I think the Thrash will be a force to be reckoned with this year given the benefit of solid goaltending.
-
I thought Rivet looked a half-step too slow last season....looks like it's the same case this season. He'll look decent against larger, slower teams, and bad against fast teams consistently most likely.
-
As bad as I think Souray has been so far, it's too early to make a move. He can be VERY good when he's on his game....so we need to see if he can get it together defensively in a reasonable period of time.
-
Standouts:
Good - Koivu, Higgins, Dandenault
Bad - Rivet, Souray, Murray
Nobody else has really stood out in a good or bad way...are somewhere around average for what I'd expect from them.
-
The Habs better put a convincing win on the Leafs....I am just dying for an opportunity to wear my "Leafs Suck" T-shirt to the gym!
-
I sure as hell hope Bob isn't done...we need a quality stay-at-home D-man who's a strong skater VERY VERY BADLY!!!
-
Rivet/Souray are the (very) early favorites IMO. Both deserve many, many lashes for the way they played tonight.
-
My thoughts on this game:
Huet made some very big stops...could have been ugly had he not been sharp.
Ryder/Koivu/Higgins were dynamite.
Kovalev/Plekanec/Samsonov were lax in their defensive coverage, looked uninterested on many shifts.
3rd and 4th lines were okay, except for Latendresse's defensive gaff (can be forgiven, rookie status and all).
Souray got had a couple of highlight-reel burns put on him
(nothing new there)...and Buffalo's speed exposed Rivet's lack thereof.
As far as the shootout goes, WHY THE HELL was Ryder shooting? This guy looked like a fish out of water in his shootout appearances last year. Waste of a shooter IMO. Bad luck on the Kovalev shot...he beat the tender, but not the post.
Disappointing game, but a point at least. Hoping for a better effort against the Leafs.
-
That game was surreal.....the Sens usually don't shit the bed like that til' the playoffs. They probably got the Leafs all high on themselves....looking forward to our Habs bursting their bubble.

80 points
You're cut off....stop drinking immediately!
-
I'm guessing anywhere from 99-102 points, depending on how well we handle shootouts.
-
Alex Kovalev is the most important guy with regards to this team's success behind only Huet. (I'd say Markov after that, then Koivu)
-
Gui doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of putting up the necessary scoring stats, with him not being on one of the top 2 lines. Calder, shmalder. I'll be happy to see him progress slowly and steady, rather than risk him having the weight of the world thrown on his shoulders too early and having the pressure ruin him.
-
I'm not as anxious to see Bonk go as I was at times last season. He seems to be much improved....I'd like to see where he's at after 10 games. He might end up in the 2nd center role if Pleks falters.
-
I don't want to get carried away...after all, it is just one preseason game....BUT....Plekanec sure looked good between Samsonov and Kovalev.
-
We desperately needed a solid defenceman...glad we got that. Bonk MUST have shown Bob something that indicated he could handle a more offensive role.
-
RDS should have televised this one...it's a Saturday night game, and the last game of the preseason.
-
The Captain was right about Latendresse not going back to junior....looks like Koivu is a good judge of talent.
-
ok start shootng the lines boys! SNIFFFFFF
Ryder-Koivu-Higgins
Samsonov-Ribeiro-Kovalev
Latendresse-Johnson-Plekanec
Bonk-Begin-Perezoghin
You know...I like the Bonk-Begin-Perezhogin idea. Since he doesn't seem to be much of a finisher or playmaker, maybe we can turn Perezhogin into a Begin-type...get him using that speed and solid body to run guys. We know he can hit hard....just ask Keith Primeau.
Well you can't blame them. After all, they're still recovering from the Tie Domi retirement. -
The SI swimsuit edition hasn't been anything to get excited about since Elle Macpherson, Paulina Porizkova, ect reigned supreme. I remember having the inside of my locker door being covered in the best pics back in grade 8. Ah...memories.
But yeah, SI has never known a thing about hockey, and never will.
-
I'd say Lats....he's a big, skilled forward.
Kots is a small, skilled forward....and we already have plenty of those.
Because Lats brings something that the team desperately needs (size up front), I think he's the logical choice.
-
I'm all for leaving Murray and Downey in the pressbox to allow Lats a chance to prove himself, while Perezhogin adds some offense to the 4th line alongside Bonk and Begin.
-
One of the more enjoyable reads I've had in recent memory.
-
I'd love to see Latendresse knotch a game-winner in the dying seconds. Not only for the W, but for the amusement of seeing the French media whipped into a greater frenzy than they already are about him.
