  1. Look at Kolzig's stats this year and for much of the last 3 years. At 37 he is no longer an NHL starter caliber goalie imo.
  2. No arguing that the best goalie in the AHL has NHL starter potential.
  3. Yes. I actually saw him get on the plane to Montreal this morning...somehow I missed Halak however as he was supposed to be on the same flight.
  4. I like Huet and I supported him, but think about that...Huet has 6 career playoff games experience, a lost series and he absolutely stunk in the final game of the series. It's not like we gave up any real playoff experience. Now is not the time to judge this trade, after the playoffs is the time. Listen, if the Internet was around in 1986, people would have been trashing Serge Savard & Jean Peron for risking the teams future on an unproven rookie like Roy. Note, the team that everyone picked as bottom feeders is sitting in 5th place...the sky is not falling.
  5. Huet was great for us, but personally, I just did not see him as a clutch goalie who could win the big games. We have to consider that he was basically a throw-in in the Bonk trade. He was a border line goalie before we got him and nobody expected much from him. I think we need to consider Huet a nice surprise, but not our future.
  6. How do you figure we hurt our chances for the playoff by trading a goalie with a whopping 6 games playoff experience and one lost series to his credit? We may have hurt our chances of getting to the playoffs, but the next couple of months will prove or disprove that. Hal Gill is under contract next season, Huet is not, hence the difference in return.
  7. Thanks for the memories Christobal...now on to the future. There has to be more than meets the eye going on here, like maybe Huet asked to be dealt? Or a secondary deal fell through? I for one liked Huet, but the time for a change was getting near anyway...I'm very comfortable with Price/Halak. Either way, makes me look much smarter for buying a number 31 Price jersey at the star of the year
  8. Are you sure you don't want to reconsider
  9. Ya, it's definitely a stretch but if Gainey does succeed in bringing in Hossa or Jokinen, he'll have to free up cap space somewhere and he's currently paying 3 goalies, no? Just tossing it out there.
  10. Anyone consider that the early announcement of Price starting might mean Gainey is shopping Huet before the deadline?
  11. Actually most Leaf fans I've talked to are pretty happy with Toskola and feel he's just about the only part of the team worth keeping, Raycroft sadly does suck...not a knock, a statistical fact. I'm not too worried about our goalies at this point...like mentioned above, they,re both in a slump and are both better than they are playing. As long as they come out of their funk and hopefully one steps up their game to take the number 1 spot for good we'll be fine. We still have a nice cushion of points, if you want to panic...try being a Philly fan
  12. Huet is a 1B goalie who in the recent past has shown signs of being a 1A. To me he is a starting goalie, just not good enough to be our starting goalie. We're a team with a 1B, 1C & 1D goalie (you pick your own order). One of them needs to step up and be a consistent 1A+ (all three have the potential...hell, Danis even has the potential but will never get another chance the poor guy).
  13. It is a big step to the NHL, it's so much faster and the shooters are so much more savvy. The frustrating part is that he's had 4 or 5 games where he's been amazing...he can do it, but why can't he do it consistently? Very frustrating and confusing.
  14. Yes the Gumper was awesome...not much to look at, but clutch and one of the funniest men in the history of the game...gotta love the gumper. Price has played a couple of amazing full games, I just don't get why he is not consistent game to game. He was so solid last year for the Bulldogs in the playoffs, maybe he does need some more seasoning...I hate to admit it, I keep waiting for him to turn it on, but maybe the Montreal pressure cooker is getting to him. For me, Halak has proved nothing..but, I will give that he deserves at least a 3 game stint with the Habs based on his efforts last year. I thought he was inconsistent too last year for the Habs, but he does deserve a shot...maybe the trade deadline will provide that one way or the other?
