does anybody else think that prust still isn't 100% and will not be unless he gets that shoulder operated on? there have been long stretches where you can tell he's playing in pain. atleast now there are more formidable players ready(?)to fill in for him. sekac, de la rose, andrighetto could take advantage here
-
it would be nice to see them both get a serious look. but therrien will probably give them 3 or 4 shifts then pin them to the bench.Should be super competition for bottom 4 winger spots.
Does dela Rose have a legit shot at opening day spot?
Where will Sekac line up, on the 2nd line with Captain Plekanec?

anyone else been to the show? didn't think so..kovi has, and probably knows more than we do as to what it takes to get the huge contract. we may not like what he says, but he is entitled to an opinion. I personally didn't think the highest paid mtl canadien of all time would be a defenseman though. I would've preferred it be a legitimate 50 goal man
-
right?! I never had any use for jg..I think don was supposed to write that jg had 29 turnovers per month. top defensive defensemen in the league my ass. wet-noodle is perfect!I never understood all of the Gorges' love. He contributed nothing to the offense. Every time he had the puck at the point, he dumped the puck into the same corner. Every damned time!!!
He averaged .18 points per game not nearly enough for a top-4 defensemen. Unlike Emelin, or even Murray, he didn't bring a physical element.
For those who care about fancy stats, he was no prized pig there either. He was a loser, but he was "our loser." That's the extent of the logic behind the Gorges' Craze. He was white bread. To think that some wanted that wet noodle to be the Captain...
-
yep, backes/perry anydayYes, Vanek = Kovalev and soft soft players, skilled for sure but lazy floaters. I would much prefer a Backes/Perry-type anyday.
-
Josh Gorges is easily replaceable. anybody ever realize why he blocks so many shots? Incase you haven't noticed, it's because the opponent always has the puck when he's on the ice! the guy doesn't do anything special in particular. weaver plays a similar game, except that he isn't a turnover machine...and tom gilbert is a definite upgrade on jg as well. watch 'mr captain" get exposed in buffalo much like komisarik did in Toronto. I've always wanted a big badass physical defenseman and everytime I looked, it was jg that had to go. surely another cheerleader will emerge in the dressing room.
-
ok then how about the david desjarnais effect? the entire first line does squat in the playoffs?
-
joe thornton would turn max into a 50 goal man easily! we need a true #1 center
-
thank you Frankie B, but it's time to part ways. good luck with your next stop..ahl player/coach perhaps?
-
turtlenecks and head snaps..really?! haha..give him the ''c''

new topic:
how will the atlantic division teams finish in 2015? with all their signings/trades and goaltender status, has tampa bay become an instant favorite? does boston have enough defensively to stay at the top? can mtl get some consistent scoring from the forwards to come out of the division again?
-
"what, another American?!" I can hear the bitching already..pacioretty would be a great captain regardless of nationality. plekanics would be my first choice however
-
I'm still saying if it goes to team vote we will see Prust as captain.
That said, Bergevin's comments make me think we will just see no captain.
if prust had played 75+ games for each of his seasons in mtl, i'd say hell yes to his captaincy! but that damned shoulder keeps him on the sidelines so often
-
double edged sword..on one hand you've got to feed the rookies to the wolves and handle the repercussions..on the other you're trying to win games and the vet may have more patience handling certain situations. therrien does love his vets, but at some point you have to say f-it and give the kids their big break
-
you can't force the captaincy on someone. markov didn't want it when he was healthy..and now, while the captain is addressing the media after each icetime, markov will be having a 45 minute icebath. plekanics is a solid choice, but everyone has him being shipped out at the deadline. so it may come down to subban by default. i'm ok with that.
-
they said it when subban was being benched last season..and everytime u turn around someone is saying how "it's a business first"..crazier things have happened
-
with Galchenyuk and Gallagher in the final year of their respective contracts, see if they see much pp time this season...
-
haha he was a creampuff! excellent on the draw too..and not much of anything else, unfortunately
-
exactly, the rangers were just sitting back hoping we'd destroy each other.
-
He looked fine in the playoffs on Plekanec's wing against the Rangers. Heck he was one of our best forwards.
Galchenyuk was our best forward in the ecf, but don't forget he missed the boston series. that was a fn rough series both ways. it's no secret that there was little gas left during the rangers series.

How much stronger was yannic Perrault than most players??
it's not like I said strength was the #1 factor to winning draws. hand/eye coordination and technique are much more important. and how am I supposed to know how strong Perrault was compared to the other nhl centers?
-
great analogy..faceoffs and bunting are incredibly similar. they both require will, hand/eye coordination, and technique. i'd say strength is much more vital to winning a faceoff than it is to properly lay down a bunt however.
-
I doubt Galchenyuk will see the puck as much as he'd like while playing with Plekanics... that line is always matched up against the opponents top line. Eller and Bourque may be more suitable linemates.
-
good point. thank goodness carey price has nerves of steel and isn't afraid to tell media + fans to chill out
Proposed 2014-2015 Lineup

yeah, I hear ya. I also think bournival should legitimately be in the lineup regardless of prusts status. and I agree with giving prust one last year to determine whether or not he's durable enough to play his game. however, I think each team only gets two buyouts and we've bought out gomez and kaberle already. and wouldn't bournival and weise give the 4th line a ton of wheels?
