  1. Growing up, I liked Tremblay, but after Dec 2, 1995. I have hated Mario Tremblay and will hate will hate him an the the rest of the unholy trinity (Corey, Houle, Tremblay) that sent the habs into a leafs like dark ages that they have never fully recovered from!

He he... I remember a past thread discussing that... L'antichambre had Houle And Tremblay together for the post Heritage game.. I imagined alot of viewers cursing their TV sets, after that terrible game and PLUS having to see a duet of that, what you call 'unholy trinity' as a post game lol

But I luckily was out of Canada in the 90's. And Missed all that .. So My first impression of Tremblay; the kool Habs player who handed me (a 15 year old teen) at a Habs gala, a pack of beer tickets and told me "Have some fun with this kid" is still my present impression of Mario ...A HERO!!! ;)

  2. Speedy Gomez has a NMC? or a NTC? I can't remmember

I don't know what PG would/could do... IF we were two forwards from being cup contenders and these two forwards would command 10 mil in cap space then yes sending Gomez down to free up capspace would be a way to go. For this move would have to be calculated and isn't exempt from consequences. We can agree that Montreal is still not a Prime destination for Hockey Players to call home. Therefor, moving Gomez down like the Rangers did with Redden would likely affect our capability to land UFA in the future. PG and Co have to think Long term as well as Short term. So unless our circumstances improve greatly, i.e. get a franchise Forward who will attract players in the future, or secure our chances in repeating last season's playoff prowess. We are only left with the posibility of trading him out or finding the missing wingers who will make him perform better.

  3. Yep, a great read for sure.

What I like about it is, the writer states the fact that the game and L'Hockeyeur calls for skill above gronkishness.:D

That is right, I invent words!!!:B)

    ha! Gronkishness

I had forgotten Livingstone had left the Habs... its also interesting to read that too much rest is a bad thing as well... in terms of managing their adrenaline levels... hockey is so much fun! ;)

  4. Well, the first time I opposed getting a d-man was just before Gorges got injured. Once he got injured, they acquired the Wiz and I was fine with that. The second time I opposed getting a d-man was just before Gill, Wiz and Spacek suffered their injuries. Once Nash had to be called up, I was fine with getting a Mara to plug that spot. Now Spacek is out for the season... so Sopel will be useful. We just got unlucky with injuries this year and had to spend picks restocking a position we were already fine at.

I'm not sure about Henry. I don't remember him or Mara doing anything special in their team in the NHL but I trust Mara more because of his experience. He's proven that he can hold down an NHL job.

That's exactly the point, you (and many others) were reactive instead of being proactive... When Markov was lost it didnt take long to see that the D core wasnt able to distribute the Markov load efficiently. JM was forced to make Spacek and Gill play over 20 min a game while Picard and Weber were being played around 10 min... Hamrlik and Gorges were sur taxed as well but we thought they could handle that...Yet we suspected the D was gonna suffer in the long run... PG mishandled Gorges injury (perhaps Gorges is at fault for not wanting surgery in the summer) and then we got the Domino effect that we feared.... i.e. Out goes Spacek fot the year... All was to some degree forecast by many of us

  5. I love watching L'Antichambre for that same reason... Bergie is wacko and outdated and many other panelists are too.. But then u get PJ Stock and another young panelist Martin Lemay i think is his name.... with a more modern twists to it... and then u get the clash of opinions.. Mario tremblay thinks this... the sports journalists say that....in the end it makes me laugh my head off... My wife can't get it why I like that show... anyhow..

But you know when old(er) people speak you listen, Not because you have to believe in what they say, its the weight of the years that (at least for me) trigger this in me .. ok let me listen to you for a minute or two and then I'll keep whats useful and dish out what isn't

  6. Mara's use is that he's better than any emergency call up from Hamilton. We can't rule out that there are further injuries to the D. That's when it'll help to have 8 NHL d-men. Also leadership, I guess.

Good to read that you are finally seeing our weakness at D

But I disagree that Mara is any better than Alex Henry. Perhaps Henry is too useful as a leader and protector in Hamilton, but worse than Mara not a chance in hell

  7. Sopel will be a big help. I don't know him very much, but it's quite obvious that we need an experienced defenseman to play on the PK. He will be an upgrade from the current situation.

Dawes is more enigmatic. I might be mistaken, but I have the feeling that management will give him a try with the big club before long. He is not very tall, but looks big enough to take care of himself. His scoring ability in the junior makes him an interesting option with possible upside. Who knows? At 26 years old, he might be ready to blossom...

Bergie raised a point last night on Antichambre...(which we have heard many times) That often, players reinvent themselves... Example was Ian Laperriere who was, like Dawes, a goal scorer in junior. And so was Guy Carbonneau, etc.

At 26 you dont blossom, what happens is that you fit a team's strategy. Bergie also said "WTF, Sopel top league shot blocker?" and added "Name me one hall of famer thats renown for being a shot blocker?" true but we need D's... Although with the several D's on waivers, maybe picking Sopel was a bit too quick?!?!

Anyhow....As long as we can pick up some help and size up front then I will be content.

  8. Im sure your remarks on Penner are true, having seen him play that many times

Nonetheless, what we need above all is someone in front of the net that cannot be moved and blocks the view of the goalie...

Also I've heard Penner just married a Montreal girl, She is Richard Zednik's ex-wife

But if its size we need up front... bring up Alex Henry... I'm tired of saying it but its true

Im reading his name everyhwere I go... Hhy go after Mara when we have Henry, if we cant get a big body up front get Henry... Im reading it everyhwere I go... if PG doesnt get anyone at tradedeadline I would Play him as fourth liner who can help on D if needed... Ive written this before... Its the natural evolution of the fourth line... you need the 7th D that can fight clear net and block the front of the net if they do get up in the offensive side

  9. Because they are RD's.

They play together on the PP because of there shots.

