I figure we'd be lucky to make the playoffs anyway so a Vezina-level goaltender isn't really critical this year. If needed, I think Niemi can do a credible job -- better than most of the backup goalies we have had in the recent past.
As long as Price is in form in time for next season ...

Armia was Kotkaniemi's idol growing up so I think he's gonna try hard to get Armia on the scoresheet.
(Which is still not the weirdest "player grew up idolizing a non-superstar" in Habs history. That goes to Pacioretty, who idolized Jed Ortmeyer. Yup. Jed Ortmeyer.)
(First post this season after just lurking for a while ...)
It's actually not all that weird -- they both grew up in Pori, a small town (maybe 80K people) on the west coast of Finland, and both played in the Assat organization. Armia is seven years older, was a top young forward and got drafted. That's enough for a young player to look up to him.

Boone noted Subban's last even strength goal was March 17th and Markov also with zero goals at even strength this season.
I guess Subban was listening to that!
-
Marner with his 2nd ppg... just in 3rd period and now 5-5 in wacky game.
Two goals for Marner -- but also four minors. The Finns played well but undisciplined play really cost the Canadian team.
-
And they'll get to do so again next year. Ticket prices are already out and I think they're more expensive than last time. Clearly Hockey Canada didn't learn their lesson...or didn't care.
The early TV ratings in Finland have been pretty good for the tournament.
Finland - Belarus: 1,389,000 unique viewers
Czechs - Russia: 666,000
Canada - USA: 613,000
That's not TSN numbers by any stretch but not half bad either.
For a population of 5.4M ... that's more 25% of the country tuned into the Belarus game.
They're starved for free hockey coverage, though, both NHL and the Finnish elite league are pay TV only.

Well .. if we lose every game playing that well, I'm ok with it.
Kind of, I suppose. Far better than losing by stinking out the joint.
-
That was a great snipe.... Something we are missing.
Weise did come close just a minute earlier, though.

Only thing hurt on Stamkos is his broken confidence.
But that is badly broken ...
-
That hurts ... I've taken slapshots on the mask, and DD's slapshot is well beyond the ones I have faced.
-
We got this.
I hope so ... we deserve it.
-
Nice move by Emelin taking the puck off Stamkos, turned into a two-on-one.
-
Oooohhh ... I thought we were done right there!
-
Both Plekanec and DD are not generating much opportunities for their wingers. Eller is by far the best centre. Therrien should give him better linemates; he deserves it.
Yes ... but you specifically said they were brutal on face-offs. The stats don't bear that out.
-
Markhov was brutal tonight. DD and Plekanec were terrible on the face-offs. Eller by far the best centre and he was not on the ice at the end. Therrien!
Plekanec 47%, Desharnais 54% -- not brutal, I think. Eller was 86% so we overall we did well from the face-offs.
-
Well, at least Pacioretty got another goal in the series ...
Shots 43-20 for the game ... but much of the Sens shots were pretty harmless.
-
Huge shutout for Price and the team. First time Ottawa was shutout. Gotta give the Sens credit. A great season for them and they sure gave us a scare
Yeah, plenty enough scare for me!
-
-
Five minutes ... only five Sens shots in the third so far.
-
All swedish no finnish
We have an aversion to finnish players these days ...
-
Damn ... that should have been 2-0 right there.
-
I missed the first part of the game (what's with the early start) ... the shot totals in the 2nd are terrible, but I like how they are driving for the front of the net.
-
Nice PP work by the Flames in the 3rd, with a tip into the net. Doesn't need huge size ... I sure hope MT is watching and getting some ideas.
-
Not really...most of those were easy saves because Habs forwards are too small and/or lazy to drive the net hard and battle to establish and keep a screen in place. It's not like he was robbing guys on grade A scoring chances.
Not arguing on shot quality, but size is not what's losing us these games.