  15. Yes, I'll give to that. Bottom line, I don't think he cost us the game, but he didn't give us a chance to win it. The team is what it is, young and inconsistent. They may still pull it together, over all I'm pleasantly surprised by the team this year...but like any Habs fan, I WANT MORE
  16. I'm a 40+ year vet too and I agree without a clutch goalie, forget it. Price has proved at all levels except the NHL he is that clutch goaltender, I'm just hoping he finds it soon in the NHL...he's shown brief flashes of it while Huet has proved to me he is not a clutch goaltender. Huet has been an amazing stop gap guy after the Theo meltdown and the Abby fiasco...a really tough time for the team, but he's not the guy that will ever take us to the Cup in my opinion. To many people confuse stats with good goaltending. The best goalies don't always have the best stats...if you can't win the big games and bring home the hardware, who the hell cares about your save percentage. Even though I never like Roy's attitude, there's no arguing he was one of the best clutch goalies ever. Dryden, his best gift was that he was able to lean on his stick for 15 minutes and the make a couple of amazing saves. To me, Dryden's strongest suit was he could face 8 shots in a whole game but be sharp for every one of them...any goalie will tell you that ain't easy,
  17. Ok, I'll give to that point. Leclaire stepped up, Price didn't. But once again, Price was FAR from alone in the not stepping up department...clearly a team loss.
  18. I totally disagree. Price is a raw rookie who has actually stolen a couple of games for us and has a winning record. Would a rookie back up goalie have even gotten a chance to play 25 games if there wasn't issues with our starter? Look at the 2 goalies stats..are Huet's stats 2 million per year better than Price's? Nope. Huet has been horribly inconsistent necessitating more starts for his rookie backup. I want both of our goalies to do well, fact is BOTH are brutally inconsistent and I'm going to bet Halak would be too. I still am baffled that anyone can blame a 3-0 loss on a goalie...COME ON PRICE, YOU SHOULD HAVE SCORED A COUPLE
  19. I was impressed with Leclaire tonight...but I've got to tell you I'm getting really tired of French Canadian goalies coming home to stone the Habs! There should be a law against it
  20. Watch him in another teams uniform? One way or another I seriously doubty Huet will be a Habs next year. He'll want a big raise and unless he does a 180, he's not earning his current salary, why would Gainey give him a big raise?
  21. I'm not against giving him a shot and if he'd have played that Leaf game last year we probably would have been in the playoffs...my point is blaming a 3-0 game on a goalie is ludicrous...if you don't score even one goal, you don't win...no point in analyzing our goalie when we can't even beat their goalie once. Does that make sense to anyone but me?
  22. LOL, Price is the kid. Seriously, if people insist on dumping on a goalie (I don't), dump on the 3 million dollar man who isn't cutting it not the rookie. Why is Huet so bulletproof here? If he wasn't sucking so badly Price would be riding the pines. Don't blame the work in progress, blame our "go to guy" who's clearly gone south.
  23. Maybe not tonight, but over all you may be right the last couple of weeks.
  24. Huet is not playing like a starter, the job has always been his but he's just not stepping up to the plate. He has sucked his last 4 or 5 outings...he seems terrified a 20 year old rookie is breathing down his neck, he's been given plenty of chances of late and blown every one..what does it say about him when Carbo is FORCED to go with a hot and cold 20 year old rookie? Time to step up and actually EARN your 3 mil salary Mr. Huet!
  25. Check the replays on the goals. Goal 1 was a cross ice pass that the D should not have allowed, no goalie is stopping that. Goal 2 was a stinker...5 hole, no excuse. Goal 3 was a toss up who was at fault but it was irrelevant. NEVER in the history of the NHL has a team won a game scoring ZERO goals. Blaming the goalie for this loss is nothing more than grasping at straws! Halak is not the answer, more grasping at straws. Halak had his chance to shine last year and was average at best posting 10-6 and played a few awful games. Halak is 5-3 since back in the AHL, not spectacular. Price and Huet need to step up for sure, but please don't blame either when their team can't score even one goal!
