  1. Wow, I saw several holds and stuff by the bruins that were let go, then they call the habs.. again... brutal..

Niinimaa with another turnover, almost a goal and a penalty as a result. Why does this guy get on the ice?

    Frankie Boullion!!

I say again, I would rather we had ribs still rather then niinimaa. Then we could trade ribs for someone else.

  2. Its pretty clear that Kovalev is not happy these days. I did read somewhere where he was upset about the ribs trade since he felt they did well together.

I also think he is upset about Sammy being moved down (I am positive Kovy wanted Pleks moved, not Sammy).

Now, I have no idea how much is justified, but it doesn't really matter. Carbo has to have a talk with him and get on the same page.

  3. Ribs = unliked by all. He is a diving. whining cancer that was almost as horrible for the team as Koivus (his cancer) and for us to get some depth at D in exchange for him is just perfect.

On the Samsonov issue, why not try Bonk on the 2nd line? He has centered top lines in Ottawa so why not here? By the way, he is big as well. And if nothing else is possible then why not split the 1st line up just for a game or two to see how Samsonov or Kovalev or even both of them would do playing with Koivu? Higgins - Bonk - Ryder doesnt sound that bad to me.

All the first stuff you talked about is a) opinion and B) business decisions should not be made on those emotional issues. He is not Terrell Owens... :)

Again, I am not saying.. they should not trade ribs to improve the locker room, but I don't think they improved the team. If he was really that bad, they should have dumped him in the off season.

I do like the short term idea of trying Bonk out on that line. His performance this year has been excellent and he has earned the spot. I can't really remember if he ever got a shot at it last year.

  4. Ribeiro was a cancer to the club, pure and simple. Ergo: turd. Plex isn't lost out there so much as the two Russkies are running in useless circles and being COMPLETE perimeter players. Plex is the only one on the line willing to dig anything loose. Perhaps he's less talented than Ribeiro - and he might even have less points than Ribby if the latter were still in Montreal and centering the two Russkies, however their plus minus would probably be well into the double digits negatively. At least Plex gives that line the tiniest bit of defensive awareness.

With Ribeiro? Addition by subtraction. I would have been happy with a rotting turd.

Sorry, but I disagree. Not that a trade with Ribs had to happen eventually, but you can't just dump a guy and get a mediocre defenceman in return. We did not need another mediocre defenseman. If they got Pronger out of this.. well.. :)

As for Pleks, his plus minus is not very good for this part of the season and Ribs is a plus 2. Ribs was a major plus the season before last as well. So.. :) I do believe that Pleks is better defensively, at least when he is playing that role. That is why I want him on the third line, where he can have a great career.

Again, I am not saying I want Ribs on the team.. I am saying:

    1. Pleks is not a number 2 center and that has made us weaker up the middle. This view has been shared by most of the commentator I have heard, so I don't think it is crazy talk.

    2. Niniimaa was not what we needed. We need another top two center. Either one better then Koivu, or one better then Ribs was. That would fix our offense.

    3. Pleks is performing worse then Ribs has, and so far, there is zero evidence that it is addition by subtraction. In fact, our record is worse starting the season then it was last year, with Ribs. :)

Let me repeat, I understand that Ribs days were numbered, but that does not mean you make a bad trade. My opinion is that Ribs would be playing better then Pleks, and would be worth more later in the season.

  5. Zoiks. Ribeiro? The centre isn't the problem with that line, in fact it's the hardest working part most nights. Plex has created a lot that the two gomers haven't finished. Don't talk about goddam Ribeiro and his "superstar" abilities. Better a pile of rat turd instead of him - still higher team spirit and less division in the dressing room.

    Ribeiro. *snorts* What a joke.

Wow, talk about letting personal hate colour your opinion. A rat turd? Get over it already.

Riberio has more offensive talent then Pleks, I don't think that is even debatable. I don't think anyone is suggesting we get Ribs back, the suggestion was that we should not have traded him until we had a better center then Ribs to take his spot. Pleks is not that center.

Regardless, Pleks is a huge problem. I don't know what games you are watching but he has not created many chances at all. He looks lost out there. He has 2 points. If that was Ribs, you would be talking about trading him for a bag of pucks, benching him, etc.

