I think most Habs fans would love to get Sid. Im not sure if hes even available and what the price would be if he was though.
If they even trade him, The Pens will also let Sid pick his destination, and he might want to play with MacKinnon.
If he indicates he wants Montreal, you have to pursue it. Of course i want a plan B though cause it seems so unlikely.
Sure, most Hab fans would love to get Sid. No doubt. If available (big if) what would the Habs be willing to give up? Cost would be steep. Sid had another great year but he turns 38 in the summer and when age catches up with athletes it can happen quickly. I would bet because he does take good care of himself that he has another good year, maybe 2.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: God love Josh Anderson.
You said it best a couple years ago when you called him a "high speed bulldozer". I thought that was a perfect description.

Also ignores the fact that Bergevin could have let Armia walk and extended Lekhonan.
Let's move past the Bergevin years, he also got us a great 1C.
Happy Hughes is the GM, not every move he makes will work out but he has us certainly headed in the right direction.

The name thats out there now, and he wont be cheap, especially since its inside the division, but id be willing to pay quite a lot for?
Dylan Larkin
It seems that he and Yzerman arent seeing eye to eye on the Yzerplan. Recently Larkin has made some comments calling out Yzerman for not getting them help at the deadline to make the playoffs. Yzerman pointed at Montreal and basically said they didnt make trades either and Suzuki and the Habs core stepped up but Larkin and the Wings core didnt.
If hes on the market, Im very interested in him as the number 2 C.
Larkin would obviously be tremendous, great skater still only 28, cost would be substantial. Almost a 1C.

It is not a simple binary decision, there are related variables.
Exactly, and I am sure Hughes will make the right decision after doing some regression analysis.

He would be an outstanding 3C, though. We'd need Evans or Kapanen to take care of 2C. Risky, though not totally without merit.
He would be an astounding 3C but that doesn't solve the 2C problem. Evans is not a 2C and I doubt Kapanen will be either. I have always been a Bo Horvat fan if Hughes wants to go the trade route but he won't come cheap. However the Islanders are maybe looking to rebuild and want to shed some salary.

I think Jake O'Brien is an intriguing target at center ice but the Habs would likely have to move up in the draft to get him. Seems like a phenomenal playmaker. I wonder what Commandant thinks of Jake O'Brien.

But Habs lost mostly due to inexperience and a weaker lineup overall, not reffing.
Agree 100%

Yes. This is a lot better than Kucherov insulting the team after beating it in the Cup Finals. Gracious, old-school comments by Wilson.
Absolutely, or Lucic acting like a crybaby when shaking hands. It should be easy to have some class when you win but Kucherov took the low road, he can play golf now.
I loved the interaction between Wilson and Anderson when shaking hands. Two warriors with great respect for each other.

#16 and #17 for Mathew BarzalThat type of trade wouldn't surprise me. I expect Hughes to be active.

I mean, from this spot in the interview, he was pretty positive about the Habs. He had one sentence earlier where he said "they're going to play kind of cheap" and I think any player on any team could easily say the same about their opponent. Nowhere does he refer to the Habs as cheap shot artists.
He handled the question with some class, I would take Tom Wilson on my team any day of the week.

I also see no reason to change the HC at this point.

I think the defense just needs to grow and develop. It will anchored buy Guhle and Hutson for years to come. They will have a decision to make on Matheson as he is a UFA after next year. I have no problem with Sammy.
Biggest need is a 2nd line center.

What draft spot are they sitting, 17th?
What is the Flame pick?
The Habs pick is 17, Flames pick will be 16 unless they win the lottery then we get Florida's pick.

Not many posts here lately as the focus was on the playoffs. Unless Calgary gets incredible lucky with the ping pong balls, the Habs will be drafting 16 and 17. I would bet Hughes trades at least one of those picks.

A great development year! They battled! The future looks good. Hopefully they can find a spot for Savard somewhere in the organization.

I still think the Habs are going to make a game of this. They won't quit.

With all due respect to a 7th round pick who has build a solid NHL career ... I %^*&$#@ hope so.
Yup, well said. Demidov seems to have a great attitude, read stories before where scouts said they thought he has a much better attitude than Michkov.

That is very interesting, didn't think Tkachuk would be on it. Certainly expected Corey Perry and Maroon to be on it. Definitely shows that there is a whole lot more than just speed when evaluating a player.

Struble was playing well coming off his stint with Hutson and honestly, I think the coaches trust him a lot more as he's less volatile. (Granted, his ceiling isn't as high as Xhekaj's but Struble is the safer play of the two.)
I would agree with this statement. Struble is the safer choice and less likely to make a big mistake. You don't need your 3rd pairing to be spectacular, steady and safe will do.

Yes, the playoffs are all about winning and less about development. You need to give your 3rd pairing some ice time so you don't burn out your top 4 but they need to earn it.

I'm not saying to give up on him.
I'm just saying play Struble.
Of course if Carrier is hurt both will likely play.I know you aren't saying give up on him. Everybody progresses at a different rate and sometimes big guys and defensemen take longer to reach their potential. I remember a big bruising winger the Habs had who was about Arber's age or maybe a little older when they traded him, ended up scoring 50 goals 3 times with Philly. Maybe a really bad comparison, just saying it's still early I think there is still a lot of potential there. I get the frustration with some of the bad decision making and the playoffs are a bad time to make mistakes.

Its 100% toolbox. He is big and strong, skates well, has a huge shot. I mean its all there to be a very good defenceman. The decision making can baffle at times though.
Agreed, it's because of those tools that you don't want to give up on him too early. Of course you can't wait forever but if he can improve his decision making then you have a really important piece on this team.

I hope he signs an extension too so he will be a Hab for years to come. What a terrific young man and a fantastic building block for the team.
Lane Hutson is already back on the ice in Montreal
