  1. Don't you guys think it's time to get over the Bourque bashing. he has a bad season and a terrific playoffs. Let's see which Bourque will show up next year.

There were a lot of habs players stinking it up at times all year.

I agree, there are far too many complaints about bourque. yes, I know his regular season was awful, but he was terrific in the post season. it was nice to see he and eller step up in playoffs! keep it up boys

  2. If Eller developed consistency I could see him definitely being a 60 point center. 60 points last year made you Top 20 in NHL centers. Unless scoring goes up in the NHL a 60 point center is a first line center. For comparison sake, Desharnais this season even with the first quarter slump was 32nd among all centers. Eller was 35th among centers in 2012-2013.

The situation with Galchenyuk for me is this. Let's say you had to make two choices for Galchenyuk this season:

Choice A: Galchenyuk plays top six LW, logs an average of 14-15 minutes of even strength ice time a game along with always being the PP2 left winger. Therrien plays him against top competition all season long, especially on the road. Galchenyuk comes out with not exceptional numbers but decent for a second line left winger.

Choice B: Galchenyuk plays third line center, logs an average of 12 minutes of even strength ice time a game but is taken off PP because he can't win an offensive zone faceoff as well as Desharnais or Plekanec. Therrien plays him against soft competition at home which allows him to score a lot but he gets out-grinded by lines on the road. Galchenyuk comes out with strong numbers for a third line center but we all knew he didn't face the kind of competition he was facing last season when playing on Plekanec's wing.

Which is the better route for Alex?

Same. I think Parenteau would be really good for those two since he's a good setup man.

anxious to see parenteau play...maybe with max, maybe alex, either way, i'm convinced he's an improvement!

  3. this may sound a bit optimistic but we might already have the missing winger in the system. who's to say that sekac or de la rose can't surprise everyone and step in? they're both big, strong, fast and have been playing against men in respectable pro leagues. mb should give them a shot before making any moves out of desperation, like trading plekanics. he's our most valuable center who can shut down anyone in the league and seems to score 20+ goals every year..some of which are huge game-changers. that type of leadership just may land him the "c" this year...then it's turtlenecks for everyone!

  4. I think the rope you talk of is just armchair GM noose. don't think Mgmt is as down on him as many seem to be.

We should find out whats what with Eller by end of week arbitration date. I would like to see a 4 year- $12m deal (but just a wild stab, realistic??)

after the playoff eller had (and yes I think he was our top forward) I think that's a fair contract 3 mil per sounds about right

  5. Always liked Sean Couturier, how bout Wayne Simmonds for Beaulieu and a 1st, as Flyers are over the cap?

always liked Simmonds..we'd probably have to move a forward in return...I wouldn't trade beaulieu, with markovs age, we should keep nb. maybe a reasonably priced guy like dd or bourque and a 1st for Simmonds? then of course if we move dd, that forces galchenyuk to 1st line c, and I don't think he's ready yet. bourque and a 1st for ws, done

  6. man I hope that breeze-bys resigning only means that he's moving on to other opportunities. i'd hate to find out that he knows something that we don't? as soon as I read this, the wheels started turning.."dammit, is it the subban negotiation?" "the young defensemen coming up the pipeline?" I have a feeling something big is about to go down, and brisebois may not like it..

  7. One must wonder what Montreal ends up trying:

    Markov - Subban

    Beaulieu - Gilbert

or the rumours are true that they want Gilbert and Subban together on a PP.

Also I can't be the only one who just because this is the Habs I pronounce Gilbert not "Gill-Bert" but "Jill-Bear"

subban + markov will most likely play 1:20-1:35 of the pp..beaulieu /gilbert will get the crumbs..

  8. I think Habs Mgmt agree with most and will see if Beaulieu can play a regular shift this year.

Tinordi was doing OK in limited minutes, then given a regular shift for a game or two, seemed to struggle, his icetime melted down to 9minutes and off to Hamilton he went and was very quiet for a month or two before he got his confidence back and starting playing more physical.

