  1. Can we please just sit him until he doesn't need treatment every practice day ... don't care if he is playing well, the health of an emerging young player is more important to me.

I’m not even sure RHP has a roster spot either, well unless the Habs remain cursed with injuries.

Don't forget tams keep 13th, sometimes even 14th, forwards ... RHP seems like a decent 13F ... likely happy to be there but not wasting development time in the stands ... pretty much Popeye at this point

    Ylonen 24 yrs old now.

    22-23 37gms 6g 16pts

    23-24 51gms 3g 7pts

Gonna be a RFA, will he even be offered a contract by Habs?
Heineman is 2years younger and maybe he will take that bottom six spot next season?

I think, as I have said elsewhere, that Ylonen has "run out the clock" on his potential, at least with the Habs ... really all he has shown with any consistency is NHL skating.

I cannot find it within my heart to give a rat's tuchus about Dvorak...but yes, a healthy Dach would be a godsend

A healthy Dvorak is closer to being tradeable, that is my only interest ... unless he opens next season in a manner that earns my interest.

I'm hearing that Dach might play in some of the last games of this season.  He's recovering well and giving him a few games wont risk him over compensating and causing another injury.

I'm not hoping for that ... all I want for him and Dvo is to have full, normal summers to prepare for training camp.

I wouldn’t go with a strict rotation, but your basic thought here seems valid.

The other side of it is, there always seem to be veteran backups floating around, even after the season starts. So if Primeau falters we can probably still plug someone into the hole.

My concern is that at that point you are taking "what's left over" ... if the Habs are going to take a step along the rebuild timeline (I'm not expecting playoffs but much closer) they need someone who can take on close to 30 games.

Here are my dream scenario's for the upcoming entry draft.

    Dream Scenario #1

Habs win the lottery and take Macklin Celebrini. Then they package Winnipeg's 1st pick plus their additional 1st rounder from next year (add more if required) so they can draft in the 10-13 range and take Tij Iginla if he is still available.

    Dream Scenario #2

Habs  draft 5 or 6 and luck out because of all the good defensemen available so Cayden Lindstrom falls to them. Then they package Winnipeg's 1st pick plus their additional 1st rounder from next year (add more if required) so they can draft in the 10-13 range and take Tij Iginla if he is still available.

    It's nice to dream.

NHL Mock Draft 2024: Macklin Celebrini goes to Blackhawks, Cole Eiserman to Senators in first projection (msn.com)

You forgot Dream Scenario #1.5: the Habs win the "second" lottery and get to select from everyone left after the first selection.

I wouldn't trade the Habs 1st rounder in 2025, I would flip the other pick which could be high 20's or low teens depending on how Florida and Calgary do. If Calgary finishes bottom 10 next year (entirely possible) then the Habs will likely get Florida's pick which could be a very late 1st rounder.

No real need to commit now ... *** IF *** HuGo trade a 2025 pick it could simply be the "lesser" of theirs and "the pick coming from the Calgary trade.

We will see how he does with more regular starts for the next month anyways.

Personally, I would rotate them ... important to find out whether They can plan on Primeau as the backup for next season or need to find an inexpensive veteran for 24/25.

  10. Important for D&D to be skating regularly by the end of the season in order for them to have a normal summer preparing for training camp ... with Allen gone, White could come off IR at any time without causing a roster issue.

Indeed. Monty was an unproven commodity and Primeau was nothing. You don’t facilitate a rebuild by having your team get shelled night after night; young D need to feel that not every mistake equals a goal. So I think there is some “retconning” going on regarding the Allen deal, perhaps reflecting the Tanquiste mentality that it’s just great to lose every game 8-1. 🤷‍♂️ Anyhow, true to form Hughes did nothing to jeopardize our Cup window so even if the contract was bad, no harm done.

Agreed ... the contract is only "bad" in retrospect because Montembeault emerged as an NHL goalie, otherwise not re-signing Allen would have been a disaster ... although we likely would have gotten Bedard.

Seems like Vegas is not too worried about next year LOL  Have to sign Hannifin, Hertl at 8.1M.   They are going for it this year.

Before adding Hertl, Vegas only have 15 players from their NHL roster signed for next season and have $15.7M in cap space ... Hertl will eat up $6.75412M of that but also means they only have 6-7 spots to fill ... expect it means Marchessault isn't re-signed.

Im glad they chose Primeau as the backup over Allen.

He may be moved later but for now bet on the youth.

I-M-O Primeau needs to get at least 8 games the rest of the way for Hughes to know whether they need to find a backup this summer or can plan on Cayden as the backup.

Happy for Allen that he gets to play more regularly.

Bottom Six Minutes: Joshua Roy is catching fire - Habs Eyes on the Prize

So Roy will be loaned to Laval today "on paper' and then recalled tomorrow? Is that correct.

The ONLY way I don't see him recalled is if Hughes somehow manages to trade Allen but is required to take back a couple of NHL contracts and needs the roster spot ... and even then, they may just have to work through opening a roster spot for Roy ... options include waiving one of the new guys, sending down RHP* or even hoping Ylonen wouldn't get claimed on waivers.

    * - Since RHP is also waiver exempt I wonder whether they might paper him down as well ... however, each "paper demotion" uses up one of the four non-emergency post-deadline recalls if/when the player is recalled to the Habs ... that limits non-emergency roster flexibility the rest of the season.

Barron has not settled in LVL since the demotion. He is playing the same way that got him demoted. Some flashes when he tries to generate offense but not great defending.

That has always been the concern with him ... and he is starting to get to the age (23 early next season) that the shine starts to wear off "potential", even for defencemen who do tend to "bloom" later.
