I don’t think he is a fit but 2008-2009 was his first year pro with 82 gp so he’s already had a long career so your point is incorrect regarding his style of play leading to short carrer.

he is 11-12 years in already, that ship has sailed.
again, I don’t want him on Habs but to use that generic phrasing is just incorrect.

Hes actually got an impressive amount of GP/season so his style of play has not kept him out of action.  Years are gonna catch up to all players, him included.

My apologies for using generic phrasing. My point is that guys that play the style of a Simmons or a Gallagher (I admire both players) are generally not nearly as effective when they reach their early to mid thirties. I think there has been concern expressed on this board about giving Gallagher a big long term contract for that reason although he probably deserves it.

They  haven’t and yes your right,  no guarantees here .. discussion is a bunch of top defenceman prospects we’ve gathered up nicely... We are now probably rated top 1 or 2  in the league is this department.

for anyone who knows me personally I’m a 1/2 cup empty guy, but I’m feeling 1/2 cup full today. I want to win a Stanley cup soon! Living in Edmonton and winning the cup before Mcdavid, wound be amazing for Hab fans in E town

    It would be amazing indeed!

Scoring winger is not how I would describe what Simmons is today.

That's true. I would have loved to have the Wayne Simmons of 5 years ago but the Wayne Simmons today has a lot of miles on him. His style of play does not translate to a long career.

Can't help but look at the guys we would have got at #9, Rossi or Perfetti, and think how excited Tony Maranaro sauce would have been.

A defensive defenseman isn't the most exciting 1st round pick, but hopefully he was the BPA and becomes a solid NHLer.

I think his stats suggest that he is more than just a defensive defenceman although his defence and physical play seems to be his strong suit.

And overstocked on paper, doesnt mean any of Brook, Struble, Harris, Juulsen, or Fleury will actually become a NHL regular.

Of course not,  overstocked means enough of these guys develop to provide the Habs with a surplus of good young defenceman. And if they don't develop then Guhle may end up looking like a great pick that fills a need. There are no guarantees here.

    What CC said.

They went "best player available" and pick really had little (or nothing) to do with current roster.

Best player available is the way to go. By the time Guhle is NHL ready  (3 years?) who knows what the Habs biggest need will be. As has been mentioned before, if you are over stocked in 1 position then you can always trade and there will always be a market for good young defenceman.

Not a fan of the trade, Hope I'm wrong.

That's how I feel,  hope i am wrong. Perhaps guys in the dressing room feel different. It's always a different view looking from the outside. I liked Max, he likely had some maturing to do but he wanted to be in Montreal.

No I am not saying an elite player but a star player, there's a difference.  For a team that needs a 2nd line center and a winger with speed that can kill penalties Domi and Byron are it. Plus you add the 16th overall pick and you can get a good return for it.  Is that going to get you an elite player no probably not. But it will get you a good star player which would be an upgrade to the team.

I think you would have to be more specific before a judgement can be made. Did you have anyone in mind?

    37. Only two years older than Weber is now.

And six years younger than Chara is now. :)

I don't think Petry has had any major injuries and he is such a smooth skater that he won't deteriorate as quickly as others.  Plus he loves Montreal and wants to be here. A good signing.

Hockey30 speculates it is because the Jets asked for

    1. KK or Suzuki; and
    2. Romanov or Caufield; and
    3. the Habs #1 (16th overall)

That is not an unreasonable ask for a elite goal scorer ... but I wouldn't make that trade

Laine is an elite goal scorer but that is too much to give up. If you give up Suzuki then who would pass Laine the puck?

From a real source very close to the team

Max Domi will be traded from team. described as a "Me first" player. Disliked by both Ducharme and Claude. Only saving grace was Muller.

That's disappointing to hear, he was a force on the ice a couple years ago and he certainly could be again. He really seemed to enjoy being here unlike some who don't want to go to Montreal.

I agree about the D changes I think he is done.  The left side is full right now with the addition of Romanov and Edmundson, so any moves now will be to address the scoring issue and power play issue. But I do love the fact that he is addressing our team needs this off season and not just standing pack.

Totally agree, looks like the left side defence is good, we have a quality back up goaltender, kids are progressing well at centre, need a scoring winger.

I really dont think Montreal is trading for a defender this season. If they can sign another quality depth D on UFA market "on the cheap" ala Chairot then yes. Otherwise I truly believe MB believes the answer on D is from within the system and will play the long game. With a very well managed CAP currently and taking into consideration the expansion draft, and flat cap these upcoming years, as well as big raises to some key players in the near future.

I totally agree, especially if they resign Petry then the kids coming up will fill the remaining slots on defence. They need another scoring winger.

A general strike would be amazing, but American workers are so divided it would probably lead to massive violence and chaos...

Agree 100%. there are very deep divisions in the US.

Excuse me, but Koivu was a dominant, top-5 NHL player for those 50 games before suffering a catastrophic knee injury. I watched him before and after and he was never the same.

He would have been a high-end all star without that injury.

I remember that injury well, he was having a phenomenal season when it happened. He was never as good after.

I just read that the Mariners are boycotting tonight, so MLB is coming.

I agree with Hrudey, yes, the NHL should do likewise.

Something has to be done or change won't happen.  Too bad we are going through this COVID thing at the same time, if there were fans buying tickets the boycotts would have more effect.

As opposed to a fan of a league of subliminal racists, moral cowards and hypocrites like the NHL...

Do you think the NHL players should boycott games?   You would think MLB would make a stronger statement.  It was tough to watch a video of the shooting in Wisconsin.

There is some twitter speculation that Bergevin and Treveling are working on a deal.  Gaudreau to Montreal, Domi, Poehling, 1st rounder to Calgary.  Not sure of the validity of any of the sources though.  Could be someone just thinking out loud.

I hope it's just speculation, way too much to give up for Gaudreau.
