  1. @Commandant do you have any statistical player comparisons for Farrell or Roy? I know you've used player production at lower levels as reference for later production before ie:McCarron never producing.

I'm excited about these two but given their weird trajectories or playing the extra USHL year I'm not sure where to peg my expectations.

Hyman isnt a bad player.  I think they will regret the contract though.  Its a little too pricey.

Smith has been great in the playoffs so far but hes 39 and he cant keep up this pace.  They really could have used a quality 1b with him.  Koskinen aint it.

Kane (on the ice) has been a great pickup.  He can play.  Off ice is always the issue.

    Problems with the oilers though...

How do they pay Puljujarvi this summer.  Prime offer sheet candidate with their cap mess (not Habs but a team who isny expecting a top pick in 2023).

The bottom 6 forwards are hot garbage.

    Kassians contract.... woof

    That defence...

    Duncan keith....woof... washed up

    Cody Ceci..... ouch

    Kris Russell.... yikes.

    Calgary in 5

I think Yams gets signed over Poolparty... The guy simply doesn't have the hockey IQ to be a regular contributor from what I've seen.

Not to defend Edmonton's score but Ceci hasn't been terrible and Russell is the 7th d. Barely passed 5 minutes last night.

The whole Keith situation is brain numbing though...

If we can dump him, given his age and contract, dump him, i don't even need anything

    What contract swaps make sense?

Quick search for me got like mayyyybe 4 options.

    Jason Dickinson VAN

    Radek Daska DAL

    Carl Hagelin WAS

Maybe Adam Lowry if Winnipeg wants him back?

Gallagher in the penalty box for a couple Jets goals, held off the scoresheet for all but one of his last 16 games.  Looking like one of the worst millstone contracts in the league.  It'll be tough building a contender with $17M tied up in him and Carey over the next 4 years, unless they both magically go the Weber route.

Honestly moments like this make me hate the salary cap. I hate that a guy that has played so hard through his career and most Habs fans had him as a favourite... Will become maligned because of his contract :(

Roy 1g(24)2a, multiple points in 5 of last 8gms, 6pts in last 2games. 67pts 1st in Q scoring. Seems a nice choice so far, he was pick #150 and hope he turns out similar to pick #147 Gallagher.

    Guhle 2a; 34pts in 35gms

Mysak/Xhekaj 1a and Bulldogs lit up Vrbetic for 7g on 42shots, pulled in 3rd.

    Biondi 2g (14,15)

    Struble 1a, Harris 0pts

    Farrell is out injured.

    Kapanen not in lineup(?)

Was at the Oil kings game last night against the Regina Bedard's.

Guhle is a very aggressive puck handler in the offensive zone. Didn't realize that was part of his game.

There have been times he looked bad... when paired with Chiarot, he looked bad.  When everyone had Covid and him and Kulak played 25 minutes as the top pair at the end of December, it looked bad.

    When he's played as a #4 or #5 Dman, he's been fine.

I mean, 3.5 hasn't been a bargain, but he's an NHL player and it's not a huge overpayment or anything.  Mostly he's just been fine given his contract.

I mainly caught games where he was with Chiarot and a few at the end of December... So that explains why I thought he'd been a tire fire haha

Yeah, I'm with you.   I dont see any of them comparable to Alzner.

They are all NHL players and worth their value.

The issue is that they are all downgrades.... Savard is a downgrade from Weber, Dvorak is a downgrade from Danault, Hoffman is a downgrade from Tatar (two-way game especially).

None of the contracts are bad, and all have value on the trade market and would not need to be bought out.   But the overall talent on the team dropped.

At the same time, once Weber was out, and Hamilton was signing with the Devils, I'm not sure what the GM should have done there.

We probably should have re-signed Danault.

Tatar was driven out of town when DD wouldn't play him in the playoffs, so Hoffman as an idea (replace some scoring from Tatar, be a PP weapon to replace part of what Weber did), wasn't bad thinking.

But overall you do all three of these and its a downgrade.

Add in bad coaching and you have a crappy team.

Has Savard really looked like a value contract? I admit it's tough to judge him given the general state of the team but I struggle to see him as a 3.5M dman. I don't think his role in Tampa justified it either?

Is that a rhetorical question🤔 I think they both screwed the pooch big time. Like I said in an earlier post, if the Oilers don’t make the playoffs, AND win a round, Holland should be fired. Too many idiotic decisions. This isn’t the hr early 2000’s, when he could sign:trade for an old Chicago dman.  I don’t know what was worse - the Keith trade, or Smith contract.

I get they’ve been through a lot of GM’s and coaches, but they need someone who the game hasn’t passed by. Holland’s work at the end of his tenure in Detroit already was evidence that the game has  passed him by.

100% the Keith trade. Terrible contract for a player who is nowhere near that value.

Smith could be fine as a backup. His performance last year was amazing but he is old and gets injured.

  9. Not going to lie. When I saw the headline about Arber X getting traded from Rangers to the Bulldogs... My first thought was how did our AHL team trade for a guy from NYR when I thought he was our prospect...

Then I remembered Kitchener and that the Bulldogs are an OHL team now. I was very very confused for a second.
