Part 1 - Michael Ryder's significance to the team
In his 3 seasons here, he has never given us any reason to think that he has not already peaked and that he will be a one-dimensional thirty goal-scorer for the rest of his career.
His first season all he did was hustle (and score goals), his second season he started hitting (and scored goals), in this last season he could skate (and score goals). Also during last season he started actually skating with the puck, something he wasn't able to do in his first two season (not without being rubbed out along the boards). He's improved each year, just not in point totals. This year he'll get 80 pts (40-40)... remember, I said it first.

Streit will be our #1 D, powerplay quartback, #1 penalty killer and #1AA goalie by the end of teh year. He will also lead the league in hits.

I'd say the Habs weakness is that they don't have a blue chip prospect...I suppose Price qualifies but there is not real superstar position player in waiting within the Habs system. They have quality and depth, and one may develop into that superstar but currently there is no stand out position player that makes you say "wow". JMHO.
Corey Locke.

get the Varieté theme pckg for 6.99/mth.

While Markov has a reputation for being quiet I remember hearing someone (whom I can't name at the moment) say this about him: Once he's on the ice, he never shuts up.
-
Choice 2, he's going to get better and we need to keep him around for it.

8 Comrie 3 million
Comrie-Smolinski-Kovalev
-
Yeah, I don't like the third pairing either but there is nothing else we can do except for what I wrote at the bottom of my post.
There's always Gorges.
-
Latendresse - Koivu - Ryder
Lahti - Smolinski - Kovalev
Higgins - Plekanec - Kostitsyn
Begin - Lapierre - Streit
Markov - Komisarek
Hamrlik - O'Byrne
Bouillon - Dandenault
Huet
Halak
As of right now, it seems that this is the most likely scenario. Another option is using Grabovski as 2nd line LW and then shifting Streit to defence. Also, this depends on O'Byrne being ready.
As much as I don't like it (I really want to see Latendresse-Smolinski-Ryder and hate the idea of the Bouillon-Dandenault pairing) that seems to be a really probable lineup.
-
Ryder will surprise everyone this year.
-
Oh and picture Smolinski as a derek Roy in buffalo he isnt a scorer but he plays with talent, and montreal has talent.
I see him more as a Yannick Perreault who can play defense.
-
Rumours are that he's going to retire for sure now that Anaheim picked up Bertuzzi. It'd be nice if we could land Selanne, but who would we move over to LW?
-
D or LW, we still don't have a single LW who is NHL ready.
-
The only issue I have with the Smolinsky signing is that we'll never get a chance to see Latendresse-Lapierre-Ryder...
3rd lien will be: Lahti-Smolinsky-Kovalev.
-
Nagy wouldn't be too bad, but I don't understand Bertuzzi... we're stacked at RW as it is. Yashin can be good or bad: 2 years, play him with Kovalev and pray. A better option would be Handzus. LW is by far are most pressing need... I really hope we do something about it.The word from Bleu, Blanc et Rouge now is that Gainey may be interested in Nagy and possibly Bertuzzi and Yashin. -
You're probably right. For some reason I had it in my head that he was looking for 5-6 million a year and had been discounting him because I didn't want to see us overpay like that, but for 4 a year, he's just catapulted to the top of my list. Four years at 16 million, for a Super-Bonk? Damn right. So who do you think would play on his LW (RW Kovalev)? Latendresse? How about Zubrus?Injuries aside, I'd take Handzus over him, because he seems to be a better role player if he doesn't work out as one of the top C's. Zubrus is such a gamble for our team. I just don't see the benefit. -
My #1 choice for our FA forward pick-up (because we'd be more likely to get him without overpaying), after him is Stefan, than Smolinski, Ortmeyer, and Asham to round out the top 5.

X-Lapierre-Ryder
X is:
Latendresse - physical line
Lahti - give Ryder power play time and he'll still get his 30 goals.
Higgins - unlikely to break up HPK, either Lats ot Lahts could take his place
I really want to see Koivu-Kovalev, and I think Ryder could do well with Lapierre as long as he's given someone to work with on the opposite wing.

I take it you don't think that Latendresse and Chipchura will be in Montreal in 4 years? Why doesn't anybody realize that you won't see this guy in Montreal for like 3 or years. Half the players you guys are mentioning will probably not even be in Montreal in 4 years time. -
If we take him he's Ribs, if we pass on him he's Vinny.
We winded up with two very good players. Pacioretty is a guy who does everything right but just lacks consistency. Could be interesting playing opposite Latendresse with a center like Plekanec between them.
More likely to play with Chipchura and Latendresse. That'll be a big mean line.
-
Samsonov will rebound this year... the question is if it will be with the Habs.
-
He was a -7 with 1 goal the first half of the season while playing about 15 minutes per game.
The second half he was +4 with 5 goals same playing time.
But by his own admission he played much better in the 2nd half, he also potted 2 goals in the playoffs.
I thought everyone here had agreed that +/- is a meaningless stat. We'd have to rewatch the entire season to prove what I'm talking about, because being in position is not a stat.

If Grabovski can show he can play on either the second or third line then he will probably stick with us for the season with Murray as the odd-man out. Lapierre, even playing badly, can do anything Murray can and more (except lose fights) so he's pretty much guaranteed a spot. chipchura has also shown that he cna play on the fourth and I'm thinking that using him on the first here is more about seeing the other centers in their appropriate positions than him earning a spot.
