Beaudin is 7th D! 😮
-
It's really very, very close. Arizona and Vancouver are behind the Habs only because of our three-game winning streak, and that can easily swing back in the other direction.
-
That was a pretty ugly finish but props to RHP for yet another goal!
Did anyone see what happened to Barron?
-
Fortunately you jinxed it!

I didn't because they seem to need more time. Norlinder is another guy that I didn;t add, even if he is not doing so well in the AHL. He may still turn into a decent D
The Habs will have some young Ds available to trade in a couple of years
I viewed your list as a futures list rather than next season, given the absence of Matheson and Savard.

now that Mailloux is back on the fold, the D prospects and rookies look promising:
Guhle-Barron
Harris-Mailloux
Xhekaj-Kovacevic
with Matheson-Savard as the veterans going forward
Edmundson should be traded for the greatest return possible
I would add Hutson and Engstrom to your list.

Hope so, he is still just playing vs mostly high school kids, so not sure (...)
And so is Conor Bedard and every other draft prospect.
Am personally more interested in what he can do in the AHL than the last part of the OHL season. But it certainly would be nice to have another solid prospect for our defence corps.

Drouin now 17a in 31 games. He might yet find a new contract in the NHL, though not anywhere close to his current salary.
-
Second period already much more wide-open, shots for the period are already up to 4-3 at the halfway point!

I might skip the second and pick it up sometime in the third.
If you do, you might miss a shot on goal. Or maybe even two!

Dvorak was basically a 35-40 point guy with Arizona who played a decent 2 way game and could kill penalties. I think there was a hope that he would step it up here. He hasn't and may struggle to get 30 points this year. So I agree that he has been a disappointment. Maybe our expectations were higher than they should have been.
No doubt that Hughes would likely trade him in a heartbeat if he got a decent offer as Beck will likely emerge to take his spot.
50-point pace for the Habs last year. But, no, he's no star, my point was mostly that he's at least as good as Kotkaniemi, so we did not lose in this debacle. Coyotes came out the winner, I think, although that took them another trade yet.
-
Kotkaniemi is now 8+13 for the season, exactly the same as Dvorak. Similar shooting percentage and faceoff percentage, too. Kotkaniemi is utilized in a more offensive role, though, 2/3 offensive zone starts while Dvorak is mostly defensive zone starts.
And we are not locked into a Dvorak contract until 2030 ...

RHP has shown more at various levels than Pitlick did before last season.
RHP might be the real deal as a second or third line player.
I don't think he's going to keep the pace he's on.... but he's shown capable of being gallagher-lite (prime gallagher, not the one we have today).
That's my feeling, too. The sample size is still very small, but just maybe ...

Call up Trudeau?...no more Wideman please!
After this weekend's (likely) two wins, I would like more Wideman, please.

So, shall we use this game as Exhibit #1 for the case that faceoffs don't matter all that much?
Halfway through the game, the Habs are 16.7% in the circle, Dvorak at 37.5%, Suzuki at 10% ... and everyone else a flat zero. And yet, the Oilers are being blanked 3-0. 🤔

If we pick up a silver lining reclamation project, I’d rather pick up a guy like Puljarjarvi, who I think has more upside, but taking the cap hit off the oilers, and giving them a guy like moving a Edmondson, should still allow us to get a first rounder plus another puck or decent prospect.
I think Hugo should prioritize drafting and trading for prospects who have names that are easy to spell. 😂

I would pick Kieffer off waivers and send Ylonen or Belzile down
Are you proposing this to improve the team or to improve the lottery odds?
-
And if there are too many good-quality young LD, we can always trade one.
-
As expected, Ylonen and Belzile are back on the roster; their stint with the Rocket was only for the duration of the NHL all-star break.

With what I’ve seen, he looks like a quality 3rd pair D on a cup contending team
It's still early in his development -- and cup-contending teams can be built in many different ways.

One-way contract, no performance bonuses, according to Capfriendly.

I wonder which sweaters they are wearing ...

In short, I’ll accept a team that is less that a Tampa-style powerhouse provided it’s a top-10 club with a realistic chance at going deep over a number of seasons. That, to me, is all we can reasonably ask for, really.
Right. That's essentially what I was looking to describe with my A-/B+ grade.
-
A grade-A- or B+ contender would already be something. Then, at that point you could arguably say that "in playoffs anything can happen",
