  1. Yes, but the Oil wouldn't touch it.

Also the Oil are not as in need of defencemen as many believe.

The Oilers are in need of a defenceman. That being said, Markov is not what they are looking for. I get to talk hockey with a lot of Oiler fans as I'm living in Edmonton right now. The general consensus is either a top pair shut down defenceman or a star goalie. Alot of people here were optimistic about the possibility of Bernier, Luongo(not so much), Yandle, Suter, and Weber being on the move. On the back end Petry is supposed to be able to round out the only other offensive defenceman they need. They have too many talented forwards to not have on the PP.

Their defence last year was running with 4 NHL caliber defencemen, much like ours was. The difference was our NHL caliber defensemen sucked in our own end, barring Subban, Gorges, and Gill when he was with us. They really need a big minute eating, solid, top pair, shutdown guy. Lets be honest here, you don't trade off Yakupov at this stage for anything less than star player. Some have even agreed with me that they should of traded the pick or Yakupov and a bit more conditionally to get Weber's rights. would be a hard trade to sell, but if done early enough Nashville might have kept Suter.

  2. Not sure how you can predict stats when your don't know how many games, if any, will be played this year. It's easy to say Patches will get 50pts, but if there is only 40 games, he's playing at a Gretzky/Sakic/Lemieux level. While not impossible it is improbable.

  3. Cole came to Montreal because no one else offered the same dollars or term. When we signed him the term scared me - still does.

While I'd love for Parise, Suter and weber (next year), coming to Montreal, these are guys that EVERY team is going to be willing to throw money and term at. If you are Parise and have no emotional attachment to Montreal, would you pick Montreal if you can get similar or more money to play with Datsyuk in Detroit, crosby in Pittsburgh or Kopitar in LA??

Parise wants to be the go-to guy on the team he signs with. Which would rule out all 3 teams you listed because he isn't going to be that guy. In Montreal he would be the go-to guy, so I wouldn't rule out Montreal at all.

Here's a crazy Eklund rumor that raised my eyebrow, a little far fetched, but not really.

Seems like right now NJ is entertaining the option to trade Kovy and re-sign Parise. Reason being after his performance in the finals they team feels they would be better off with Parise and without Kovy since they need to choose between the 2, Parise won't re-sign with Kovy. Why this is so important is because apparently the team is for sale and from a seller standpoint they feel the team with worth more with Parise and without Kovy.

Now comes the interesting part, supposedly 4 teams are in on Kovy, Detroit, Minnesota, NYI and Montreal. Not sure how I feel about Kovy's contract with us, but it would definitely take care of any top-6 forward issues we're having.

  4. Does anybody actually watch Kaberle play? For **** sakes, get over his 40 points per season.

As a solitary player Kaberle is useless in his own zone and great in the offensive zone. Hockey isn't a solitary sport. All the time's Kaberle is on the ice when he's scored on who is his pairing? Camopli? Weber? Diaz? Notice how Kaberle looks bad when he's out there with a player just like him, useless in his own zone. All we need is a cheap stay at home defenseman to go with Kaberle and there won't be any talk about how bad he is. Mark my words.

Pick up a Mike Commodore or Bryce Salvador or Shane O'Brien for example, pair them with Kaberle and all of a sudden you have a good 3rd pair and Kaberle doesn't look so bad. Commodore is only getting 1m this season and is a big defensive body.

It's not all about how bad Kaberle is, it's also about how bad his partner is.

  5. Who says he can't handle it?

I have no problem with getting a quality back-up, but I suspect management's thinking is: we've got a horse who can play 65 games per year, why bother getting some guy who wants to play 35 behind him? Also, do guys like Garon want to sign here in the knowledge they'll get 15 games per season?

Anyway, Price may not be Superman but he is in NO WAY the problem, or a problem. Fans who think he is are simply delusional - so hysterical over this disaster of a season they are unable to sift the good from the bad. It's like bitching about Subban. Makes no sense.

This. Price's personality isn't why we're not looking for a good backup, it's his work ethic. Why piss away more cap space on something we don't need? If in the 70 games price starts we can't get a foothold on a playoff position, a backup taking over some of the load isn't going to change that.

  6. Our goal differential is all because of commitment. We'll lose a few by a goal, then all of a sudden have a blowout win. Blow out wins when our team plays like a team and the rest of the time half of the players on the ice don't give a rats ass about hockey. We are better than our record. If every player played for 60 minutes each game, we would not be in 28th. Anyone who denies this is just fooling themselves. Next season we need to start fresh from the top down.

  7. There are more forwards than D and Eller's ice time has been 4th line minutes for more than just a game or two now. I'm not sure the two can be compared all that much.

We have 7 defensemen dressed, can bench Kaberle and play 3 full pairs.

Just one more reason he shouldnt have been fired.

There's still many reason he still had to go.

    Not to toot my own horn too hard, but;

Either way I predict 2 1/2 periods of lazy play and a burst in the last 10 minute, when down by 3, only to lose 4-1.

  8. Either way I predict 2 1/2 periods of lazy play and a burst in the last 10 minute, when down by 3, only to lose 4-1. Could be used to predict it for either team really.

2nd almost done and I'm right so far.

On a side note, if everyone is getting benched for the rest of the game because of bad play, why isn't Kaberle benched for the rest of the game after the first goal? That is total crap, don't give forwards a chance to redeem themselves, but let Kaberle fail time and time again.

  9. Everybody's assuming what players will play wing. The biggest problem is a lot of centers detest playing wing. It changes their perspective of the ice and the biggest reason is wingers play more of a stop and start game. Anyone who has played hockey knows that stopping and starting is more tiresome than keeping momentum all the time.

Anyone here honestly think Carter is the answer to LA's scoring woes? If it solves all LA's offensive problems, great, but getting players to play out of their position makes a big difference. Higgins at center? Weber on wing? When this fails, Richard or Carter or Kopitar will become available and LA will try to get rid of one or more for wingers to do the job properly. If LA doesn't make the playoffs, it probably will be as soon as the draft. Not asking for blind faith or anyone to believe me, but it will happen.

  10. Kostitsyn will be good on a team and a line with a superstar. If he were to go to Pittsburg, for example, and play on a line with Malkin or Crosby, Kostitsyn would look amazing. Get a few 2nd assists or 1st assists on goals by players who need no help to score would do wonders for stat padding. It's why he did so well the year he was playing with Pleks and Kovy. If we could create that situation for him his value would go through the roof.

  11. twitter abuzz that a deal of Carter to LA for JJ and a 1st rounder is close

If thats the truth Lombardi needs to be fired more than Gauthier does. A 1st and a potential future top 20 defenseman for Carter? They already have Richards and Kopitar, they need a winger more than another center.

  12. Don;t laugh but there has actually been reports of both the ISlanders and Coyotes looking at Gomez. He is not as bad as he is playing in MTL. I still doubt he goes anywhere but I have heard rumblings none the less.

If there were teams looking at him, he would be gone. I don't think we could give him away if we tried. Gomez for a 7th is too much for Gomez right now.

  13. Now, the 'party animal' thing, that's a genuine issue. The Habs would have to proceed very, very carefully on this front - activating every last contact throughout the league trying to discern the extent to which Carter has a real problem or is just an ebullient young man who needed to mature a bit (c.f. Ribeiro). If it's the latter, then he's right at the age where guys are usually starting to settle down and we could probably roll the dice.

This. He's getting to the point in life where you settle down and mature a little, so I doubt it'll be an issue. If it is, Montreal is not the city for him, it's like the Vegas of Canada for party animals.
