  1. Alright time to worry again... After surtaxing the Habs D since the departure of Markov and then Gorges... We are now seeing the results of this surtax. Injury prone players (yes all teams have them) Yet I believe our D is definitely among the most worn down...What we have left on the team is balancing on a thread... We have 6 possibly alright players ready to dress on Saturday... Can we risk losing one of them in a game with a rival that has nothing to lose?

scenario one: Habs dont do anything because PG is working the phones with the hopes of adding a body down back in a few days

scenario two: Not sure another GM is willing to Tango and we should call of an emergency D and dress 7 D.

scenario three: assuming Gill can't dress.. we have to play Picard, Weber and Spacek over 20 min each... PK, WIZ and Hammer are given they are all +23min each. Does this not seem critical to you?

I think the Islanders were merciful with us last night... any chance the Laughs are gonna do the same?!??! ahhhmmm NO

  2. Bear in mind with Neil, the Habs would have to overpay beyond what any other team (well, aside from BOS, BUF, and TOR) due to the divisional factor. I'm a proponent of making the best deal possible but most GM's seem hesitant to trade within the division. Clarkson, despite his much lousier contract, would be easier to get I believe.

Oh absolutely... this is fantasy land wishing... No way on earth Ottawa deals Neil to a division rival, knowing how effective he is. Only way we get him would be in a three way deal where Ottawa doesnt suspect the secondary trade

  3. Neil would be my 1st choice. He is a beast and if White keeps up like he did last night then, IMO, I think the Habs would mash up the Boos and give a good lick or two to the flies.

I wouldnt go so far.. but yes its the bare minimum so as not to be pushed around... there must be at least one player in each of the bottom two lines that is ready to go after anyone, without hesitation... the rest is gravy. The same goes for D.. I would go as far as having one in each pairing that can at least put up a fight and not do a Gill or Spacek... Mind you I respect them for what they can and did do.. but we must at least be able to land ONE punch in

  4. General question to the board: Any thoughts on Campbell using his shoulder pad to pummel Pyatt last night? Hitting with a piece of equipment seemed a bit harsh (and gave him extra, very helpful reach)

more like extra padding for his knuckles which helped him land them one after the other endlessly!

I don't care if that game is in the past.. Ferrence and the other dude should get a beating in March Dont care.... Also if you were Tom Pyatt's brother in Phoenix would you go after him if the Bruins play the coyotes? I would

Speaking of aggression... Mubarak has stepped down, Army stepped in

  5. As for Auld, he did what a backup is supposed to do. He is an average goalie, that is why he is happy with starting 10 games per year and collect 20 times what the majority of us make to watch games on an NHL bench.

    Thats awesome!

Okposo won the game doing exactly this

On a 6 foot 5 goalie you try five hole... those are longs legs and it takes longer to close up. At least Thats where i get scored on the most and I'm 6'4"

And okposo scored off the near post (left) 2 feet off the ground (perfect shot) and he's a right shot very hard to stop that!

  6. Everybody is talking about it, can't really ignore it : Zenon Konopka anyone ?

2nd in fights involved in the league, plays 11:00 + per game (so able to take regular shifts) and 6th in the league for faceoffs...

    Pending UFA at 600,000$ ...

Do you pull the trigger ?

Oh hell fight him tonight repeatedly and if he clearly kicks our ass then YES!

  7. Aight, enough. Congrats for being the 2nd ever member on my "ignored users" list.

Take it in strides mate... Nyck's point on PK is fair enough... Yet we may not agree that this 21 year old i ready to assume all he is supposed to... He needs to live and learn... and I think thats what Nyck is aiming at.

Remember I know for a fact that PK had those same issues in Hamilton regarding his mouth and not having the opportunity to always put a fist in there between sentences... But he was getting better at it.

  8. White was fine and had played several games before his recall (skimming the game by game stats, he played 12 games before being called up). He just wasn't doing anything in Hamilton which, if you look at his offensive production, is right in line with what he did when he was sent down after training camp.

Also, scoring of late? He now has 3 goals, which he means he has 1 since his callup. That 1 goal is the only one he has since Nov. 16, spanning 18 games.

Then the only logic in calling up white would be that he gets in front of the net and his linesmen score thanks to his valiant efforts... I'm just fantasying... In any case he better do more then his previous stint!

  9. If we cant beat a 5th string goalie, that will be pretty pathetic. I expect a pretty lopsided win of 5-1 for the Habs. Go Habs Go.

Hopefully White can add more to the line-up this time around.

I heard last night that when White had been brought up earlier he was injured or had just recovered from injury... Are we that desperate we need to bring up injured reserves? or was that failing communication between Trainers and Hamilton coaches..

