  1. Gabovsky didn't seem ready, Zubrus would be a short-term replacement (so it's unlikely because I think he was looking for a 4 year deal). The big question is Lapierre. Will he be able to fill in for Bonk if we add another offensive center? If so, what happens to him when Chipchura is ready?

  2. All I am saying is Id rather go for the 6'3", 207 lb Akim Aliu (the guy who refused to submit to hazing in his first season with sudbury and got in a fight with "superstar" Downie) This kid as size, talent and most importantly...INTEGRITY. He wont be ready to go this season, but a couple of seasons in Hamilton and this kid will do great things.
I like his attitude regarding the hazing, but can he play?

So true. I could live with Drury - Koivu as our 1-2 punch. Don't care who's 1 and who's 2, but I think we'd be disappointed in the end if we got Briere because he wouldn't fit our system (Carbo won't change, I hope he will, but i know he won't). Lecavalier would be awesome, but I think he wants nothing to do with the pressure cooker of playing here.

    1-2-3 punch, don't forget plex.

  4. BTH, what do you mean one of the most talented teams in the league? Who on this team was in the top 25 in any category besides Souray and Goals? Remember he is also the team worst minus 28 which cancels his goals right out?

Komisarek: 4th in hits, 14th in takeaways for D, 17th in weight, 20th in minor penalties, 10th in penalty minutes, tied for 1st in goals SH for D, 2nd in SH points for D.

Markov: 9th in takeaways, 1st in takeaways for D, 17th in points for D, 9th in assists for D,

    Plenaec: 15th in takeaways,

Souray: 22nd in takeaways, 2nd in takeaways for D, tied for 5th in OT goals, 5th in PP points, 12th in minor penalties, 3rd in points for D, 1st in GWG for D, 2nd in shots for D, tied for 3rd SH goals for D, tied for fourth SH points for D, 2nd in shooting % for D.

Koivu: 10th in faceoffs won, 9th in PP points

Begin: 12th in hits by a forward

Latendressse: 13th in hits by a forward, 11th in points by a rookie, 1st in hits by a rookie, 17th in takeaways by a rookie

Ryder: 25th in hits by a forward, 5th in PP goals

Bonk: 4th in block shots by a forward

Higgins: tied for 10th in SH goals

    Bouillon: 2nd in shortness

    Samsonov: 7th in shortness

    Downey: 15th in misconduct penalties

Lapierre: 4th in hits by a rookie, 6th in faceoffs won and taken by a rookie.

Halak: 2nd in wins by a rookie, 2nd in shutouts by a rookie, tied for first in shorthanded save % (did not let in any PP goals)

    Huet: 11th in save %

    Streit: 10th in shooting % for D

    Just for fun.

  5. People seem to be falling over themselves asking for big changes. All we need is a little tweaking and retooling. The Canadiens that we saw in the beginning and end of the season were the real Habs, not what we had in January and February. Ignoring the larger implications of the following, Montreal led the league in come from behind wins. That is something to smile about. With the improvements of all our younger players next year all we need to do to be a #1 team is keep the three major roles that are about to go UFA filled.

Shutdown center: Bonk filled that role perfectly. Can we get Bonk back? Or will we sign someone else to do the job? Worst case scenario is giving the role to someone like Murray.

Shot from point: Can we find anyone better for this role than Souray? Keep in mind, Chara is not available.

#1 Puck moving D: Markov has filled a number of roles for us and there is no replacement available (maybe Timmonen).

As long as we make sure those three roles are filled, we will progress next year. Pleks, Higgins and Ryder will all have another year under their belt. Expect Komi to continue improving. Kosty and Lapierre will get a chance to show what they can do through a full season. Perez too hopefully. This was year 4 (of the 5 year plan... the one we've been stuck at year 3 for the last 5).

Fearless prediction: Koivu will have a career year next year.

    Hopeful prediction: Stanley Cup.

  6. Can we at least agree that harry Neale is the most useless colour guy in recorded human history?

I don't like ANY colour commentators. I rate the broadcasts by two things.. how much the commentators talk about the actual game that is playing and how unbiased they are (or at the least biased towards the Canadiens).

Yes - that was almost like being in an arena live..... I was lovin' that!!!!!!!!!
And we'll never get to see that again... I just want a broadcast where I can choose to turn off the commentators but not mute the entire thing.
  7. Well put....but then again I don't understand why everyone (mostly) is so high on Perez. His game lacks creativity of any kind and he reminds me of Antropov. Impressive no? :puke:
I'm on of the few people who would have loved to have Antropov on our team.. not anymore, but I'd probably take him over Johnson.
  8. I still would like to see Perezhogin get a good chance. Would love to see him get a shot with Koivu and Ryder on the left side.

    Perez Koivu Ryder

    Higgins Plekanec Kostysyn

    Begin Bonk Johnson

    Latendresse Laperiere Kovalev

Not that Streit has been playing bad there, but seems like Perez would be a good fit there.

Maybe we should move Laperierre to D as well :)

  9. In other words:

1- We don't play good hockey for 60 minutes every game

2- We use a defensive system that is not appropriate for our players, but when we have no choice but to open up the game, we can score goals as well as any other team in the NHL.

that's about it. If you watch our games against Buffalo, our best hockey is when we are running and gunning.

  10. They are in the bottom 5 in every category besides PP and Short handed goals.
They are fifth in Win % after trailing through 1 period (behind Tampa, Detroit, Minnesota, Atlanta) and tied for fifth with Buffalo in Win % when trailing through 2 periods (behind Detroit, Tampa, Dallas).. and we have double the amount of wins under those circumstances than Buffalo.
  11. Perez does everything. He plays responsible defensive hockey, he's got a great wrist shot, he can walk through people, he's fast enough, he's not a bad passer and he hits like a truck. He may be one of the hardest hitters Montreal has (obviously not as hard as Komi.. but probably about as hard as Begin).

  12. Where else would he play? They tried playing him opposite Ryder and that was a disaster.. so the only way to play Kovy with Koivu is to put Ryder with Lapierre and Begin.. he'd have even less success.

    RW

    Ryder

    Kostitsyn

    Kovalev

    Johnson

Don't forget that Latendresse and Perezhogin are both RW as well. So... if we want Ryder to play well, he needs to be with Koivu, and Kostitsyn is working well with Pleks. What this means is that Kovalev can either play with Bonk (which I would prefer) or Lapierre. Carbo doesn't want to break up Johnson and Bonk.. so that's where Kovalev ends up. It's kind of what Kovalev needs.. two guys to do the work for him so he can be the individual hero.
