If this is the case, one would have to assume his NHL career is over I would think.  How can one possibly come back from quitting on their team in the midst of the playoffs for anything less than a life or death family emergency?

Don't like this one bit ... I agree he has likely lost his teammates ... but if he shows up at training camp the BBs are on the hook for $7 million next season, unless the can trade him or buy him out (cap hit of just shy of $2.67M and $2.17M for 20/21 and 21/22) ... is he likely to walk away from that money?

Also, Halak is 35 yrs old and the last time he played over 40 games he had a terrible season and lost his staters job with the NYI ... would the BBs have to acquire a 35-50 game goalie to share the workload?

Grasping at straws are we Alain?

Muller when asked who's idea it was (his or CJ) to scratch Weise and re-insert Evans and promote and demote armia and Domi... he said he made the decision. Said he had a gut feeling...

Think he was just trying to change the script somewhat and give the Philly reporters something to ask/write about other than "the Flyers sucked"

That is what I tried finding to confirm. If that is the case, it bodes well for the Habs even if they go deep in the playoffs

I Googled multiple combos and couldn't find anything specific ... except all sources I found spoke of the second lottery setting the first 15 picks for the first round ... and my feeble memory does recall hearing/reading that the two lotteries were for the first round only.

    Armia!

Do we still want this Gostisbehere guy? He seems to be struggling ... 😆

He is the classic good offence poor defence guy ... he averages 12 goals and 35 assists ... 22 of his 51 career goals have been on the PP ... not a Weber or Petry partner, but maybe a 3rd pairing/PP guy ... but a bit pricey at $4.5 AAV for the next three years ...

If thats the case, Joel Bouchard come on Down!

For some reason I've always (i.e., since he joined the Habs organization) thought Bouchard wants into Hockey Ops more than going behind the bench.

Dominic Ducharme would obviously have a shot ... two mother names that have come up before are Pascal Vincent (11 yrs HC in the QMJHL, 5 years NHL assistant and 4 years as AHL HC) ... AND ... Andre Tourigny (11 yrs HC in the QMJHL, 3yrs NHL assistant and 3 yrs OHL HC)

I realized the same thing earlier this week too.

From a drafting perspective , I hope Habs and Hawks get bounced out of the playoffs; and to a lesser degree Caps and Blues (but those picks were late anyways)

I think I read/heard the second round onwards reverts to the NHL standings when play was halted back in March.

Going into a high stress, high pressure job like NHL coaching is probably not recommended that soon after.

With two more years on a contract that would undoubtedly be paid out for some sort of consultant's role, at 60 years of age and 18 years as a NHL head coach he may even decide it isn't worth it.

Not fully in love with this idea, but throwing it out there...

If Henrik Lundqvist wants to play for one more season but NYR can't handle the cap hit, what about doing something like the Brooks Orpik trade a couple seasons ago or the Patrick Marleau trade last year where the Rangers send the Habs Lundqvist & Carolina's 1st round pick for a guy like Jordan Weal, and we buy him out immediately so he can re-sign with NYR at a more palatable salary?

$5 500 000 cap hit for next season, $1 500 000 cap hit for the season after.

I'm not a fan of the idea unless the payoff is much more than a first round pick (unless its this season's ... which it would never be)

Lundqvist has a NMC, so he needs to agree to be dealt (which is where the concept of trade and re-sign may make some sense as an enticement to waive his NMC) ... also, NYRs have two young goalies who both had better seasons than Lundqvist ... unless they get a good trade offer for one of the youngsters I doubt the NYRs have room for Henrique next season regardless of cap hit ..

Trading for Lundvist just to buy him out AND then re-sign with the NYRs is a salary dump that needs a significant payoff ... ***IF*** this were to be done, IMO the payoff would need to include (a) either one of the young goalies or (b) Tony DeAngelo or (c) K’Andre Miller or (d) Nils Lundkvist ... who the Habs would have to give and/or what else comes from the Rangers would vary with each option.

Oh geez. Anyway, get well soon, Claude!

There is a relatively small cadre of French media who always stir things up about language and Habs HC s and GMs ... think this was intended to avoid them being able to even try to make an issue of it ... there may still be some who question why Dominic Ducharme is filling in, but they will look very bad if they do.

Ouellet is also playing his natural side. Mete is being put in a bad position by the fact Ouellet is in the lineup.

Perhaps ... but if Mete was valued on the PK he could play his regular side killing penalties ... my point was largely that Xavier has a role beyond 5-on-5 ... also, Flyers are a more physical team then Pens and that disadvantages Mete in the defensive zone ...

