I will always resent Maxwell for not being Milan Lucic.
-
He's getting 5 million a year, that isn't too shabby for him, or for the Stars if he continues at a PPG.
I'd much rather have Higgins, Komisarek and Plekanec locked up over that time.
-
This game should be exciting to watch... any word if Sammy will make his grand return to Montreal?
GO HABS GO!!!
Isn't he in the AHL these days? Probably forever?
We have to pull out two points from the western conference for once, although I wouldn't mind if it went to OT because I like Chicago. But two points for us!
-
From what he said, it doesn't look like he'll be out searching for a big trade, although he'd of course go for it if it fell in to his lap. He'll be looking for some veteran centerman who can win face-offs, if anyone. Think Brian Smolinski.

Thanks for the recap, although I was kinda hoping for more exciting news.

Personally I dont know what your talking aboot saying Price and focus. So far I dont think Price has had great focus. In several games he should have had a shutout and he has yet to get 1. The majority of the blown shutouts goals have been easy goals he should have stopped.
For one, I don't care about blown shutouts, a win is a win.
And I am saying Price and focus because he has proven to be a huge big game player. You don't waltz into the World Juniors and the AHL playoffs and take the MVP in the same year without having a lot of focus. At the NHL level he's been good, not jaw-droppingly amazing but good. This is the first game we've lost that we can squarely point the blame to him. In numerous other games he's kept us in the game when we didn't deserve to be, or he's done enough to get us a win when we play well. He's also won us some shootouts practically single-handedly (which would require a lot of focus). There have been more games that we can pin the blame for the loss on Huet.
-
Price looked like he took it hard judging by the post-game interview. He seems to be mentally tough, so I think he should be able to rebound. I'd definitely start him on Tuesday.
-
- According to the Montreal Gazette, the Rangers have inquired about Canadiens RW Michael Ryder, who has not been performing well in his contract year.
I wonder who they would give up who could be of any value to us.

Habs game > World juniors
That is all.
Seriously.
I'm getting tired of Canada's arrogance. Can't we win without all the fanboy drooling from the booth? Pierre McGuire calling that fluky first goal a 'spectacular statement play,' ugh.
-
I'm hoping I dont' see Price in the net for a good long while.
That's being a little extreme, he seems like the type of guy who can respond well to advesity and rebound.
But damn did he suck today. I think he's lost some focus in the last few weeks, maybe this will jolt him back. The defense didn't help out either on two of the goals, they just backed off and let the Caps players come into the slot to shoot.
And WHAT WAS CARBO THINKING PUTTING KOSTY BROS, GORGES AND BOUILLON ON AT ONCE IN OT?!?!?!?! I saw that and immediately had a sinking feeling. It was Big ####' mistake that really led to the goal, but come on, if you're going to put two young offensive forwards out than you should back them up with at least one of Hamrlik, Komi or Markov. That was terrible coaching.
But all in all this was a game that we deserved to win, that we should have won. The goals against us were weak and we missed a few open nets. Then there was that quick whistle. Pretty disappointing, but at least we got a point.
Kovalev played like a captain today.

This game time really doesnt make sense for any of the rumored reasons.
it actually CONFLICTS with the WJC final which is just crazy.
As far as the NFL playoffs, well the fanbase over laps, but not that much. Hockey fans are still gonna watch hockey and they would prefer it on a saturday night.
Saturday afternoons are for family, errands, work around the house, etc...and for sleeping off hangovers occasionally.
Still looking forward to that PIT / JAC night game though.
It's definitely the NFL playoffs. Wildcard weekend is huge in the States and Canada (considering one of the teams involved is American), and there is a large overlap in fan base especially in the States.
I'm happy cause I have 10 hours of awesome sports viewing. Much beer will be drunk!
And to Cataclaw, what is the story behind that Kovalev picture?
-
Let's not forget that Bégin is one of the few players on this team(with the exception of Komisa-REX) who isn'T afraid of throwing himself in front of shots in order to block them!
Yeah I love Bégin.
He doesn't have to play every night though. Same with Brisebois, I hope they don't put Gorges on the shelf.
-
Come on, no crappy showing of the afternoon Habs.
-
Price should have been starting anyway. Huet just played a few games in a row including two back-to-back games, he shouldn't be playing another two consecutive games, he'll get worn out.
Yeah I agree. I really don't mind if Price gets a few in, I just hope Huet isn't out for more than four games.

