with Gorges out we need to improve the D,
Weber and Picard screw up to many times to be defensively reliable and arguably they both are 7th D right now we need another top 4 D, Festerling isnt one. But if we are gonna use more 6th and 7th Ds on the roster, then I say send Weber down for offensive re-conditioning (I mean come on! he misses the net 2 times out of 3) and in the meantime bring up Henry or Festerling for defensive duties

In short: Martin's track record in player development is extremely strong . It is ridiculous to claim otherwise.
That is reassuring Chicoutimi!
Yet, the worries for this organization in lieu of present statistics and former player development (blossoming) abroad, still make this question arguably legitimate...
Perhaps it boils down to coaching assistants?
Furthermore, any concerns of this type should still be dealt with pro-actively, and not reactively. I work in resource management, and with a precautionary principle in mind, can we not hire more development coaches to take the rookies and younger players under their wing. Maybe there is I don't know.. But we cannot risk this anymore. The rumor is that the vets are not that supportive as they should be because of JM reign of benching terror.
Regardless if the recruits don't fit the team, we cannot keep this tendency of trading assets for nothing when they don't fit our needs, we are depleting our recruiting structure... For those Biologically inclined you can say this is Recruitment over-harvesting like... or better yet Recruit/juvenile wasting.
The fact that D'agostini, Latendresse Lapierre chipchura etc.. play better in other teams isn't my concern... the fact that we often don't get much in return, because we're FORCED or pressured to get rid of them is my concern

I'm gonna cry!

How little confidence Martin must have in Spacek and Picard to have to use Plekky as the pointman for the PP.
Spacek could be used if he could play more than 15 min... Unfortunately, he is arguably our 2nd best defensive dman dressed for tonight's game.. Its all about Ice time people, remember that.

Again , referring to the gospel of Montreal habs hockey; Antichambre
Martin Lemay, commented on how Jm "destroys more than he builds"
He stated and I quote "Name me a player that has improved or developped in the Canadiens under JM"
the only person they named (jokingly) Halpern
I will call that and raise the following... name me a player he developed in Florida?
I dont know much about his senators regime... but wasnt he criticized for blocking J Spezza's progress?
And just for the sake of arguing... If JM is the kind of coach that best coaches developed players and less so non develop players. Then are the present day habs a team fit for JM? or are we killing the next generation of up and coming players.
Time after time we have agreed that the best way to build a team is to do it the Detroit red wings way... develop within and then complete the roster with trades and pick ups. Are we not headed in the wrong direction?
-
OUR WORST FEAR!!!
the reality that the HAbs are not a "player developing" organization!?!?!!
-
lol @ making a difference from a #3 to a #4. they play on the same duo...
if Spacek and Hammer are our pair 2nd best pairing dmen and Hammer is > than Spacek, therefore Hammer is 3 and Spacek is 4. doesnt that make sense? it does to me
-
Trade so far sucks...
An established 3rd 4th line NHLer for an AHL Dman
but if we get a Pavel Datsyuk with that 5th round pick then perhaps....
but it does allow us to reap the Hamilton pool more with Desharnais (on paper) potentially staying in Mtl for good... We were (are) close to losing Desharnais for this I think we gained!
I would still be inclined to get another D that can play 23min+. In waiting I wouldnt mind seeing another physical Dman come over from Hamilton that can handle 20+min when the time comes.
-
For the most part, seemed to be Gill-Subban, Hamrlik-Wisniewski, Spacek-Weber, a nice balance to me.
YEs i agree... thank goodness he (JM) didnt pair two right shots again, or is that Perry's doing?
-
guys i only managed to watch the game shortly before the end of the 3rd...
can you tell me what the D pairings were?
Hammer played 26 min
Wiz 23
PK 21
Gill 20.5
Spachek 19.5
Weber 17