Irritating, but no surprise, given Quebec's folks open mindedness and welcoming...oops i got that backwards.

Most Quebecois don't care whether or not the Habs head coach is French ... they just want a coach who does a good job ... but a vocal minority, especially a cadre of journalists, stir the pot.

... I found the reference to Muller’s unilingualism in the press release really irritating. As if they have to apologize for making an Anglo the temporary head coach in a crisis..,Jeebus

Learning from the Cunneyworth experience, being proactive to cut off those in the French media who would make a stink ... also hopefully avoids Kirk having to answer questions about being unilingual ...

First and foremost I hope CJ is okay.

As for Mete, I think it is absurd to play him on his off wing to begin with. How is Mete on his off-side paired with Oulette the best option we have?

    Give us Mete and Fleury

I'll agree about Fleury, but of the two LHD I think that Ouellette has contributed more

    Heart attack?

Marc Bergevin's full statement regarding Claude Julien, in essence:

Claude Julien ... experienced chest pain during the night ... he's undergoing tests to determine the exact nature of his condition. This has nothing to do with COVID.

We don't expect him to be back during this series against the Flyers.  Kirk [Muller] ... (associate head coach) will assume the responsibility of head coach until Claude's return.

Doesn't sound like a heart attack as such, it would already be diagnosed, but doesn't sound good ... at age 60, after 18 seasons as a NHL head coach and two years left on his contract that would be paid out, it might be tempting (even smart) for him to stay away and call it quits after the playoffs.

Thoughts with Claude and his family for a speedy recovery.

    OUELLET

    ========
maybe NHL experience is a factor that weighs in his favour ? I think he has more NHL games than the others

In that logic, Mete would also have more games than the others but why play him on his off-side ?

    WEISE

    =====
he does not take risks like Hudon would and does not force the play. He also has size and may be the only one on the time that may drop the gloves besides Domi

    TALENT

    ======
talent wise, the players that should be coming in for those are IMO

    Fleury, Juulsen, Folin

    Weil, Evans, Poehling, Hudon

IMO Ouellette is outplaying Mete, if only for his contributions (4th D) on a thus far successful PK ... against a more physical Flyers team I would sub Fleury for Mete ... don't think it would be fair to depend on Juulsen in a playoff series given he has not played an NHL game since December 17, 2018 (but I see him as part of the D next season) and I'm not certain Folin is an upgrade on Xavier ... Folin is a pending UFA and Ouellette a pending RFA ... my guess is that Folin leaves and Ouellette gets re-signed to a one-way deal (for less than the limit that can be buried in the AHL at no cap cost) to be available as a 7/6 D if needed.

As for Weise, not certain his willingness to drop the gloves is enough to keep him in the lineup ... but it is an asset the others don't bring ... ***if*** Evans is healthy he would be my choice (think there is a good chance he is the 4C next season)  ... I lean towards Poehling over Weal because of the experience it would give him going forward ... but in terms of expected production Weal might be slightly ahead of Ryan (Ouellette outscored him last season in Laval) ... Hudon would be a hugely surprising choice IMO, but if they are looking to optimize the chance for 4th line offence he does have the most skill (IMO)

Yeah ... but what's the issue with Tatar? He was our leading scorer during the regular season, and now he seems to be completely rudderless. What's going on?

Over his career, in the regular season he scores every 3.5 games but only every 7.25 in the playoffs ... hopefully he can break his previous patterns.

Didn't Tallon also make a terrible hash of the Vegas expansion draft - basically handing them Marchessault and Smith? If I were (God forbid) a Panthers fan, I'd never forgive him that one...

Yeah, he was one of several GMs that mismanaged the protection list concept (in fairness, they were all rookies) ... fo some reason Florida went for 8 skaters rather than 7F and 3D and protected defencemen Keith Yandle and Aaron Ekblad (as was expected) but also Mark Pysyk and Alex Petrovic ... I also recall there being some talk of them not believing Marsasault was really a 30 goal scorer (as he had just done fo the first time at age 26 after 8 goals in 49 games over three seasons with CBJ and TBL) and Smith's production had been a yoyo (20g - 13g - 25g - 15g), with the second dip coming after the Panthers signed him to a 5yr @ $5M the previous summer ... it didn't work out but there were other factors at play.

Two of the reasons I would like Tallon onboard are (a) he would be a hard voice for Bergevin to ignore given his many years as a GM, and status as Bergevin's former boss, and (b) if needed, he is a potential GM replacement; coming onboard would allow him to get a good look at the players and the administration.
