I like the idea of 19 year old draft elegibility. Jr players get another year to develop and undoubtedly get more quality minutes than a 17-18 year old might. And over in the States, high-school kids will be forced to play one year elsewhere rather than get drafted having only played high school hockey..granted most of these kids do play club as well, but still. This extra year of maturity may limit the number of 1st round busts too but who knows?

Ok big picture: If the NHL Draft dropped down to 5 rounds..wouldn't it make it harder to actually "make it" to the big league and thus improve on the quality of play league-wide? What with the elimination of goons and one-dimensional players, do we still need 200+ players picked every year? Or will changing the draft elegibility to 19 year olds be less of a gamble? Just spit-balling here...

Personally I wonder why Markov's name has never been mentioned as a mentor for NB? Job security perhaps? Gotta admire Gonchar for stepping right in and helping a kid out. Don't misinterpret my comments, mind you..i know we still need AM, but in a lesser capacity
-
Gotta admit, it's worth a chuckle seeing Kov ruffle some feathers
-
Ok so Markov stays ( and plays drastically fewer minutes, I would hope!) For future reference, does NB get some quality minutes alongside PK? Clearly AM can't be the workhorse he once was
-
Would you include Markov in any deals?

So, back to the thread topic...What will make the Habs a better club? What move(s) will it take to get us over the hump? Will it be a blockbuster trade? Seeing how there are no top level forwards in UFA(nor do we have the cap space to sign) I suspect a trade is imminent. There are a few contracts that can be moved for picks as well..but that hardly helps us right now. Any realistic trade ideas? Please note: No team in the WORLD will accept our garbage for their star, so please refrain from the outrageous proposals

Any word on JDL's wrist rehabilitation? It's been nearly a month since the surgery..
-
I agree..plus drug tests are approximately $225 per individual, and you-know-who will end up paying for it.. So that seems illogical as well.
-
Just a thought Lovett: What's your opinion on drug-testing welfare recipients? Is it a violation of their rights, or something that may become a mandatory obligation?

MB has surrounded himself with legitimate hockey guys, so there's no wonder we're improving every year and are actually quite good. We're drafting better, making better moves upstairs, and if we can be patient enough, we'll turn the corner and become perennial contenders. I honestly believe those shitty draft years are far behind us and have complete trust the new regime. Now, we have to move a few guys, maybe add a bulldog or two, and somehow trade for that big fish first liner. I can't wait for the draft because I think something huge is going to go down.
-
There are far too many guys that have proven to not have been ready (ala Tinordi) However, if one can play, they can play. But that's extremely rare as an 18-20 year old. If Tinordi were a righty, he might've beaten Pateryn to the lineup, but that's not happening now regardless of left/right. IMO Pateryn has earned the #3RD spot. The spot that Tinordi couldn't steal was Emelin's..<---Until he is dealt away, I don't see a place in the top 6-7 for Tinordi. Maybe JT's being shopped around by MB? I think he'll stick with the club this season in the 7-8 spot and his Father will bitch for a trade. Don't get me wrong, I do hope he becomes that #2 LD badass, but i'm losing faith in him
-
Yes I agree with you on both Eller and PAP but that list of players is only those of which I thought could be in play. We have to move contracts if we expect to land a big fish for 1st line.
-
No to Soderberg. From the sounds of things, MB is trying to wheel n deal for a Ryan O'Reilly type first liner. Soderberg is more of a secondary move after the big splash
-
Chiarelli is one of the few GM's to have built a perennial contender..he'll help for sure. Julien is out, so I guess I was wrong about him.
-
Ok so the Petry deal is done...what to do next? If MB is to acquire an offensive first liner, atleast two players have to be moved. Pleks, DD, PAP, Emelin, Eller, and yes I'd include Markov, as possible players on the block..also prospects and picks. Any two of these guys, a prospect, and 1st rd pick might get us that bell cow we've craved for years
-
Damn straight, KoRP!
-
Hedman will win multiple Norris trophies..mark my words
-
MB: Draft a forward please!
-
Don't be surprised when Chiarelli brings Claude Julien to town and they add a few pieces and turn it around. Trust me, they're closer than most ppl here think they are.
-
Chiarelli has witnessed what Emelin can do..maybe we can swindle a 2nd or 3rd round pk outta Edmonton?...and by swindle, I mean dump him and his contract
ps: Emelin would be a fool to not waive his NTC so he can go to EDM. Any organization with that amount of young talent AND drafting McDavid, is certainly close to becoming something special...whoa
-
Ok this needs to go away. Might as well bring Larry Robinson back to mentor Tinordi.
-
I wouldn't say dead weight. Pleks has trade value. DD might get us a 5th round pick
-
Maybe we can just play in the offensive zone and physicality on Defense won't be necessary

There are far fewer exceptions to the rule. It has become an anomaly for an 18 year old to make it in the nhl. If a player can play at 18, then you make him the exception as an early entry or something. Everyone else waits until they're 19