Ristolainen! Might as well ask for Zadorov, however, unless Mike Milbury or Doug Maclean is hired by Sabres it aint happening.

    But, would be sweet deal!

I agree..Ristolainen is buffalos new stud defenseman, they'd never consider that trade.

  9. does anyone else think that plekanics may become the next captain? I wouldn't mind. i'm actually pulling for prust, but it's hard to put that kind of responsibility on someone who's out of the lineup so often. I think that, when healthy, prust provides leadership much like a dustin brown in la....but that damn shoulder!

  10. 32 is old? $5.9 is expensive for a proven top 6 forward with his track record, being very picky.

Got zero to do with desparation, where does that come from?

Asset management and winning a cup is what it boils down to.

Many different ways to go about it.

hey don, what you have to remember is that sharp, although skilled and decorated, is 31, with 2 years left on a contract...guess where he's going after that? that's right, back to Chicago as an ufa.

  11. Would you trade McDonough as a prospect for Sharpe?

I hated the Gomez trade, because I hated trading a big, physical defensive prospect for Gomez who was at the time a 60 point player with a huge contract at the wrong side of 30. Back than, I constantly argued with those who pointed to Gomez's cup rings, skill, speed and I said it than, and I'll say it again. I wouldn't have been willing to move Higgins for Gomez, unless the NYR were also sending us their first round pick for off loading a horrible contract.

I see Sharpe as a 65 point player on the wrong side of 30, and see Beaulieu as a big, skilled, smooth skating prospect, who is around the same age as McDonough was. No way I move Beaulieu for Sharpe. I'd move him for grigerenko, but not for a 31 or 32 year old who just had a career year.

hmph, beaulieu for grigorenko eh? now that's worth discussing..it might take a sweetener as well, but that's an intriguing swap

  12. Crippling is a bit much and I don't see it like that at all, but you could be somewhat correct, but got to roll the dice sometimes.

All I really disagreed with is trading couple spare parts for a Rental (Vanek) vs trading for an borderline All-Star forward for 3 more years, not even same ballpark (as I see it).

But, by my count I also see Habs with 15 forwards (if count Sekac), of course depth is nice but cant have 4 players in pressbox (with 7th-d also) all year can you?

don, are u even old enough to remember the chelios for savard fiasco? that trade had a laaaasting affect on the organization in the most negative way possible! chelios went on to win a few Norris trophies, several Stanley cups, and played almost 20 more seasons! what the hell did we get outta savard? zip..so believe me, because it's the last time i'm going to comment on it : the habs are done making "quick fix" deals. you don't sacrifice the future for somebody that may give you a year or 2.

  13. I agree in general, but I'm a bit leery of everyone's default third line (Bourque, Eller, Sekac). Not one player in that configuration can be considered in any respect reliable. The rest of the lineup looks pretty solid, assuming that the adjusted D is equal to or better than what we saw last season.

sekac and plekanics wouldn't be a bad idea..the kids gotta learn how to effectively play in his own end..and who better to learn from right?

  14. You get Sharp you get a first rate first line forward.

To acquire a first rate, first line forward like Sharp, you need to give up something the Chicago Blackhawks would want more than Patrick Sharp. What do they want? Cap space and to keep being a Cup contender. What does a team have to provide them? A player or collection of players with less of a cap hit but the potential to be what Sharp was to Chicago.

I also think Sharp will still have two years playing at first rate, first line quality before dropping off.

I'd have zero issue letting go of Eller to get Sharp, but I'd be weary on Eller and Beaulieu.

eller will give you another 10 years..and a smooth skating defenseman like beaulieu, maybe 20..granted we don't know exactly how good either player will become, but i'd be a little more patient with both. and its quite possible that sharps better days may be behind him. scott gomez had similar numbers and age when we traded for him. lets not make that mistake again..you don't make trades just for trades sake.

  15. any trade involving our future for Patrick sharp is ludicrous. he may have another 78 point season...and then what? a slow and steady decline. you just don't sell the farm for a 31 year old that's had one decent season. no thanks bud, and besides, we're already pretty set at lw.