Anywho White has been scoring of late and should be 100% for tonight... I hope!

  10. I seem to recall somewhere that PG has a previous history of seeking big, strong players - more of a believer in this than Gainey, apparently. I can't confirm that, but if it's true then for sure he is aware of the issue and looking to address it.

Oh lets hope so my man! lets hope so!

  11. I'd be curious as to what PG and JM think. I mean they have to see that the habs have liberties taken against them the last two seasons, and they have not addressed it with player moves. Is it a concern with them, do they see it as a problem?

If they didn't well last night could not be more clear! (the positive aspect of this happening)

I personally think they have always known this... But the question lies (and related to this thread) do they see that as a priority in their views to what the Habs need presently and in the future? The way that JM went to talk to The refs after this game tells me... that JM believes last night game was a fluke and in part mismanaged by the refs... something that shouldn't repeat itself.

If thats the case then I pray for ways to lessen our suffering...

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-12383098

I wonder if this visual therapy to lessen physical pain can be used for emotional pain. Meaning we would still have to watch the Habs play!

  12. To be fair, Price gave Lucic a few cross checks before Lucic went after him - I only noticed that this morning, that explains the 2 minutes he got there. As for the Marchand bump on Wisniewski, I actually thought he let up a bit - still a penalty for a hit on an icing but if Marchand really wanted to hurt him, he'd have hit him a lot harder.

Its not about the gravity of the actions... its the actions themselves... the fact they didnt think twice about whether or not to go through with them... and ultimately the reaction from the Habs! Lucic should of spent the night in the penalty box for fighting.. but he didnt ... he ended the game with a +5 means not only did he have 3 points, but he was on the ice for 2 more!.. Horton had 5 points...

  13. The NHL is gradually regressing back to the point where it was before the lockout, on two fronts: clutch and grab is slowly creeping back in; and outright thuggery is roaring back. The idiots in charge of this league WANT to see Sidney Crosby's career destroyed by pointless headshots away from the puck (just like they WANTED to see Scott Stevens lay waste to all comers with what should have been classified as illegal elbows to the head). They WANT a league of Matt Cookes where the Crosbies and Savards are left to rebuild shattered frontal lobes and Ovechkin constantly has to watch his knees. They want this, in the name of some asinine code of "manliness" where if you cannot withstand a hammer-blow to the skull, you are some kind of pansy.

Mark my words. The golden age of fast, exciting, super-talented hockey we've been enjoying for the past few seasons is drawing to a close.

Having said all of this, I don't think last night's game was the big deal that people are making it out to be. 8-6 is a freak event. The Habs are NOT intimidated by goonery; this group never has been. Philly has their number, not because Philly goons it up, but because Philly's D is just too strong. As for Boston, we've beaten them pretty consistently this year. Last night was a bizarre outlier caused by the Habs completely abandoning the system. Beyond that, this game has ZERO playoff relevance for the simple reason that you hardly ever see fighting in the playoffs anymore. So let the Prunes goon it up. Far more salient to the playoffs is hooking, holding, and stickwork, which even in the immediate aftermath of the lockout were permitted to dominate in the playoffs and continue to do so. I think that, between our aged D and Plekanec's notorious carving-knife of a hockey stick, we can compete effectively in THAT sort of game.

Could we use one or two big, strong power forwards? Absolutely, but we need them because we need people who can crash through hermetic defences, much more than to open a can of whupass on them.

Now I found your post CC... Agreeed entirely with your first column.. its what lead me to write about our Utopian view of what Hockey should be... but is NOT ending up to be

Philly last year had our number but also had their way with us .. no there wasnt a fight... we didnt have anyone to fight with! I'm pretty sure there were fights in the other playoffs not in our playoffs. we don't need nor want PK and Price having to talk or defend themselves... nor Gionta or Cammalleri nor Pleks... G.Laraque gave us that threshold like it or not... which opposing teams didnt pass... Yesterday that threshold was in-existent. That my friend should worry us

  14. I agree with Bar, but chris points out something true... I don't think CC meant it quite like that (havent found his post yet) but pre lock out there were more cheap and lazy hooking and tripping calls... YEsterday there was an Angry team that not only wanted to win but HURT us physically and emotionally... The bruins were even throwing punches when our players had fallen. And More importantly Price and Pouliot held off when they had their players on a disadvantage. Im so going to shout that to my Bruin loving colleague when we meet for lunch... That was very low class crap IMO!

It's now a matter of playoff survival.. lastnight's bruins match is in the past for me... I'm focused on what's needed to bulk up and mitigate the onslaught come the playoffs.

