He had the opportunity to prevent Kovalchuk from backchecking, and Saku could have gone in uncontested. Instead, he stopped skating at the blueline, and then when Koivu was forced to drop the puck to him, he couldn't control it. That's not a first line player. Put him back on the checking line where he contributes. To prevent a player from backchecking, would that not be called interference. In defence of Bulis as far as not skating how did he end up in front of the net so as to take the pass and if I remember correctly the pass was kind of behind him or in his feet, can't really remember which. RobRock
When Koivu got the blue line, Bulis was between he and Kovalchuk. While Kovalchuk has more speed, if Bulis had kept skating, Ilya would have had to get around Bulis in order to Koivu, either by trying to skate ahead of Bulis or by moving back around him. Moving back around wouldn't have helped, so Kovalchuk would have had to skate in a straight line ahead instead of diagonally. By the time Kovalchuk could have reached Koivu, he would already have been in on net. Bulis wouldn't have had to hook him or hold him or anything. All he had to do was keep skating straight to the net. He did follow up on the play to get the pass, but he seemed a little surpised when Koivu sent it back to him. He tried to kick it up to his stick, but he kicked it more to the corner. [Edited on 2005/11/25 by RobRock]
theflower
firstly ribs is not a veteran, second i agree he gets beaten to the puck all the time, 3rd since when is a 2nd line like -14 or sumthing total, they are killing us. that stat alone says they dont score enuff to be a 2ndline cause a good 2ndline would have a -1 or +1 at least. watching ribs skate slowly and lose the puck over and over just makes me sick !!! He has to go if you are any kind of habs fan with any kind of brain this....is a no brainer and frankly with the talent we have, letting him go for a 2nd or 3rd rounder would be a steal for us. on a scale of 1-10 ribs is the 2nd worst player on our team next to dags, now if we could bundle those 2 out to anywhere for a bag of chips our youth would more than easily fill that hole. ch for life
You know im all about getting rid of ribs but with his point totals last year and his moderate pointage this year..not to mention his youth I really think that there is a complete idiot GM out there just waiting to give up way to much to aquire him..All we need is the type of guy who makes trades just because of a bad game or gives away draft picks for useless and overpriced hacks or maybe trades up in the draft to get a really great goalie and then trades him away for a bag of pucks... If only ... oh wait..Mike milbury...if ever there was a bad trade waiting to happen...
ch for life
Either that or you could just pray every night real hard that Rejean Houle becomes the Next GM of the Capitals.
