Perfect.. another penalty.. so far, little sign of life for the Habs.
-
Wow, the ref has put the whistle away now, blatant non call again when Perez was interferred with on the dump and chase....
-
Outshot 30 - 9 half way. Abby has been shaky, but I would not blame him for this mess. The whole team sucks tonight.
-
Man, the leafs are freaking lucky...
Bad bounce goal.. so much for momentum.
-
Let's hope that wakes them up.. need to put a few good shifts together of high tempo play to get back in this...
Oh, and Abbey has been damn good this period (rebounds aside), kept them in it.
-
Wow.. if that doesn't get perez back on the third, nothing will.. amazing goal.
-
Yes, they are out playing us, doesn't mean we have to like it.
-
No change, leafs all over them in the zone, no skating.
-
The leafs want it more, simple as that. The habs have been just brutal in their own end tonight.
If the don't wake up and start out skating the leafs and forechecking, it is going to be a very long night.
-
News flash to the Habs.. they are calling it tight tonight.. be smart and don't get penalties. Skate hard and draw them.
-
I don't understand why the Habs can't seem to understand what a penalty is. It has been consistent.
-
It was a valid call based on the replay. they have been calling that for 2 seasons now, the habs need to be smarter then to get the stick up.
-
Nice goal Sammy!...
-
I was worried about this.. the Leafs are coming out hard after those embarrassing losses to Ottawa, and the Habs are over confident.
-
You know, I think Kovy is the one being punished. He is playing with a 3rd line center and a 4th line winger. Perhaps Sammy really is on the 2nd line with Bonk and Johnson.
-
Discipline is going to be needed tonight. I hope the Habs can keep the penalties down.
-
didn't take long to get the leafs that PP.
-
Personally, I think I have been very consistent.
I did not like the Riberio trade. (not that I was against trading him away, just that trade).
I did not and do not think Pleks will ever be a number 2 center of any value. I do think he can be a great 3rd line center.
I think almost every prospect the Habs have is massively over rated around here. That includes Lats, who would not be playing on any other team. He might be a decent player one day out in the future.
I think you should not expect much more then 60 to 75 points out of Kovalev, regardless of the fact that he has the "talent" to get 100.
I think Huet was signed for too much on too little evidence. I suspect he will have an average season, not great, not horrible.
I think Souray is a good asset, despite his spotty defensive play.
I think Koivu is a great team guy, but below average as a number one center in this league. He would be awesome as our number 2 center and captain until he retires.
I think Ryder is a 30 goal guy, I don't think he will ever break 40.
I have little use for half the defensemen on this team. I like souray, Markov, boo boo, and I can live with Rivet. Everyone else.. blah.
I like Gainey, but I don't think he is infallible. That said, when he makes mistakes they are small. He doesn't make huge blunders (eg. Trading Thorton.. LOL).
There ya go, rip me a new one.
Oh, I was disappointed with Bonk last year but I like his play this year. He is expensive, but definitely adds value.
Begin, love him.

Ribs is on a far better team now. Of course he is on the plus side. Also the majority of his points now are on the PP. He is the 4th line center in Dallas.
I am glad he is gone.
Of course he is on a better team. They ditched Niinimaa and have a 60 point guy as their number 4 center.

1. Most of the commentators you've heard? French commentators? With extreme bias?
TSN, Sportsnet, CBC.. no French at all.
2. On what planet did you think Ribeiro was ever going to net us a top-two centre? EVER?I never said that, ever. I said you make a deal for a top two center, then you can dump Ribs. Or you include Ribs PLUS others for a number two center. San Jose got Joe Thorton. Did they give up anything comparable? No, they gave us several lesser players for one good player.
3. Plex is playing with Sammy and Kovy - two players who couldn't find their own end with a compass.Funny, last year when Ribs had to play with Kovy and (insert winger of your choice) and was a minus, it was all his fault. I notice Ribs is plus 3 in Dallas. I will also point out that Ribs had over 50 points last year, which was a BAD season for him. Pleks is on pace for around 18 points. so..no offense, no defense...
I think they are ruining Pleks, he should be playing as a defensive center and learning that role, which he will excel in. It is kind of like Bulis. As soon as he was on the top two lines trying to score, his defensive play tanked.

I like Kovalev as much as the nexy guy, but these are the facts: he is 33 years old, and makes $4 mil+ per year; he has a reputation for loafing/being lazy/not playing hard every night; he hasn't scored 30 goals since 2002-03.
Kovalev would be an important and useful player for any team that trades for him, but I simply don't think he would net very much. Remember, the last time he was traded, it was for Josef Balej and a 2nd round pick.
Keep in mind that the last time he was traded he was an UFA at the end of a year. It was Balej for a rental. He is now under contract and worth more.
There are teams out there that would make this move. I am not sure what we could get straight up, but we have an extra goalie and plenty of crappy defensemen to ah.. sweeten the pot.
I wouldn't mind if we got either a good center today, or at least a top notch prospect center (not AHL prospect, but one who could play now with way more upside then Pleks).
All that said, I don't think it is going to happen. I do think that they need to do the Jagr thing. Remember how bad he was? Then the Rangers said to him.. who do you want to be your center and they built the team around him. He has been awesome!
Perhaps they should go to Kovy and say, who do you want us to go get to be your center (and Crosby doesn't count ). There might just be a decent guy out there that Kovy wants and we can afford.

Beautiful. Couldn't have said it any better.
Pronger?????? For Ribeiro? Who's your dealer? I agree that this trade is looking to be a bad move, but I think we all knew at the time that it was a risk and it could have went either way. Ninnimma had a couple of really good seasons, then he got hurt and could never return to form. BG was obviously hoping that he would return to form and have a strong campaign. It looks like it didn't pan out, but you can't get mad at the move. He made the right move, in replacing Ribeiro for a defenceman, and he was going to get a 2/3 dman for him, so he took a chance that had potential upside and it looks like it backfired. As much as a cringe everytime he steps on the ice, I still am hopeful he can find a groove and contribute in some way, look at Bonk.
I don't mean trade Ribs for Pronger straight up. But a multiplayer deal might have been made that included Ribs. Or a multiplayer deal for a center better then Ribs, that included Ribs.
Or how about just signing a free agent to replace Ribs, then trade Ribs for Niinimaa.
All I am saying is we are worse off now then before the trade, imo. We have a second line that is worse then last year (and last year you all blamed Ribs for it). Our defense is not better either. so.. how did this help? Maybe a better dressing room without Ribs? Well, that is conjecture given Theo was already gone. Perhaps the dressing room is just as bad with Niinimaa shooting his mouth off. It sure doesn't look like Kovalev and Sammy are happy campers....

I almost feel bad for Boston... well, not too bad, the refs gave them plenty of chances...
Huet played his best game of the year so far.. hopefully that will boost his confidence.
-
Holy crap Markov.. talk about stealing the game... wow...

That was a pretty weak call given the non-calls they have been making since the first.