    No more bullying!

  15. If Henry comes up to take on Boston as some are calling for, they'd have to waive him to get him back down there. It'd be hard justifying taking away Hamilton's captain for 1 game of potential retribution. (If you're talking more long term though, that's another story.)

I am of an old timer mentality... I want toughness... Moen and Wiz are not giving enough.. GILL didnt do a thing when PK was getting clobbered... like Bergy said on antichambre Gill was picking up gloves! Pyatt Spacek Hammer etc all got manhandled.. Only Pouliot was able to save face

I've seen Henry land pile-hammers to a player just for skating too close to PK in Hamilton.

I want Henry and another player permanently doing their part. Play Henry as a 7th Dman (forward 5 min on ice) and do PK duty..

Michel Terrien, Mario Tremblay and Bergie were Unanimous. What happened yesterday is UNACCEPTABLE... Do we understand that Horton was after PK not Thornton... HORTON For F sake!!! The rest of the teams are gonna use the same tactic go after Carey Price and PK in the first 5 min and u will have the Habs on their heals.

This is enough we got 19 days to upgrade our toughness...

ENOUGH is ENOUGH, I am ashamed of what happened yesterday... Now I have to go talk to my Bruins loving colleague... FOR F SAKE!!

  16. It's not a written loophole per se, but if the player is deemed to contribute to his own misfortune, the offending player (the suspendee) often gets away with a slightly lesser punishment. In Tyutin's case, the league could potentially have seen that Tyutin did see him coming and put himself in that situation; thus, some blame falls to him. Not saying I agree with it but that seems to be the way suspensions get handed out sometimes.

Yes I know you don't agree with it, I was asking for that exact explanation you gave me.. In dlbalr we trust!

Ok I have to Say this now... Horton coming after Subban?!??! HELLO Pierre Gaultier !!!!!

    Bring Alex Henry up now!!!!!

  17. A few more concussions in the past week.... add Tanguay to the indefinite list of injured. This wont ever stop?

But what even more pisses my utopian view of Hockey...Is a play like what Matt Cooke just did on Tyutin. This play is the embodiment of what has no grounds to exist in Hockey ...in any way you see it...

I once said i wanted Cooke in my team... and not only now do I drastically want to eat my words (add Markov injury) but I believe this player needs to go under psychological evaluation or be sent to an Army barricade to get under the controls of an unmanned plane and go shoot missiles at unarmed civilians. This man has no conscience of what human decency or respect means let alone player ethics... Im sorry but If I ever see him on the street Ill spit on him!

He has all the time in the world... clearly sees Tyutin numbers and shoulder hits while his skates are no longer on the ice.

This man is deranged! or he is an Idiot or both!

  18. Well according to this article (discussion with Hamrlik) He wants to finish his career in Mtl. And he is willing to accept a cheaper contract along with less responsibilities. If PG can find the price we have our bottom 4-6D in the Hammer!

    http://www.cyberpresse.ca/sports/hockey/201102/07/01-4367923-hamrlik-accepterait-un-role-moindre-pour-finir-sa-carriere-a-montreal.php?utm_categorieinterne=trafficdrivers&utm_contenuinterne=cyberpresse_B9_sports_257_accueil_POS1

And another thing that comes from Danslescoullises

is that PG no longer can get Arnott... after the Devs kicked our butt Arnott doesnt see the Habs as a contender

So PG is in talks with:

Pierre Gauthier est en discussion avec les Panthers, les Blue Jackets, les Blues et les Oilers présentement. C’est tout! Les noms de Huselius, Voracek, Frolik, Boyes, Dvorak, Hemsky et Penner sont au cœur des discussions. Selon Coup de balai, les DG des Oilers et des Panthers sont ceux qui appellent le plus Pierre Gauthier.

  19. So frustrated with the refs...why is whenever there is a french canadian ref they try SO hard not to be bias that they actually are bias against the habs. I want a consistantly called game. The game in the 1st period was differently called than the third.

Now we will see if JM is a great coach away from the ice...he may be good at schemes, at X's and O's but I find him completely lacking with the media. If he doesn't call out the refs for the shouddy calls, I will never say he's a great coach. The coachs who use the media to address the refs, get more calls, I tire of JMs passive attitude in regards to the refs.

Despite that, the habs are missing Cammy, but whether it's JMs style or not, but they have to start scoring more.

Agree with ya... he could also say it lightly (the refs uneven reffing) like we were unlucky on the plays and on ref calls... etc

Tha Devils showed us what tight defensive trap is about... JM should watch this gae over and over and show it to our Habs
