Once again, this bunch returns to a fun brand of hockey after looking blah against Minnesota...great game to watch. Part of me wanted Arber to punch out a St. Louis player after they started roughing it up when down 3, especially after Krug engaged our Captain, but I get that it's not the right time to fight. Glad Caufield continued to fill the net, and that Slaf looked dangerous on several occasions.
-
I was 99% sure Gallagher would not score on that breakaway.
-
Need something to feel good about: a Caufield goal or Wifi beating the snot out of Benn or Marchment would fit the bill.
-
I guess we knew there would be nights like this...

As useless as Drouin is in his own zone, he's not as bad as Dadanov is like everywhere.
I haven't seen Dadonov blow the defensive zone early and be the absolute direct cause of a goal like that last one. I want Drouin gone more than any other player on the roster by a country mile.

F**cking Drouin....useless SOB

A little sloppy, but we're right in this game. Need more net-front traffic going forward. I think Wifi needs to roar into one of the bigger Stars to settle their physicality down a notch.
-
That was fun as hell to watch, and it checked all the boxes:
Caufield continues to fill the net...check
Slaf gets his first....check
Arber drops the other team's heavyweight, and throws his weight around defending his teammates...check
Suzuki scores a highlight reel goal...check
Full value for entertainment....I like this team a lot.

I love that Caufield got back on the scoresheet tonight, and that Guhle continued his solid play. Overall it was a much better effort than we saw against Detroit or Washington.

Is anyone surprised Drouin did nothing?
Not me...it's what I expect from him more often than not.

All I really want from this game is for Caufield to score. I think a strong start over the 1st 10 games could cement him as a 40+ guy this season if he stays healthy; he's got all the talent in the world, it's just mindset that could hold him back.
-
That was fun! So glad to see Caufield get off to a fast start, and the kids looked pretty good in their trial by fire. The only glaring negative I saw out there was Gallagher, who passes at a peewee house league level.

29-45-4-4 = 66
8th Atlantic
30th League
40 goals

I'm not sure who they will bring in to replace the outgoing trash, but they need to implement both a code of conduct and a transparent plan for security/supervision at the hotels during tournaments right from the get-go. It seems ridiculous to me that nothing was in place...that they just let a bunch of 17-19 year-olds do whatever they wanted at events once the games/practices were complete. If you have access to the hotel floor you are staying on restricted to players/staff only, with 24hr monitoring on the floor, there are no scandals....no need to have a cover-up slush fund, as wrong as it was to have one and sweep things under the rug. COMMON SENSE for God's sake.

Finally: this could be the start of the end of Drouin’s career. If he doesn’t come back strong, what team in their right minds is going to sign a guy who couldn’t even crack the opening night roster of this POS squad? Drouin’s patterns, however, do not suggest a player who is in the least bit resilient. The odds of him ending up in Europe next season just increased considerably.
That is exactly where Drouin and his soft-as-mush game belong....floating around the Swiss league. Good riddance!

His game was fading, and he wasn't interested in playing for around league minimum. Makes sense to transition to higher paying TV jobs.

Absolutely sickening.

And that wasn't phonetic French ... I saw another clip somewhere yesterday where he said he took French throughout school but reads and understands better than he speaks (which is pretty common for Ontario high school French) ... also, he said he was taking Babel lessons over the summer ... not concerned that the party leaders in a campaign centred in part on "preserving the French identify of Quebec" raised the issue ... and I also expect a few Quebec nationalist media/social commentators to raise the point ... but, I don't expect it to "have legs" or gain any real traction ... especially if Suzuki continues to throw in some French that shows progression.
I wish he'd progress to being able to flawlessly say, in french: "You tired political and media hacks need to stop bitching and moaning about my ability to speak french. The obsession with language and homegrown talent is a big reason why this franchise hasn't won a cup since 1993. Worry about my being able to elevate my game to point-per-game center level, because THAT'S what wins hockey games, not language."
It's the same old crap, and I'm tired of it.

If we're going to retire Saku Koivu number one day then we do the same to Price. I think those are the only 2 names I would retire that don't have cup's but have made a big impact in our team's history since the cap era has started.
They both did everything they could to win.
Retiring #11 would be a hard NO for me.
-
Any other franchise, we're not even having a discussion about this. I think he should eventually get the nod, but it shouldn't be immediate....the lack of a cup should mean waiting for a team milestone where we really need something to commemorate the occasion. I don't want to see a 30-ish year hole in the team's history in the rafters.

With this defense in front of Allen/Montembeault I think we'll have a reasonable shot at Bedard, or great shot at a top 5 pick at least.

There has to be something significant coming back for this to make sense.

You make 6.5 million a year. You start pouting because your wife won't come live in the place you've lived for 5 years? Bah. Suck it up I says. I'm glad he's gone. I was a fan until last season when the going got tough and jeff got going.
It's not quite as black and white as that, but I understand this sentiment. Other players around the league were in the same situation, but they didn't respond by absolutely sucking night after night, which coupled with his public desire to be traded absolutely poisoned the market for him. For that I say...good riddance.

I loved Romanov's hitting, but he really didn't have the puck handling / skating / playmaking ability you want to see in a good top 4 dman. I'm ok with this trade.

Every game against Minnesota is the same...I have to question why I even bother to watch at this point.