Wiz comes as advertised. A top-4 offensive defenceman Dare I hope that we're already starting to see what I anticipated when we acquired him - i.e., a better all-around game driven from the back end.
Really, a strong effort tonight. They had what, 46 shots? Gomez and Gio were playing like their jockstraps were on fire. Let's see more of that!!
RDS really f*cked up. What a joke.
if this is a number 4 Dman it shows you how over rated our D is... lets get rid of all the D and switch them with Number 4s
-
Ok AK46 took a bad penalty, but having Pyatt with Pleks and Cammy???? I don't see the same treatment when Gomez or Cammy take stupid penalties.
Absolutely... PG and the co must not like that...
WHAT WIZ scored again why are we not seeing it?
-
Wiz just saved a goal right there with a body check
-
Michel Bergeron said it months ago!
He was thinking that Lapierre and Latendresse surely kept in contact... and Latendresse would be telling Laps how good he has it now that he is out of mtl, no pressure he can play his game etc...
Lapierre wished it he got it
-
pretty much everyone agrees that we need a big winger but who do we go after?
i think one guy that might be had is Dustin Penner but not sure what we have to give up?
some other guys that might be trade bait
Jarome Iginla
Jamie Langenbrunner
Patrik Elias
Alex Tanguay
get whomever you want (trading)
but send some of these players to Hamilton PLEASE
-ELLER is improving but there is no time and room for his improvement; here is your ticket TAK
-Picard, you're lucky Weber was so rusty tonight... otherwise I would have you holding your ticket in your mouth tom morning
-Moen, what on earth are you doing out there? NOthing!
-Darche, Its JM's fault your on the PP? stop licking his ass then!
-Pouliot, I give up, time to amputate before the gangrene hits the vital organs
Positive note
D was better tonight PK mistake (acceptable) Gill, Spacek and Hammer (yes 2 penalties) TOI less than 20 min each THANK PG for the Wiz kid
Oh and blame JM for this loss!
Bring desharnais .. How worse can it be
-
Another PP and its Crap. Why wouldn't you play Wiz with Subban????? Get two guys who can control the play at the point. Gomez has become an anchor again for Gionta and MaxPac
And WTF, Darche on the PP again.
Martin has to go. Don't know who you replace him with. IMO, you could replace him wit a chimp and he would probably be better
yeah lets put Guy Boucher in his place...
I hate Steve Yzerman now.
-
Hammer-PK
Gill-Weber
Spacek-Wiz (Picard sits)
So Picard sits tonight AS SHOULD BE!!!
-
Gauthier so far has been perfect, my favourite Habs GM so far even though he's made so few changes.
The only thing now is a forward but Montreal doesn't have the cap space. 13-14-46, 67-11-21, 57-81 gives Montreal 8 forwards with decent offensive skills. One more and they have 3 complete scoring lines.
Oh they will...
When this trip is done, Hamilton will have several new or familiar faces coming back, positive they can car pool down there
-
Well, he did nothing at practice today, it was cancelled actually.
really? great!
well team chemistry practice then... It seems its at a low lately, hopefully these two games in florida are not as bad as last year's
-
I thought i could easily pair wiz on the line-up but now....
ok if we want a top pairing and minute munching dman Wiz could be paired with Hammer or Spacek (this means running 23min+) but we want to limit spacek's time to 20 min a game... Second we want Hammer to help PK and when inserted Weber, when these guys are paired with hammer there is an increased TOI for the youngsters and increase in confidence... so Im hoping we can play everyone around 20 min give or take a minute
Hammer-Pk (20-21 min) or insert Weber here
Spacek (natural position)- Wiz (20-21 min)
Gill-Gorges
One of Picard or Weber should be 7th dman...the other is headed to Hamilton
but for these back to back games (assuming Gorges is still out) these could be pot line ups
Hammer-PK
Gill-Weber
Spacek-Wiz (Picard sits)
but if Weber sits we get this combo which doesnt make much sense
Hammer-PK
Picard-Wiz
Gill-Spacek
which means Hammer has to play either Spacek or Wiz leaving the kids alone again and resulting in weak low TOI pairings that JM was playing before
Hammer-Wiz
Gill-Spacek
Picard-PK
don't know need to see what JM does at practice

with all the holiday spirit and &^@(^%@
I forgot to say...
THANK YOU SANTA (P.Gauthier)
this WIZZ is more than welcome!
cant wait to see what changes come from his addition
This will male lapierre wake up too... notice he wears an A?
-
First I hear of that, was it mentioned on the broadcast? (Since I don't speak French, I often miss key points...or the point on the RDS games .)
RDS antichambre almost 2 weeks ago, then on RDS news
-
Everyone wants to see 4 lines go.. thats not the issue
when your sick you have to be in bed and rest... of course you'd rather be outside and work/play hard
This D is sick! unless this Wiz kid can take 25+ min and reduce the TOI of Spacek's and Gorges
Then concentrate on which duo i.e. Picards, Weber and PK can adjust to play proper 18 min then we can go back to 6 dmen
-
I agree with HabFan84...send down Weber and keep Pk in fold...I think this is GREAT deal for Habs! No cost, instant upgrade with major potential upside...
Habs told Weber to get an apartment... he aint going down yet unless a trade is coming... otherwise hope Weber didnt get that apartment yet.
Gorges done for the year.

stating the obvious here... or maybe not
With The Habs D trouble of late, there definitely was a possibility that Gorges would of been allowed to return to the line-up in say another week or two. The fact that the organization decided not to, shows how the Habs have Josh as a TOP Priority for a contract extension.