    I

    t will be

    Wis Hamrlik

    Subban Gill

    Sopel Mara

I expect there being some sort of other move. Adding some beef and grittiness to the front end. I also expect AK46 going somewhere else.

I think Weber os ok and all but he gets beat down low and in his own end alot, You need toughness and size come playoff time. That's why the deal was made.

But I repeat if Gill misses another game you will preffer Picard over Weber? then your forced to put 2 Right D's together

  10. This quote would be my guess. Sopel has had playoff success and fits the shutdown role, allowing Subban to play with someone not named Gill. I'd also suspect it's Maxwell for Sopel, 4th for Dawes. New blueline, sans Spacek, stands at Hamrlik - Wisniewski, Gill - Sopel, Mara - Subban, Picard - Weber. 8 active D, could see Picard swapped for a mid-pick later on.

I suspect Gill is at best 60%... Martin and co shoudl give him time off to rep for the playoffs, I'm not sure about Sopel.. will look into his Average time on ice during his stay as a Thrasher.

what was the powerplay right shot D's combo we had before with Subban? was it Wiz? we have 4 right D's .. if Picard sits instead of Weber, then why not pair Sub with Wiz and have them build some chemistry so when its time for the PP its more natural.. it has been done in the past:

    Hammer-Sopel

    Wiz-Subban

    Mara-Weber

  11. I might be the only one who thinks this... but how do the Habs not make an offer of a 6th round pick and get Kovalev.

I know he takes games off, but when he wants to play he can be a dominant player. Look at that Boston series when he took the slash and let them have that game, he became a force afterwards.

I just think he'd of been a nice addition to a team needing offense. And no roster player going the other way...

A.Kost - Eller - Kovalev??? Could have been an exciting 4th line.

    gasp... agreed...

but i fear think PG is still looking for someone on the top two lines. Sens offered Kovy to Mtl numerous times for the exact same pick, PG held off because he still wants to get something better... had Kovy still been available at the deadline perhaps

  12. I agree with BTH that if the Habs are going to address the Gomez situation, they will do it in the off-season (or, as per one of my theories, at the quarter pole of next season). But when you hear that Brad Richards and possibly Paul Stastny are in play, you do kinda get Trade Deadline envy. Quality 1-1a C right there, and here we are with Gomer Pyle.(*wistful sigh*)

Yesterday I got all exited with the rumors That Phoenix wanted tt Gomez for Jovo!... well with Sopel coming ... NoT Happening!

well My prayers have been answered... But I was hoping for another D, Sopel will suffice. I don't know much about Dawes but his 200 pounds in a diminute 5'9", Spell Hurt and painful shoulder checks to the hips and if lucky to the kidney/rib section.

Moen needed another physical threat in his line. So Moen can stop playing like a sissy and do what he does best hit, and smack punches without notice

  13. On the face of it, that was a bit unfair to Desharnais, who scored the first goal on an outstanding move, and to my recollection did not make any egregious blunders. Pouliot, though, did cost the team with an irresponsible penalty and deserved benching - maybe his linemates were collateral damage. Ultimately, it's hard to argue with a victory.

was that the iffy hooking call? .. i watched the game with Canucks fans and even they said.. what call was that?!?!?

I dont understand JM ... even if they did f-up.. your taxing the other lines! Ridiculous coaching IMO

  14. Most teams can rally for a while when a key guys gets injured, and I think the Habs have done that at times as well. That said, losing Markov and Gorges for the season is different then losing Crosby/Malkin for a few weeks. The Pens are slowly dropping as the rally wears off and the teams tires. As long as Crosby comes back for the playoffs, they are in a different situation then the Habs, who won't be getting back their top two D.

I think the Habs will make the playoffs, I just don't think they are strong enough to do much damage, and no minor rental is going to change that. If they make a trade that helps next year as well, then I am all for it.

Agreed... and access what we have now and make room and save money so we can sign the best of what we got and not lose them to other teams

  15. HA No problem Mitch!

Speaking of videos... what video was JM looking at, to conclude that we need to focus less on Offense and more on Defense

Is the strategy aimed at getting to overtime with a nil score? "0 to 0"

I understand we need to re-create the trap and get to basics alla JM .... But if thats the deal, will we get a better counter attack??! are we going to augment our puck possession, and hence get better scoring opportunities?!?! I don't know honestly We'll see!

The topic I wanna raise related is worth and the mighty dollar bill.

I heard that they are trying to convince Wade Redden to renounce to his contract and become an UFA.... I think it makes sense, because he will be able to play in the NHL next year... but is Money more important?!?!

Can something similar be done with Gomez? Gomez will get 5 mil next year and then lower the next year and then the next... So theoretically does the League allow for changes in contracts?!?!?

I don't know ... I'm speaking out of my elbow here... could he drop a contract and then be promissed a 5 year deal at 4mil a season for example?

  16. we know which Flames player said that to Cammy? or was the voice offscreen?

Yeah I you could see the player say it... I honestly dont know who that was... probably a 4th liner.. was a big fella with a somewhat smashed nose... Well big is relative cause the camera was focused on Cammy... I'll look for it on youtube now

  17. If picking up Philips now means PG can trade a Dman (phiplips again) in 6 days from now at a higher price or to get a top 6 physical forward then go for it. but its just to close to deadline. I do Think PG is going to do some major changes and it wont be for the good of this season!

Gainey and PG were in the same position when they dealt Craig Rivet... THey are still at the helm, I don't think they will differ in their stance... Boston and Philly are just to improved in comparison.

Only way would be that there is a 100% chance That Markov and Gorges will be back 100% healthy for the last few games of the season.

Then PG could trade to get a top forward