I never want to see this quote again. Everybody wanted him gone. He is gone. Be happy. I don't care if he scores 50 goals in DAllas this year, just know that he wouldn't have if he stayed in Montreal. He just didn't fit into the lineup. No matter what, we are better without him.

Everyone did not want him gone. So, you might see that quote again. :) I am sure you wanted him gone, but you and people on this board are not everyone.

Even people who did want him traded were expecting a move by Gainey to get a better center to replace him.

  6. Sorry guys I don't get this at all.... What has Latendresse done so far to be moved up to the 2nd line? If its up to me ( which I know its not ) I send him back to the the Q. This guy has showed us nothing, zero, nothing. The timing is bad! he's going back home for the first time. Why not move Bonk to the second line and Plenks to the third line for one or two games ( Boston, maple laughs). Just a thought? I hope it all works out.... :hlogo:

    GO HABS GO!!!!!!!

    I agree 100 percent.

I am starting to wonder if it was Carbo who thought Pleks could play 2nd line center (allowing Gainey to trade Ribs), and he is having a hard time admitting he might be wrong.

  7. I think Kovalev got tired of Samsonov and decided he wanted Lats on his line, as simple as that. Whenever Lats got some time with them, oops! Kovalev suddenly looks interested.

The 3rd line has Chipchura written all over it. Plekanec will entrench himself on one of the two lines in due time. He works hard, he's smart and responsible. His offense will come, I dont think anyone should worry about it. The whole 2nd line has had trouble clicking and its not just Plex's fault. They were a mismatch. Hopefully having a different type of player in Latendresse will create better chemistry amongst all three.

Kovy offered to play center. I don't think it was because he wants a different winger.

Pleks does play hard and can be good defensively. Unfortunately, there is zero evidence he will ever entrench himself on the first two lines. He has never had that level of skill at any level of hockey.

It is not all Plek's fault, but he is not helping because he is out of his league.

  8. Trading Ribs was a mistake. I think he was pumped for a good year ( and seems to be having it in Dallas) and when we had a Sammy, Ribs, kovy line, I was pretty optimistic.

If they traded Ribs for a better center, I would have been happy as well. Replacing him with Pleks was a mistake and now they have no one to replace him (I would move Bonk up).

I mean, Kovy offered to play center. He didn't ask for a different winger. He was also happy with Ribs, said several times at the end of last season that all they needed was a steady winger on the other side.He finally gets one, and ribs is shipped off before game one. Kovalev is obviously unhappy. Now Sammy is unhappy.. not good...

  9. Sounds to me like Kovy is not impressed with Pleks as his center either. So much so, he is volunteering to play center. If he can, I am all for it. We have plenty of wingers we can slot in, few choices at center.

The only other possibility I see is putting Bonk as the second line center.

  10. I'll to you what, that bandwagon must be awfully strong for people to jump on and off it as often as they do here.

I don't think it is a case of bandwagon jumping. Even after wins this season people were pointing out the team's weaknesses (2nd line, defense, etc). They also pointed out the good stuff..

Playing Buffalo is benchmark game that really shows where you are at. It shows the Habs still need some work.

I have not seen any comment on this tread that is a new concern this season. If the Habs want to get better they need to identify the weak areas and fix them up.

Being a fan means you get to jump up and down all happy with performances like Higgins, and while pointing out the problems! :)

  11. i am still of the opinion that Riberio would be more help to this team right now that Niniimaa.

I was not against trading Ribs to improve the team, but i don't think we did. We have an excess of mediocre defensemen and we are weak up the middle. Getting weaker up the middle and adding another mediocre defenseman is not a move in the right direction. My hope at the time was that another move was in the works, but not sure anymore.

I hate to say this, but the Habs remind me of last year's Leafs. Mediocre team overall, but special teams kept them alive. Unfortunately, that doesn't do you much in the playoffs. If you watched Buffalo last night, they were all over Souray on the PP...

On the bright side, Higgins is really looking good and the third line is just fine.

Someone needs to take Sammy, Kovy, and Markov out to the shed.
