  1. To be fair to Gomez (lord Byron knows I've defended that Alaskan moose more times than a man should), he had 33 goals and 84 points on a very good New Jersey Devils team in 05-06 (the year everyone's scoring was up), and his pre-UFA season he had 13 goals, 60 points in 72 games. His first new season with the New York Rangers (the year they "made a splash" with Gomez and Drury) he put up 70 points in 81 games. The next year he dropped to 58 in 77 and New York felt they had to trade him. He ended up putting similar numbers in Montreal with 12 goals and 59 points in 78 games, so overpaid but still a Top 30 centre. I think it's often forgotten he put up 14 points in 19 playoff games that year, which the Habs haven't had a centre do better than since (Eller had 13 points). The next year (10-11) his numbers plummeted hard (38 in 80) and only played 38 games in 11-12 before getting the buyout. He proved he could still play in the right conditions in 14-15 back with the Devils doing 34 points in 58 games and should have retired there but tried to be a journeyman with St. Louis and Ottawa (remember Gomez with the Sens? Last season? I certainly don't) so instead of ending his career like a hero in New Jersey he'll probably try to join some team again. Hopefully he does the sign and retire with NJ.
