1. My father was a passionate Habs fan and some of my favorite memories are sitting around HNIC with my Dad and brothers watching the Habs in the playoffs. My favorite cup was 1986 because when I was a kid they won all the time, but by 1986 some of the magic had begun to fade. This Cup restored my faith that the universe was unfolding as it should.:)

My son, now 2.5 already has his own Habs jersey and I plan on continuing the family tradition. Soon, we will start reading The Hockey Sweater together.

Remember, Hossa played several good games when he first came up with us. That doesn't make him a star. If I were you, kaos, I'd stick those Hossa rookie cards in my bike spokes and move on

Actually, Roo-Ah! Roo-AH I was agreeing with you but everybody ignored my main points in favor of my throw away line about Hossa. To clarify... I am not upset about the Hossa trade because he is having a few good games but rather because his potential is still much higher than either murray or Dags. Without wishing Hossa ill I hope that this trade becomes a wash...I cant see how it can be a win for us but, then thats why Bob's in charge.

I replied to your post because I too get tired of knee-jerk reactions based on the short-term. Despite our deficiencies the team is playing very well and any trade could well be counter-productive(unless of course BG gets an offer of a decent player or a draft pick for Dags):)

Even in Dags case, I still think he can be an effective goalscorer, but I'm not so sure he's going to do it in Montreal.

Just as I posted this I heard Dags score on the delayed broadcast I'm listening to.

  3. I was just thinking... poor Steve Begin, doomed to toil in obscurity for the Habs. Just think, if he were playing for the Maple Laughs, the screaming blue whinies, he'd be famous because Don Cherry would be cumming in his pants everytime that Steve was on the ice..." now that's old-time Canadian hockey!":)

Seriously though, SB was to quote Shortcat "a steal and a gift" for the Habs... and now he's even scoring goals. :king:

  4. I'm all for patience. In fact, I wish Bob had found a way to keep Hossa around(sigh).

As for Theo, I think he will be fine. Look on the bright side. Our goalie is playing mediocre hockey and we are still 6-2:)

However, I tjhink Red Fisher said it best recently on goalies complaining about the "new NHL":

"Just stop the (expletive deleted) puck!"

  5. Thanks for an interesting discussion Simonous. It actually did me good to read the rules that I tend to skirt around

Shortcat: the international copyright laws are very similar around the world. If I'm not mistaken the WTO has been flexing its muscles on this issue. In the UAE right now, there is strict crackdown on the sale of pirated videos and music which were sold quite openly just a few years ago.

    And, NOOOW.... back to hockey

First loss of the season :puke:

  6. Which was my point... the Gazette, if they felt site traffic was an issue, would be much more likely to ask for such a practise to stop. In which case, such posts would be deleted or banned---the end. Only if they objected and HW and its members continued the practice would it come to a court case. Such an eventuality is more unlikely in Canada than in the US.

Anyway, I usually prefer to voice my own opinion's but sometimes Red's expression is hard to beat:)

Ah, Grasshopper, but I can. ;)

The fair use provisions of copyright law allow limited copies of an article to be distributed in an educational setting for the edification of those involved and what I was doing was using Red's Article to further enlighten the faithful as to Koivu's gifts.

If that argument doesn't wash, how about this: Fairuse Guidelines are open to interpertation and I believe that my limited use of this article falls under that provision because I used it in a limited forum--in a not for profit way-- and my actions were unlikely to cause financial, or other harm, either to the Gazette or Mr. Fisher. The only way there would be a problem is if the Gazette disagreed with my interpertation; they would ask the Fourum to stop allowing such posts. In such a circumstance the Mods would have to ban such posts or face the possiblity of legal action.

Copyright law is not so cut and dried as you seem to think and Internet posts are even more of a grey area.

  8. This should be required reading for all of the "experts" who claim Montreal doesnt have a "true" first line center

Captain K leads Canadiens past rudderless Leafs

    Canadiens 5, Leafs 4;

RED FISHER The Gazette October 10, 2005

You can introduce gimmicks such as the shootout, allow a two-line pass, throw an armlock on what goaltenders can wear and how far they can wander from their crease, initiate zero tolerance on obstruction tactics (for now) in the new, warm "My NHL" - but there's only one constant that truly matters: leadership.

Admin Edit: Do not post full copyrighted articles. You are only allowed to post a small sample, then you can post a link to the rest of the article. But thanks for posting the article, its a good one.

  9. That was the point I was trying to make -- you dont trade any player, but especially a streaky player like Dags-- when he is cold, you cant get anything. We dont have to make a trade now so eventually Dags will get chance, maybe he will contribute.

I'd love to see BG trade Dags for a good player or a 2nd round draft pick, but we should wait until we find out if these lovely anti- obstruction application of the rules will stay or as in the past they water it down at mid-season.

  10. It came from this:

    Quote:

"If someone decided to trade Dagenais for Ovechkin after one game, would you be against it? If yes, maybe this isn't your site." ( bolding added)

It just goes to show that I shouldnt post at 3AM-- when I'm tired I get a little grumpy and I interpreted that statement more strongly than it was probably intended. Mea Culpa
