Keep in mind this argument is about re-signing Danault or Tatar or Armia.  To me you re-sign Danault because centres are hard to find.  I don't have faith in Poehling or anyone else in the pipeline right now, but Suzuki, KK, Danault, and Evans will be excellent centre depth on the NHL team for a long time and Danault at 27 years old is by far the oldest of the bunch so it can be good for a while.

That makes sense to me. There is no way they can sign all 3 and doubtful they can sign 2 of them with Suzuki and KK expected to get raises in the next couple years.  I see Caulfield hopefully filling one of the spots on the wing at a much cheaper price.

Hopefully they remember the Red Wings debacle last year and take the Sens seriously.

You got that right. Surely Ottawa isn't as bad as they have looked so far?  Their goaltending has been real bad. I just have this terrible gut feeling that Ottawa will come up with their best effort of the year tomorrow night.

But, Weber deal was "bit" more spirited debate than Pacioretty one...that is for sure.

Beloved Subby vs oft times hated 35g scoring Capt. Pacioretty.

True, I remember a lot of debate on the Weber trade, many differing opinions. I think most here saw the Pacioretty trade as likely a good one even though we had no idea how good Suzuki would turn out to be.

Imagine thinking we lost that trade

I had serious doubts about that trade at the time as I didn't like the age difference (4 years).  Weber has turned out to be a rock on defence  and a leader while PK seems more interested in other things than hockey. Maybe not Bergevin's best trade but a good one. I think we will look back and say the Pacioretty trade was be the best one as Suzuki will be a stud for a long time.

Can't figure out why Lucic didn't get a roughing call for punching Sanderson in the face right at the end ... send a message refs

As for Perry, don't think it is a matter of whether he is good enough it is more can he play that well full-time without fatigue setting in

Typical of Lucic to send a cheap shot when the game is over and it doesn't matter.  Perry does look good, he is hungry.

Great game so Far! I love the pass that Perry sent to Gallagher for the 1st goal! Also love the fact that we have two more PP goals and another SH goal. Unbelievable!

It's ridiculous how many short handed goals they have but their penalty killers can snipe. This rate can't continue but you take it when you can get it.

    Exactly

Add in the fact that he shows up to camp in less than ideal physical condition year after year reminds me a lot of Hudon

I would disagree with that statement. The year he suffered a concussion in training camp he came to camp in great shape, people on this site noted how "jacked" he looked when they saw pictures of him, he had a rigorous off season program. His problem was the attitude after being sent down. That's on him.

  8. 11 minutes ago, tomh009 said:

Yeah, the difference in attitude (after being sent to Laval) was like night and day between Poehling and Kotkaniemi. One of them figured out that he could learn something there, the other one didn't clue into that for a while.

Agree, Poehling went to training camp with high hopes and expectations, was actually having a good camp and then suffered a concussion, never got it going after. Certainly he didn't go to the AHL with the right attitude. I am just saying that it can be dangerous to give up on a guy who just turned 22 that has some talent. Everybody matures at a different rate. Not everyone matures as quickly as a guy like Brendan Gallagher.

With respect ... he showed A FLASH of brilliance ... one night ... and little since ( 1g, 1a in 27 NHL games last season ... he was 21st on the Rocket last season in points/game).

With respect, I would still say flashes, was tournament MVP and best forward  at the World Juniors in 2019 where he scored a natural hat trick against Sweden. When he went to the AHL he pouted a bit, that's why I say he still has some maturing to do. He is still young.

If we could get a first for Poehling I’d jump for sure.

He will struggle to make 4th line and not sure he will ever be much more.

Poehling just turned 22, has shown flashes of brilliance, perhaps has some maturing to do. I would have to get a pretty decent return to give up on him.

Friedman is saying leafs are looking for a forward and with the quarantine rules trading in Canada makes a lot of sense.

I wonder if we might be a fit? Maybe Poehling?

His market value is low right now, way too early to give up on him. Still think he has a lot of potential.

One of the biggest draw of NYC is the division it’s normally in.  Nearly all cities in that division, which they play frequently, are mere hours from their home city.  So they could play a road game in New Jersey, then Philadelphia, then Pittsburgh in 6 nights and be at home with their family every night.  That is why that division is one of the best in the league, it’s an attractive perk for players.

As for California, Arizona and Florida, the weather is warm all year around.  That is a perk for players.

Good points. I could use some warm weather just about now.

That post was the second one, after he also called H29 a douche in another thread.

I might have let it go on its own, but doing that twice, i thought it should be said.  We can all discuss stuff and still be adults.

Yup, all it takes is one person throwing insults and the board can go downhill quickly. The insult on H29 was totally uncalled for.  Think of how boring these boards would be if we all had the same opinion on everything.

Disagree. NYC is right up there with LA as the last places I would want to live. Cool to visit, horrible to live.

I think players look for different things when it comes to the city they want to live in. Cities like NYC and LA might seem exciting to some but not so exciting to others. For a kid that grew up in a small town on the prairies, Edmonton might seem like a cool place. For a kid that grows up in the US, Edmonton might be perceived as a cold wasteland. Most players make enough money that they can live in a good part of whatever city they live in which makes it easier. A guy who is married with kids might also look at it differently.

There's a difference between "not being particularly attractive to UFAs" and having a clear pattern of your own players wanting out of the organization and city. Columbus has not been able to hold onto its own talent - which is not a problem that other "middling" markets have experienced to the same degree. So something distinctive is going on there.

I agree too, a lot of it has to do with the organization. In everyday life one of the main reasons people leave their job is because of their boss and whether they feel the organization is a good fit. I don't think the city itself plays a big part in players decisions although it likely  does with some players.

I went in 2001 and 2004 and then every year from 2007-2011, as part of annual photography road trip though Yellowstone, the Tetons, arches, canyonlands, arches, Zion national parks, monument valley slot canyons and Sedona . That southern Utah, northern Arizona region is a hiker and photographers dream region.

only made 4 trips in last 10 years a d was planning one for last fall, before Covid hit.

I hiked in Zion 2 years ago, stunning, did Bryce Canyon before that, incredible, a lot more I have  to see. The Huntsman Games should be back on this October so will be out there again in October. It is a dream region for hiking and photography. I had no idea it was so beautiful down there. I need to get out more.  I am getting a little off topic. My apologies.

I’m into photography and that northern Arizona/southern Utah region is my favourite region in North America.  And I’ll take the heat to the deep freeze in Winnipeg or Edmonton any day.

I totally agree about Utah, started going there every October 7 years ago to play in a slo-pitch tournament and fell in love with the state. So many beautiful parks. been through a lot of the US and Utah is definitely my favourite place.

It’s another case of having great depth. Why trade him? One injury on the blue line and he slots right in.

Totally agree, the don't need another 3rd round draft pick and they don't need any more depth at forward. Depth at defence is a good thing. They play a lot of games in a short period of time.

The more I watch Evans the more impressive I am with him. He's going to be a very good checking center in this league.

Absolutely!!  I have been so impressed by Evans. Not bad for a guy taken 207th in the draft (only 210 guys were drafted). Obviously a guy who had to work for everything he's got.  Goes to show that a little time in the minors is a good thing.

This was the one rumoured PLD trade I didn't want to happen ... Scheifele, PLD and Stastny as their 1C-3C is true DEPTH at centre.

That is an excellent group at centre, certainly one of the best.  A lot better than their group of wingers.
