$64,000 Question is, other than Guhle, what Habs' LD prospect has more upside than Broberg?

Matheson, Guhle, Hutson, Harris and Xhekaj are our top-5 on LD.  If you were to slot Broberg in there, it would be Broberg/Harris.  I would give the edge to Broberg, some may disagree, but that's fine.

Realistically, Broberg is an improvement short-term, but in a few years when Hutson matures, Broberg is either bottom pair or 7th defenceman depending on if Matheson becomes expendable.  Any move with Broberg makes Xhekaj expendable even if Harris is on RD.  If the price is right, it's a problem I wouldn't mind having.

I firmly believe Broberg is another Petry situation where Edmonton's defense is so bad, there's no way he could look competent.  Whichever team gets him is getting a decent-to-good defenseman that's being squandered in Edmonton.

Next year may be an easier trade but I think Barron and Kovacevic will be quite ready for the responsibility next year, maybe Harris, too. Add to that Reinbacher and Mailloux in Laval, and I don’t think we need Savard next year.

As he's still under contract, having Savard in case Reinbacher or Mailloux is quite ready to make the full-time, isn't a bad problem to have.

It would be shocking if Savard isn't dealt at the deadline IMHO

It'll come down it if a team is willing to eat his 2 year entire contract at $3.5m AAV.  I doubt Montreal will have an appetite retaining any salary this season, considering the last retention slot would be way more valuable being used for Monahan if they are looking to trade him.

IMHO He doesn’t have a lot of value outside Montreal.

I could easily see teams like Edmonton or Toronto being interested in Savard if they can make the cap work.  Both teams are on the hunt for a defensive defenseman, especially one that can eat 20 minutes a game.

  4. Allen starting in net for Montreal, Montembeault backup.

    Red Wings projected lineup:

Alex DeBrincat -- Dylan Larkin -- Lucas Raymond

Andrew Copp -- J.T. Compher -- Robby Fabbri

Klim Kostin -- Daniel Sprong -- Christian Fischer

    Jake Walman -- Moritz Seider

    Ben Chiarot -- Jeff Petry

    Olli Maatta -- Shayne Gostisbehere

    Ville Husso

tweet says an ankle twist. I think its knee for sure

The way his leg twisted, best case scenario is it's a sprained ankle.  Knee is likely, but that type of rotation of the toe could easily cause spiral fractures, which is probably the worse case scenario.  At this point I would take missing the rest of the season as long as it's not a spiral fracture.

  6. "I would like to sincerely apologize to the entire Chicago Blackhawks organization, including ownership, management, coaches, trainers, employees, and my teammates. I would also like to apologize to my fans, and my family. I am embarrassed and I have let you all down,” Perry wrote.

“As a result of my actions, there has been speculation and rumours. I am sickened by the impact this has had on others, and I want to make it clear that in no way did this situation involve any of my teammates or their families. Most importantly, I want to directly apologize to those who have been negatively affected and I am sorry for the additional impact to others it has created. My behaviour was inappropriate and wrong.

“I have started working with experts in the mental health and substance abuse fields to discuss my struggles with alcohol and I will take whatever steps necessary to ensure this never happens again.  I hope to regain the trust and respect of everyone who has believed in me throughout my career.

“Once again, I am deeply sorry."

Corey Perry's official statement published by TSN.

Seems pretty clear whatever the incident was, it was alcohol was definitely a factor.

A whole lot easier said than done with Anderson. I mean, maybe we could move him to EDM if we took Campbell’s contract back - but short of a buyout I don’t see a pain-free solution, unless he starts playing better.

Contracts are similar, but Anderson still has way more value than Campbell.

Don't recall the play ... did it start inside the trapezoid ... perhaps that is why it was allowed ... the rule came in to stop Brodeur and others from roaming almost to the corner to play "dump-ins" and defeat the forecheck.

It did, but goalies can't handle the puck outside the trapezoid below the goal line.  Once the puck is outside of that area goalies can't touch it.

Only plays I recall he played the puck inside the trapezoid.

He was pinched by a Montreal player and toe dragged the puck outside the trapezoid before he released it.  The Sportsnet feed replayed it and you could clearly see his stick and the puck was well inside the corner area before he released it.

It happens, was just pointing out he got away with it.

But if you have an employee struggling with alcohol or drugs, can you just terminate them without giving them any options for help first? If alcohol abuse was the issue with Perry, why not direct him to the player’s assistance program? I’m not an HR expert (though I do have some passing familiarity with these things), but I suspect Perry would be within his rights to launch an HR complaint.

I’d speculate, then, that it was probably something else.

But what if Perry was offered the program and he refused?  That would give grounds for termination.
