Bob made the Gomez deal.
It was before he walked away.
I remember reading a article on how gauthier watched a video tape of mcdonagh at the world Jr. And didn't like what he saw which is why he made the trade. Bob wasn't around the team much that year and walked away after that season. It was a very interesting read.

The last time a Habs GM tried to trade for a #1 center, we got Scott Gomez.
Maybe it's better for Bergevin to just insist Galchenyuk is a centre...
That gm was Pierre gauthier, bob took time away from team after death of his daughter.
Bob made the deal for lecavalier but nhl put a stop to it to save Tampa from decline.

In my honest opinion this organization Has decline in the drafting and development of players since bob gainey left.
when he was here we were in the top 10 in nhl and we had only drafted in top 10 twice. This core is still his core but we have done nothing to add to it.
we don't even have a core of prospects coming up the pipeline that could push for starting jobs.
is it MB or is it Timmins?

I don't really understand the title to this thread. It indicates that the team players are at fault. Hmmmm are they trading drafting etc for each other? If it is the team do we fire 22 guys? I think if the team has a lack of talent that would be the GM's fault or the coach's fault for mishandling them. The current GM has been here for 5 years, the previous coach (le genius) was here for almost 5 years. How long do you give them before you realise they don't have the answers? This is a results based business, we have seen poor results. Now let's be honest Mark down ain't going anywhere, still has a long and I mean long contract, so he is ok for at least another 2 to 3 years. We are dealing with a Molson here not a Pegula.
The point to this topic is we have fired coachs and gm's, but we get the same result every time on the ice. So what I am asking is it time to blow up the core of this team?
-
I think the problem in Montreal that sets us back from the rest of the nhl is the fact that we have to have a French speaking GM and coach.
-
The problem is this is a weak draft year.
-
is it time to blow up the core of this time?
-
Just asking because from what I keep seeing over and over with this organization is they keep firing the GM and/or coach , but the on ice results are always the same.
This is is an organization in trouble if you ask me. Our core guys can't get it done in the playoffs and we have no talent coming up in the farm system. Price is a ufa after next year and Max's contract is up in 2 years.
Do do we keep this team together our blow it up.

Call up the ab make a deal
max + Alex + nat
for
mat and land

Well I guess pk wasn't the problem after all. Trade max, Alex, and plek.
-
I gotta play some cod after this to take out my frustration
-
See you all at the draft....
-
Like I said before, this organization has not address team needs because of regular season success.. But come playoff time our team weakness always come unmasked.
-
The problem is for the past 25 years this organization has fail to address team needs. Come playoff time our weakness become unmasked.

Julien hasn't brought in his own staff yet, so you can't compare the two just yet. We are going to see this off season with who he brings in and the type of players he wants to bring in.
so you won't see a difference in the two tell about around the Christmas break.

I just glad we can put this trade to rest. Let's move on from it all ready.

Pk looked good crying in front of the cameras, They must be filming a documentary on him and are going to use it in it. Lol j/k

Yeah I use to stay home from school and then as I got older and started working I would take this day off every year. But then I realized that habs never do anything big at trade deadline so I stopped taking it off and just get the updates on my phone. But I found that since they moved the deadline nothing big happens any more.

Not too long ago. Feb 21 against the Rangers
Forgot about that Rangers game

True test to see if we truly have turned the corner. When's the last time we beat a team a head of us in the standings.
-
Dead weight on this team is plek, DD and markov. We should of traded them all 4 years ago.
-
I think either one of these guy's could help us a lot if we could get them and they are fowler or if some how we could land him ekman-larsson. What would a package of doan/larsson cost lol?
-
The only Kane I want is the one that plays for the Blackhawks lol.
with no MT we no longer have to look at his type of players. So this years trade deadline could be wide open as to who we go out and get.

No..you are making assumptions and just getting rid of a prima-donna was reason enough.
Does not mean you need to mortgage future for a quick fix.
I am not saying a quick fix , if you can go out and get players that can help you win now and not 4 or 5 years from now you do it. MD is 26 years old, if you can get him and have MD and AG as your centers for the next 10 years you make the trade. You do not over pay for ufa's.
Have we arrived at the point where we need sweeping changes?
