  1. So you expected MORE than a point per game out of Koivu and Kovalev?

And why is Dandenault so low? His +/- is tied for the best on the team among the regular D-men.

I also do not think Bouillon has any business at all being on the overachievers list. What has always been expected of him is that he plays his ass off every night. That is the norm from him. His numbers, however, are not good. He is tied for 2nd worst +/- on the team.

    THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

    Blue Jackets Aqcuire Robert Esche

The Columbus Blue Jackets have scheduled a press conference today to announce the aqcuisition of goaltender Robert Esche, of the Philadelphia Flyers. Mired in a losing streak of 4 games, the team felt that it was time to shake things up. Headed to Philadelphia are Phillipe Sauve, Raffaele Sannitz, and Carolina's 3rd round draft choice in the 2006 NHL Entry draft.

"It was the right time to make a deal," said GM Fanpuck33. "Our goaltending has been pretty weak this season, I think that's pretty obvious. Our defence has been outstanding, allowing only 22 shots a game. Unfortunately, we've still given up more goals than all but 2 other teams in the league. We are still confident in Pascal as our goalie of the future, but we felt that he is not quite ready to shoulder a playoff contender. Thus, we brought in a guy who's a veteran, has seen playoff action, and is a member of the US team."

The Jackets have spent quite a bit of time this year trying to get LeClaire going. In November, the team benched him for two big games against Minnesota and Chicago. More recently, the team called up Olivier Michaud for a game. Both moves had no effect on LeClaire's play. Less than a year ago it seemed that LeClaire was, indeed, ready to shoulder the load, putting up a .889 SV% in his rookie campaign. This season, however, has been a different story. His .859 SV% ranks second lowest among goalies with 20 or more starts. On the year, his record is 14-10-6-0.

When asked about the deal, Pascal LeClaire had this to say, "Well, I'm obviously disappointed. This was my team and I let them down. I'm not blind, I know I haven't played very well this year, so I understand why Fanpuck had to make this deal. All I can do is work hard and try to get the job back. I'm sure I can learn a lot from Robert, hopefully the two of us can carry this team to the playoffs."

Halfway into the season, the Blue Jacket's record stands at 20-13-6-2, 6th place in the Western Conference. Rick Nash currently stand in 4th place in the league in goals, with 23 tallies. Captain Joe Sakic is tied for 3rd in the league in assists, with 28 helpers. Both are tied for 6th in the league in points, with 46. Until recently, Alexandre Picard had led the league in rookie scoring, but has fallen into 2nd place, behind Sidney Crosby and Chris Higgins.

Heading into 2006, this is what the Jackets look like:

    Nash-Fritsche-Zherdev

    Picard-Sakic-Vyborny

    Tucker-Svitov-Pineault

    Chimera-Wright-Hinote

    Klesla-Greene

    Johnson-Burns

    Spacek-Sopel

    Esche

    LeClaire

Scratches: Ian Moran, Dan Cleary, Riku Hahl

Note: Gerard Gallant has announced that veteran center Tyler Wright will take over the 4th line center spot from the struggling Riku Hahl.

  3. Columbus sends:

    G Phillipe Sauve (78OA, 25 years old, 1.3 million for 3 years + TO)

    C Raffaele Sannitz (58 OA, 22 years old, 400,000 for 2 years + TO)

Carolina's 3rd round pick in the 2006 NHL Entry draft

    to Philadelphia for:

G Robert Esche (82 OA, 27 years old, 2.75 million for 4 years + TO)

Columbus makes this deal to acquire a more veteran netminder, since Pascal LeClaire has sucked this season. Sannitz was an AHL reserve player, I just threw him in to get the deal done.

  4. That's been said also about soccer. But in the old days they used a lot of stuff (came out later), but the tests just weren't there or not good enough to bust people. I don't believe it that they didn't use in the old days. It's been a fluke to sport for ages!!

Actually, my comment had nothing to do with steroids. Athletes across the board feel the need to be super buff, so they overwork their muscles, making them so tight that they injure more easily than they should. I have no doubt that we'd see fewer injuries if guys simply worked on conditioning, rather than so much heavy lifting. It doesn't matter how much you can squat or bench if you're always hurt.

  5. Does Berard have to take anything for his eye?

Even if he does, it surely would not be an anabolic steroid.

Sad news, especially since I liked the guy. I'm quite disappointed by this news. These pro athletes just don't seem to get it. They get so buff that they lose range of motion and flexibility. Back in the old days, you didn't see guys going out with muscle pulls all the time. The old-timers, in all sports, knew that sports are about more than being the strongest.

  6. BTW, I know who the Insider is now. Its easy, there's only one GM out there who likes to butcher names and come up with "Robbie" Luongo and "Rusty" Klesla... :P

Actually, Rusty is Klesla's real life nickname. When the announcers say his name, they say Rusty Klesla, not Rostislav Klesla.

  7. My bad, I didn't check I thought it was Lynn...and if it is her or not don't tell me :P

I'll try to reply without spoiling anything. You did read something about Lynn in my post, because her name was once listed on the season opener cast list. Obviously, she wasn't there last night. I won't mention if it is her or another character coming back later this season, though.

  8. Columbus offers UFA Goale Kyle Kettles (59 OA):

    $300,000

    $150,000 bonus

    1 year, 2-way, TO

I forgot to mention this in my HQ submission, but he is to be demoted to the AHL upon signing.

  9. Oh my freakin' God.

That's all I'm posting...sorry to be a douche but can we get spoiler tags if people are going to post about future episodes that haven't been aired?

What? All that was mentioned is that a certain character is reprising a role. That's hardly a spoiler. All you have to do is look at the cast listings of the episodes for that.

Heck, we didn't even mention what character was returning.

  10. And every 24 fan, mark February 6th on your calendar.

    :D:D:D

Until I see that character back with my own eyes, I won't believe it. They also said that Michelle Forbes was giong to reprise her role as Lynne Kresge from season 2, but that didn't happen tonight.

I can't wait for tonight. This is the first season I've watched as it happens. I watched seasons 1-3 on DVD, and season 4 during a marathon. The constant week between episodes is gonna suck. Except for tonight of course.

  11. Any other 24 fans here?

Holy crap! I can't believe they killed off Palmer, he was such a good character. A Democrat that I'd have voted for! And then minutes later Michelle gets killed, good God! Talk about axing two main characters in 15 minutes.

I guess the rumors about Lynne Kresge returning were false. I'd have liked for her to wake up from her coma and give Mike Novik what's coming to him. She was a loose end that never even got mentioned in later episodes, I thought they were finally rectifying it. Lesson: Do not trust IMBD.

And to already show who the mole is, geez. Surely there will be another one in CTU, perhaps the guy Chloe was sleeping with? No, that's way too obvious. This is one show that always keeps me guessing.
