  1. Dandenault has played his entire 9-year NHL career with the Detroit Red Wings. He played 616 in Detroit, scoring 48 goals, 101 assists and 149 points. A solid defender, he is +46 in his career.

Dandenault was a standout for Sherbrooke, his hometown, in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. In two season, he scored 54 goals and 106 assists for 160 points.

+46 is incredible over a career. Glad to have him here.

TSN has him reported as making 1.7 million in his first year. Not 3 million.......

    Maybe it is progressive?

  2. Excellent article. A couple of things:

"This is the most unique market in North America. It’s the only market where French is almost required, and let’s be honest here, how many players want to deal with a second language as well as coming to a new city and dealing with the pressure cooker that is the Bell Centre. It’s a very different culture in Montreal, as anyone who’s ever lived there will agree."

French Canadiens and players who grew up loving the Habs are the only ones who want to come here.

All the pressure and speculation is a byproduct of a hockey town. I agree that it is hard on the players but I will say that it has its benefits as well. The Habs will fill the building and generate cash. Fans drool over every move....they are involved. That means they spend money. I do, t-shirts, jerseys, etc.

Is it really any different in Toronto? No, not really. Or is it different in say NFL crazy Indianapolis?

Do players like Kovalev make 4.5 million a year just for our entertainment?

Some players love the hockey towns, crazy media and fan involvement. I remember Kovalev pointing out his reason for loving Montreal so much.

We are indeed harsh, I certainly am at times. I want my team to win. I can't even call the Habs my team, they are a part of me and I them. I refer to the Habs in the first person.

Do you remember the cheers and ovation Saku got when he returned from his cancer scare? Man, it was incredible.

Remember Savage leaving? He cried, proudly displaying his habs tatoo.

I agree that not everyone wants to plat here but those that do play with everything they have through good and bad.

    :ghg:

  3. Montreal Canadiens re-sign star winger Alexei Kovalev

    posted August 3 @ 13:22, EST

MONTREAL (CP) - The Montreal Canadiens re-signed star winger Alexei Kovalev to an $18 million US, four-year contract Wednesday, a source told The Canadian Press.

The Russian sniper will earn $4.5 million a season.

Kovalev, one of the top forwards available on the unrestricted free-agent market, had other offers - including one from Pittsburgh - but decided to return to the Habs, where he had 10 points (6-4) in 11 playoff games in 2003-04 after being traded from the New York Rangers.

    This is making my day

Instead of trading Ribeiro I think Ryder or Zednik might be dealt, Ryder isnt making it easy on the habs to get him signed.

And... Instead of signing a UFA D, maybe we're going to trade for one? Maybe that was Bob's plan all along.

You are absolutely right but the possability of getting more great talent on the Habs has me excited (regardless of Satan or someone else)

a Dman is #1 priority right now- no question.

They need to use the remaining money to sign a great D-man, and leave a little bit extra for next season if possible, if you get my drift ;)

Unless we trade Riberio and Dagenais............:/)

  6. Have you noticed that no teams have made him an offer? Atleast nothing has been reported.

Bob did the right thing and maybe after receiving 0 offers Breezer will wake up and realize what he is worth.

I would resign him for a very small contract.

  7. I'm a little nervous too but Bob is doing the right thing. We can't go nuts...some players have signed deals that are too much money.

I am going nuts with anticipation but it will be worth it in the end.

My only question is about Kovalev. What is the hold up? Is the ball in Kovalev's court and we are waiting for his answer?

If so, he may find himself left out.

A 35 year old big man who sat for a year could come back slow and injury prone... perhaps some of these big moves and "powerhouse" teams could be big huge dissapointments in the upcoming season... exhibit A) Hasek 2003-04

That is a great point. How many people who didn't play over seas will have a hard time?

Regarding Hasek, I think the guy has mental problems. Remember the crazy stuff he pulled in Buffalo during the playoffs.....then all the stuff that happened in Detroit?

    He is nuts

  9. This has been posted in another thread but I can't resist!

    From Eklund:

    Forsberg and the Habs

I promised my friends in Montreal Fan990 that I would do something for them...so I made some calls and it is true that the Habs are in now in talks regarding Peter Forsberg. That is a jersey I would buy. (by the way I am kidding about calling around) (maybe)
