    2024 NHL Draft mailbag: Beckett Sennecke’s rise, Tij Iginla vs. Cole Eiserman and more - The Athletic

    On Catton;

    "Some have concerns about whether his defensive game/habits are quite there considering his size, but he was one of the best penalty killers in the WHL this year and has shown some promise down the middle."

    For what is worth, Wheeler favours Eiserman over Iginla.

    The Oilers were awful last night, no intensity. How many shots did they get in the 2nd and 3rd period combined?  Five?

    They scored early and thought it would be easy, perhaps a good wake up call.  Full credit to the Canucks who played with intensity. I think game 2 will be different.

    4-1 lead over confidence & then Draisaitle injury was difference makers.

    I have no interest in trading down.  I'm more about trading up.

    But, Hughes need a partner and a deal they just cant refuse, to get it done.

    And it just dosent happen in the top 5.

    Habs got lots of good stuff they could use for trade, but is someone (Demidov or Lindstrom i assume you are thinking of?) at 2 or 3 even gonna be 'that' much better than the 5th pick?

  4. Wheeler of The Athletic has i think 5 d-men higher ranked than Reinbacher this year.

    But, seems slim chance Habs will take a d-man.

    Not sure any top 5 draft pick has ever been moved just 1 year later, before even dressing 1 game in the NHL.

    Trade back if need be and take a forward.

    I suppose could pick a RH d-man (Artyom Levshunov or Zayne Parekh) and trade Mailloux with Jet pick for a forward perhaps?

    But, just cant see Reinbacher being dealt.

  5. What would a goofy value or ranking be for the young d?

    Hutson 1st rd pick+++

    Guhle 1st rd pick ++

    Reinbacher 1st rd pick+

    Mailloux 1st rd pick

    Xhekaj a young top-six forward (Pefetti)(combined with Jets pick?)

    Harris 2nd rd pick +

    Struble 2nd rd pick +

    Barron 3rd rd pick

    Kovacevic 3rd rd pick

     His stats show lots of assists, unlike an Eiserman and didnt hear he was below average defensively. But think the bigger Lindstrom/Iginla would be preferred by Hughes (and most HabFans i think?).

  8. Celebrini going 1st.

    And Demidov seems interesting fit with Bedard; but, hopefully the Hawks have a bigger hole on defense.

    Which way will the Ducks & Columbus likely be leaning,  d or forward?

    (Recent poll had Lindstrom as Habfans favourite to draft after Celebrini, i still would prefer Demidov/Catton for their skill/offense, but a potential powerhorse like Lindstrom is intriguing for sure.)

    The only "issue/question" I might raise is no mention of goal-scoring as a strength ... THAT is an obvious need for the Habs in the years to come, and something largely missing from the current prospect pool.

    Catton scores alot.:thumbs_up:

    But brings another factor to mitigate and selecting taking into account immediate future years. As in this case 2023/2024 as a whole. Surely they would have scouting reports on the 16/17 yr olds with the 17/18 year olds. 1 year out

    I imagine the Hab scouts keep tabs on young top prospects in prep academies, rookies in CHL, U-16, etc and lots of youth tournaments.

    Last year it was noted, will be more high quality d-men in the 2024 draft and am sure Mgmt knew this.

    But; picking by position might not be best way to go with high school kids, to then be hedging bets on next year's draft 16 yr olds.:spamafote:

    Canadiens hope luck in on their side at Tuesday's NHL Draft Lottery | Montreal Gazette

    "The NHL introduced the draft lottery in 1995. In the first 29 years of the lottery, the team with the best odds has won the No. 1 pick 11 times. ...

    Three times, the team with the fifth-best odds of winning the draft lottery (the Canadiens’ position this season) have won the No. 1 pick. Those three teams were the New York Islanders, who selected goalie Rick DiPietro in 2000; the Blackhawks, who picked Patrick Kane in 2007; and the New Jersey Devils, who drafted Nico Hischier in 2017."