According to an article writen by Pat Hickey and posted on montrealgazette.com, it has nothing to do with the NFL:
"Fans are reminded tomorrow's game against Washington starts at 12:30 p.m. The Canadiens wanted to play an afternoon game and the unusual starting time is to accommodate RDS, which will pick up the world junior final at 3 p.m."
Hopefully, RDS will have been wise to give the Habs the earlier start, because Team Canada will be playing for gold.
I think Pat Hickey is wrong, doesn't the final start at like 2 on TSN?

If Alexander Ovechkin was willing to come to Montreal, and I was in charge of the team, the converstation would go something like this:
Me: Mike, Ovechkin is coming....and it's contingent on being able to keep his number.
Komi: But I really like wearing number 8...I'm not sure how I feel about that.
Me: Let me break it down for you, Komi. We're talking about Alexander F-ing Ovechkin here. You can either give him your number and embrace another number, or you can be stubborn and insist on keeping number 8. Just know that you'll be wearing number 8 on another team, because if I have to trade you to make that number available, I'd do it in a heartbeat in this situation. It's your call.
Sounds like you'd be a dick GM who would alienate his players.
Good to get Ryder going to up his value as trade bait. I like many others don't see him sticking around next season, and we've shown that we can be good enough without him, so we should try not to let him walk for nothing.

Can anyone tell me why we're playing at 12:30 on Saturday?
NFL Playoffs.
I'm really glad how we played tonight in front of the home crowd. Kovy came out flying, and Chips was awesome the whole way through. His line always had the Lightning pinned in their own zone. Good to see Ryder get a pair, nice ones too, he's always been streaky but hopefully he's coming around. Higgins was great again. Same with Plekanec, he is such a complete player.
But the game was hardly perfect. Huet did his best imitation of a statue on the first goal, and he was so slow getting over for the third. Honestly, does he have a quota of one softie per game? If he was in Ramo's place, it might have gone to double digits. He was alright though,A. Kost played really poorly besides his goal, but that's just the kind of offensive threat he can be. And seriously, we must have set the record for cough-ups in the defensive zone, it was non-stop out there. Luckily we were playing a bad team.
Overall a good win and really fun to watch. I hope Price gets the start on Saturday, and we gotta really take it to them. These are points that we should get and that we need.
-
I have a bad feeling that they'll come out flat. Three day layoff, home game...
Man I hope I'm wrong. We gotta put something together at home.
-
I think they should implement a rule as if you get in a fight you helmet should be taken off before the fight. It would prevent alot of injuries because i would think punching plastic may hurt a bit.
Then there's the risk of hitting your head on the ice when you're taken down.

We have soccer and baseball for them and the weak stomached fans that like to watch them play with balls.
Yeah, all those billions of soccer fans and baseball fans are nothing more than a bunch of weak-stomached pussies.
Most people don't watch hockey for the fighting, they enjoy the skill plays more.
NHL'ers do not take steroids. We arent that type of sport.I don't see any reason to believe that besides being extremely naive. Why wouldn't hockey players use performance-enhancing drugs to get ahead when there are millions of dollars on the line? Are they better people? Of course there are hockey players who take steroids. However, I doubt it's as widespread as it has become in baseball or even football, but it's probably getting there.
-
If we hosted it on the river we could have some accidental thin ice for stars from rival teams.
-
Kovalev, by a mile. He went from being an exasperating goat who came to play about 10 times all of last year to our best player on the ice night after night. He's winning back my heart, he was so careless with it...
-
Glad to see that A. Nipples had a good game. It looks like Hamrlik made the costly mistake, I've noticed a slight drop in his play lately. But he's generally really solid.
I just hope we keep up the energy and focus for our homestand.
-
Again...all the more reason to have a pure goon on the team.
I don't think it would have made a difference in this case, they were going after him for the (clean) hit he dished out to some Panthers player I forget.

Price has not been his best lately, but I don't know where you're coming from saying Chipchura has sucked lately. He was dominant against the Lightning, and was pretty good against the Capitals besides the face-off issue.
I guess this is a good move for Price to give him more playing time with the spread out schedule and Huet's recent stint of being decent. But the Chipchura move I don't agree with, sure he was losing face-offs but he was playing damned well besides that. This gives Smolinski more of a chance to redeem himself, he better come through. He was supposed to be good at face-offs, but he's been good at nothing. I really don't expect to see much from Locke, but meh. We'll see our two boys back up here in not too long. Price at least will definitely be back to finish the season because he's a big game player.
