A reminder that the KK hit was 5 minutes and a game misconduct, and the Niskanen crosscheck on Gallagher hit wasn't even a penalty.

Chris Lee can go f himself.

Don't forget AV with his quote about how it was a hockey play, Gallagher got up and was talking, and that it isn't Niskanens fault he is taller than him.

I feel a rage I haven't felt from hockey since I tried to take my skate off and stab a guy.

Edit: I didn't actually do that, it is a Happy Gilmore reference

You know, illWill has a point in a way. Drouin is a 15-20 goal, 45-50 point W.

Yes, he is a soft, unreliable, inconsistent, one-dimensional 45-50 point W. But still, those are serviceable numbers for a 2nd line FW in the NHL. Analogies with Kostitsyn and Galchenyuk are not inappropriate; those guys also put in credible seasons in that role, and like Drouin, they never seemed to improve; they just kind of arrived in the NHL as #6 FWs and flatlined thereafter.

Possibly the real problem with Drouin is that, on this team, he is expected to be a core piece and an offensive generator. What he really is is #6 FW secondary scoring.

And this gets to something I've long said about Drouin. He needs to be the 6th FW on a good team, an "added bonus" weapon to a club that doesn't rely on him to be more than that. Sadly, Montreal cast him as our Most Talented Player and a guy who was expected to drive the offence. I mean, remember - he was originally brought in to be our #1C, fer chrissakes.😄 The mind reels.

Perhaps if we had a stronger overall FW unit, we could carry Drouin and just be satisfied with his uninspiring point totals and his soft, inconsistent play, while enjoying those occasional bursts where he actually plays like an impact player.

As it is, we traded a puck-moving top-4 LD to get him - creating an organizational hole without solving any organizational weaknesses, which compounds the pain.

I agree, his expectations from some of the fan base are to carry the offense but he is who he is, a top 6 forward with glimpses of being elite and also garbage. He is paid accordingly, so it shouldn't be an issue. If we want to trash Bergevin for that trade then so be it, but i think the chance he would be closer to a point per game player was worth it at the time.

It is easy to dump on Drouin because since joining Habs he has scored at a 17 goals per 82 games pace ... he just hasn't produced at the level he was acquired to provide.

I agree that at the time it was a bold move but not a terrible trade ... unfortunately Sergachev has developed as hoped/expected and Drouin has not ... think he could blossom as a secondary scorer/assist machine on a team with a true sniper  (Colorado and MacKinnon?)... but as Habs roster has been constituted since he arrived, he has been the Habs most offensively skilled player (KK and Suzuki may have now exceeded him) but in his three seasons as a Hab he is 5th in goals scored despite being second in games played by 18 games amongst those top 5.

He averages 49 points per 82 game season for his career and is paid 5.5m per year and that seems about right to me. The only concern I had about the trade and still have is not that Sergachev is necessarily better, but that we traded a defenseman for a winger. But I was and am still hopeful he can play more consistently.

  4. I guess all it takes is a couple losses to get the boo birds all fired up.

It's easy to dump on the Drouin trade since he hasn't produced in these playoffs so far, but keep in mind that half the team has gone silent on the score sheet. Drouin was our best forward to start the year before he got injured. And I don't see how it was such a terrible trade at the time when we acquired a 3rd overall pick who just came off a 53 point season in 73 games as a 21/22 year old. I'd love to see Yzerman's reaction when Habs29 offers up a 2nd round pick for him like he suggested.

We’re evenly matched in goal (even have an edge there), but otherwise, it’s not even close.  Score is showing us to be more closer because of Price.

Games 1 and 3 could have went either way, game 2 was all Habs and I'll give game 4 to Philly. So at worst it is 3-1 Philly, could be 3-1 Habs, but should be 2-2 IMO.

At least getting shut out means that we didn't lose because of Price's gaffe.  Philly is playing like a well-coached team with a slight talent edge, we've controlled the play for decent stretches but just haven't got the bounces.  Very defensive series with not many pucks reaching the net.  You'd hope for Price to be the difference in this situation but Hart has been right there with him.

I think overall this series has been evenly matched, with Philly up in the series due to puck luck. That being said, it is a familiar story line with the Habs where we get scoring opportunities but fail to capitalize on them.

  7. I like our Hart better than their Hart

Not sure of any line up changes at the moment, had to post now since I won't have a chance later on today.

I like to put Toronto in the title because it is absolutely amazing that the Habs are playing playoff hockey in Toronto and the Leafs are not.

Side note: Carey Price turns 33 today

    Other side note: LET'S GO!

Vignault noted that Muller put the 1st line pp out at the end of the game to embarrass them and that he would tell his team that. I thought we were past that stuff in hockey.

I noticed that as well, seems like he is pretty pissed about that. Love the way they played but hopefully this wasn't something to fire up the Flyers.
