McDavid post game on the lightning

“They got a great system. They’re perfectly coached. They all know what they’re doing all over the ice. It’s impressive. They are a great team.”

“They’re extremely well coached they’re extremely well organized. They’re very very rehearsed in everything that they do. It’s very impressive and when you do break them down, they got a heck of a goalie to back stop them.”

I Asked him how they can get to that place with their system.

“That’s a coaching question you can ask Knobber  that question. Obviously we’ve been play together a long time and we feel like we’re somewhat rehearsed and organized, but not to their level.”

I'm pretty sure that Leon D had similar comments about their coach.

I think McDavid leaves Edmonton after this contract

Obviously a lot of frustration there. If the Oilers were in the East they would have almost zero chance of making the playoffs. Their problems are a lot deeper than goaltending. It's funny how the goalies look good when everyone else on the ice does their job. It's an easy game plan against the Oilers without Draisatl in the lineup. Their window is getting shorter and shorter. They have given up so many 1st rounds picks to try and win now. Their future looks bleak after McDavid.  The Nurse contract is a killer.  Hughes has done a phenomenal job with contracts. The Habs long term contracts look fantastic now. Suzuki 7th in the league in scoring at 7.8m/year. When was the last time the Habs had a guy in the top 10 this late in the year?

Friedman says he heard the Knies rumour but when he talked to his sources about it they all denied that this was the move.

Knies is their best young player and a building block. Looks like the media looking for a story in a hockey obsessed market. The kind of player you trade only if you get an offer you can't refuse.

My two favorite things in hockey coming together tonight; cheering for the Habs and cheering against the Leafs

That pretty much sums it up.  I expect a big effort from the Leafs tonight, they are due for a big game. It won't be easy.

I have been reading the Leafs board recently, they hope the Leafs lose so they finish bottom 5 and get to keep their pick. What a horrible trade the Brandon Carlo trade is turning into.  Could be the #6 - #8 pick and Fraser Minten. Minten is a good young player, might score 20 this year.

I would very much like to add Knies to our team!

Cost must be very high but having Slafkovsky on one line and Knies on another would be tough for teams to deal with.

No doubt would love to have Knies, developing into one of the better power forwards in the league.  Cost wouldn't be cheap and shouldn't be, you don't trade with a division rival without getting an excellent return.

I’m okay with habs management not over paying today especially if it was going to cost us any of our top prospects.  If anything this just makes my faith in this management team even stronger.

Yup, no deal is way better than a bad deal.

Stanley and Schenn would have looked good as the habs new 3rd pairing

All it cost was a 2nd, 4th, some-body named Jacob Bryson (5'9", 177 lbs, 28 yrs-old, 6g, 42a in 289 games) and Isak Rosen (2021 14th overall - 6', 185 lb, 22 yrs-old, RW - 4th year pro - 3g, 5a in 31 NHL games, but scores in the AHL - tied for 6th in AHL scoring despite 1520 fewer games played) .... have to think Xhekaj or Struble, Roy and picks could have gotten it done

I just hope the Habs don't do anything stupid. I have watched a few Jets games, Stanley is no improvement over Xhekaj or Struble, Schenn is solid though.

Obviously the Capitals have become seller, kudos to Anaheim for going for it. They have some great veterans to go along with their young talent.

He’s never going to score 40 in the NHL, but he looks fantastic for an #83 OA pick.

Habs’ drafting has been pretty solid for the past few years.

Too bad he missed a month or he probably would have reached 50 goals.

The first is a conditional 2027, top 10 protected ... but still seems a bit steep

It does seem steep but teams always overpay at the trade deadline.  I hope Hughes doesn't participate in the madness.

I see the Kings have traded Foegele to the Senators. Does that mean the Kings are sellers or are they clearing cap space for a bigger move?

    Habs need to add.

They’re not a lock to make the playoffs and missing would be a huge failure.

Get Thomas. Get a dman. Get in.

They should add only if it makes sense from a longer term perspective. There will be a time to go all in but it's not this year.

The only RHD that could possibly make sense (in my opinion, of course) is Justin Faulk. Solid D for the playoffs, albeit at an AAV of $6.5M until 2026-27. But thanks to that AAV, there may not be as much competition for his services.

I'm still not convinced that Hughes will make a trade for a top-four D, though.

I am pretty confident he won't be trading for a top 4 D  First of all it would be very expensive and I think a top 4 of Matheson, Guhle, Hutson and Dobson is a pretty decent top 4.  They are certainly paying them all like top 4 D.

It’s already looking like we gave up too high of a significant future for Danault. He wins faceoffs, but has been crap defensively and on the PK.

frankly he looks done, and given the cap hit, looks like th type of player teams have a hard time getting a 4th or 5th to get rid of.

maybe he will be more value in the playoffs. But too me it looks like we have a #1 centre, a #3 centre (Kapanan), and two very similar #4 centres. When Slafkovsky and Demidov aren’t on, Kapanan has not been able to generate much 5 on 5 on his own.

ideally, we need some size and 2 way skill up the middle.

My biggest concern with the Danault trade was not the 2nd round pick but the cap hit. It really limits their flexibility right now so I expect a quiet deadline which is ok.  That trade really helped LA though as it helped them fit in Panarin.

I think its both faith in Kapanen and a belief that Hage isnt far away so while Hage isnt ready now, they dont want a C with term

That makes perfect sense. I would rather Montreal do nothing at the deadline than make a deal that doesn't really move the needle. They still need to think longer term. Plus they have a lot less flexibility cap wise after taking on Danault's contract. Buyers rarely make good deals (for the longer term anyway) at the trade deadline.
