I too would like to make a trade where we give up nothing of value (a third pairing D, Josh roy and a 2nd) and get Evgeni Malkin in return.
I included Mailloux not to throw him away but because i felt i needed an actual valuable piece to get a first ballot HOFer back
Just leave our RDs alone and make a deal, does that compute with you?

Definitely on board for a Malkin trade, but I wouldn't include Mailloux in that deal unless we were getting more back. We are already thin on RD, so I don't think it's in our best interest to send one away, especially one who could actually pop. I'd look at dealing Struble or even Arber instead.

I think he is fantastic.
He seems like a higher energy Slafkovsky to me
If you view him as a better player and is valued more to a team moving forward than Slafkovsky, then I am glad that you aren't in the Canadien's GM role, respectfully.

Is Mathew Knies worth an offer sheet and the challenges that brings?
Leafs would match 9.3 million but probably wouldn’t at say 10.5 million. Two firsts, second, third is a steep price.
OFFER SHEET AAV
COMPENSATION
$1,544,424 or less
None
Over $1,544,424 to $2,340,037
Third-round pick
Over $2,340,037 to $4,680,076
Second-round pick
Over $4,680,076 to $7,020,113
First- and third-round picks
Over $7,020,113 to $9,360,153
First-, second-, and third-round picks
Over $9,360,153 to $11,700,192
Two firsts, one second and one third
Over $11,700,192
Four first-round picks
I wouldn't pay Knies 9+ million as a UFA, let alone give up two firsts, one second and a third on top of that

It's not big at all, but I placed a 10$ bet on Dallas on September 27th. 11 : 1
Looks like a good bet to me regardless of the size, currently a co-favorite with Florida at +420.
I was lucky enough to win a +700 on the Habs making the playoffs this year, and I have a bet on Marty winning the Jack Adams at +4000. I don't think he will win it, but still love the bet!

Dallas feels to me like a team that is due. They’ve been bubbling around the top of the league for what, five or six years? Rantanen is a huge addition. Might be their time. (One could say the same thing about the Leafs, but I would rather drink my own blood than believe it).
Dallas has been my Stanley Cup pick for like 5 years now, and they somehow keep adding quality prospects and players. The year that they made the finals I had a ridiculous bet on them preseason at like +2000 or something like that. They are absolutely stacked and just seem to be getting better.

I don't care if Crosby is 38, I also don't care if him joining makes sense for "our window". This would be the greatest Habs acquisition in my lifetime. Despite his age, he would instantly transform our entire team and his mere presence would have residual effects for years to come.
Dach, a 1st round pick, and Kapenen?
Both 1sts and Struble?
I can't believe that some are arguing against adding a top 5 player of ALL TIME that was a PPG player this season and who grew up as a Habs fan. Don't overthink it, just do it if you can.

Be very cool if Habs win, but cant see any good reason why anyone would pic them to upset.
Caps in 5 seems about right.
HabsWorld Predicts: 2025 Playoffs – Canadiens vs Capitals – HabsWorld.net
The Sportsnet broadcast just mentioned that since Laine rejoined the Habs after his injury, both teams were fairly similar in their record. Is that a good reason? What about a banged up starting goalie for the Caps, or their other injuries? What about the best prospect outside the NHL joining the Habs a week ago? What about the Caps letdown after the goal record? Washington hasn't won a round since their Cup win 6 years ago, and only have a few players on that roster, why are they so favored here?
-
I don't have any stats to back this up at all, but I think Washington might be one of the worst 1st seeds that I can remember. They seem to be sort of slapped together with spare parts that nobody wanted and have far exceeded expectations, possibly from a combination of chasing the goal record and hot goaltending. They do have some heavy forwards that can cause some chaos, but I don't believe they are a powerhouse by any means.

I tried for tickets to this game, but had no luck with my placement in the queue....was sold out by the time I got to the front of the line. Did any of you have better luck?
Nope, I couldn't get any in the pre-sale or in the general public sale unfortunately. Now all the tickets are listed for 2x face value. Contemplating going to Washington instead, tickets are still available and are much cheaper

Thanks guys, appreciate it.
I figured there would be an improvement over last year, just with the youth further developing alone, but the trade for Patrik Laine is what made me think we had a real shot at making the playoffs. I assumed the scoring would be a bit more balanced overall, but definitely great to see Suzuki and Hutson exceed expectations from mostly everybody.
I look forward to next year's prediction thread and seeing most of the point totals in the 90s and 100s, it's going to be a fun decade or so.

Well, one of two things are going to happen heading into the 3rd period:
We either make the playoffs unexpectedly this season, or we give up 3 goals in regulation, and potentially lose in perhaps mathmatically the biggest choke job of all time.
I'm here for all of it
-
I am more anxious about this game/playoff push than I was back during our cup run a few years ago. It's not that I bet them preseason at +700 to make the playoffs, or that I might win the preseason prediction contest for an unprecedented 3rd time (shoutout BC Habnut for winning a tiebreaker one year or it would be 4th), but because I really want to see more games this year from this squad.

Can you imagine the crowd very LOUDLY chanting DEMI-DOV, DEMI-DOVI can, and it is amazing.
I half jokingly called the Habs losing the last two games and Columbus winning theirs, to set the stage for Demidov tonight. I invited my Hawk fan buddy over to watch the greatness unfold, or the rapid decline of my mental health, either way he is getting a show.

So a win tonight and we are 2 points back of Sens.
Question: do you want the leafs thru one of the Florida team route or Caps then likely Canes?
I'd take the Atlantic conference route for sure. Not only because we owned the division this year, but because of all of the chaos that would ensue

How about you both accept MY post as the last word and we stop this discussion right here?

Unlike yourself, I have a life outside of this hockey forum and don't have the time lately that it takes to make dozens of posts per day and scour through other profiles to try to make a point (which was factually incorrect and misleading anyway).
Now go through all of my 2.8k posts since 2009 and tell me how many are political vs hockey related, you clearly have the time.
Just give it up for once, it's okay not to have the "last word"

The point is some stuff is about sports and politics. The topics overlap.
And if you dont like it, you dont have to read it.
If you dont like a tv show, change the channel.
If you dont want to participate in a discussion, skip it.
I can agree that stuff with no relation to hockey (such as the cause of a war) belongs in the off topic section of the board.
But stuff that is directly hockey related (and there is little more hockey related than Wayne F'ing Gretzky) can be discussed on a hockey forum.
And again i dont see you being the owner or the moderator of a board so get off your high horse of telling people that they cant post about Wayne Gretzky on a hockey board.
It was YOU not me, who started with telling people what they should and shouldnt discuss. And your decision on what cant be discussed because it isnt hockey related is WAYNE ####iNG GRETZKY, the greatest hockey player of all time.
Make it make sense.
If you read my initial post correctly, I didn't tell anyone what to post or not to post, I merely said that it would be appreciated if we don't include political opinions on a hockey
board. I never told anyone to "stop it" like Mr. High Horse himself did.
A few qualities of someone on a high horse:
* Constantly complaining to moderators despite doing literally the exact same thing they are complaining about
* Threatens other users in real life
* Threatens to leave the site because they don't like what they read
* Telling others to leave the site if they don't like what they read
Listen man, I just come here to share opinions about hockey, and I am certainly not the only one. Sure, there definitely is some overlap with politics in the discussion, but all of the extra B.S is not necessary. I understand that you like to argue more than my wife, but surely you can agree that there is a limit to what actually adds to the discussion, rather than what takes away from it.

Bump. Just want clarity so we dont anger @illWill
The causes of Ukraine War is probably too far.
Wayne Gretzky hanging out with people in Trump's cabinet while attending Ovechkin's record chase, is probably fair game to me though.
Ah yes, right on cue as expected, you didn't get the argument that you wanted from me previously.
So when someone voices their political opinion that opposes your view, you tell them to " stop it", but when I am trying to stop ALL political opinions ON A HOCKEY FORUM, I am "angered"? Got it.
I honest to god don't care who is running what country, or who is right or wrong, but I do know that I am sick of seeing and hearing talk about it everywhere I go. I would hope that I could come to a HOCKEY FORUM to escape from it but here we are. And not only that, I have to defend the position of a hockey fan looking to talk hockey. Insanity.

I think hockey players like Ovechkin and Gretzky have inserted themselves into the conversation, where its not so easy to discuss them without considering it.
Sure, if that's what people want to do, but I would rather just discuss hockey on a hockey forum. It's a wild concept these days I know
