  1. Gabriel Dumont recalled by Montreal Friday March 1 10:30 pm
  2. now only if we can get the new group running the Copps to fix the damn ice. ps-I'm more surprised to see the article re Abbottsford possibly moving to Utica NY. Right now getting players from Abbottsford to Calgary is pretty easy via Westjet. Moving to Utica would sure mean some interesting connections to get to Calgary. Utica was once home to the AHL Utica Devils. -and please, if Montreal gets an AHL affiliation in Laval in years to come, the name won't be Bulldogs. Big Mike owns the name and would likely just switch affiliates in Hamilton. -as far as Halifax, you had your chance with the Vees
  3. and two new referees tonight. Pierre Lambert (39) and TJ Luxmore (49). After a couple soft calls, I think I'd rather see Jeff Smith or Koharski-lol ps-Dumont called up to Montreal right after the game
  4. defense was just plain awful in the first and early part of the second. Sorry to say this but I'm seeing too much Beaulieu. Score flattered the Dogs as Binghampton are down 11 players (and I feel like we were playing the Elmira Jackals). Tenute and Blunden were the usual horses tonight. Maybe time to give Zach a rest. St. Denis looked rusty. and of course, no Avtsin.................. one positive is the three years arena reknewal and Habs affiliation. Now if they can only get the folks who are now running the Copps to fix the ice. I guess it was a bad omen tonight when one of the Zamboni's crapped out pregame dumping huge mounds of snow on the ice
  5. I couldn't help but notice that Desjardins seems to have picked up his game with a couple shutouts with Syracuse, Has won all 4 games he started with a GAA of 1.00 Change of scenery did him good
  6. it's really hard being a fan of a team from outside of Toronto with 99% of the English broadcast media centred there and with teams owned by said broadcast media. Being from Oakville, twenty miles west of Hogtown, I never got caught up in the propaganda, even though graduating from college there (Ryerson). Maybe my hatred of con man Leaf owner Harold Ballard had something to do with it and how he fubared the Hamilton Tiger Cats. I will give Sportsnet some credit as Bob McCown's *Fadoo Productions have produced an excellent series on the Saskatoon Blades, coached by ex Hamilton Bulldog coach Lorne Molliken. McCown refuses to drink the company Kool Aid which is refreshing. I think it helps too that a couple of McCowns panel members-Steve Brunt and Damien Cox-are both from Hamilton and it is just far enough away from Toronto that they've developed a bit more of an outsiders view (and perhaps more neutral as a result). *Fadoo Productions came from his favourite expression about "Not giving a flying fadoo!"
  7. Habsfan-I'm the same way as you. Can't stand to watch the idiot Toronto centric broadcasters and unfortunately, Cogeco dropped RDS from our package. I just check the scores every once in a while and hope for the best. Will listen to Bartlett late in the game if we're ahead. Pass the tylenol. I've always had a conspiracy theory too that it always seems if the Leafs are behind by a goal late in a game, the opposing team will get a trivial penalty.
  8. one of my favourite (not) zebras Dave Lewis made it a little closer in the third than it needed to be and failed to penalize the Ice Caps when Chaput was tackled with 46 seconds to go. There was a fantastic group of well behaved and super enthusiastic youngsters there from Quebec and they were so well behaved, I wish the local groups could take note. Small crowd tonight but no walk up per se due to the crummy weather and being a Tuesday night. (even the pandhandlers in front of the rink were conspicuous by their absence-lol)
  9. gawd I hate shoot out. That bonus point really skews the standings and has since it was introduced. Time to stop giving a skills competition win the same value as a regulation win
  10. BBP-I think the two Admirals might have been due to one team migrating from another league (in this case the IHL when it folded) -kind of a lacklustre game made more annoying by 2000 little kids with thunder sticks who seem to have a rather short attention span and then start annoying everyone. Ushers were likely watching the Daytona 500 in the bar. When we were at a SF Bulls ECHL game in Nov., the ushers had stop signs reading "please wait for the whistle". (Wish they were universal). Normal hockey etiquette dictates that but the once a year parents bringing in the kids are more interested in standing up mid play for another beer run. -officials-mediocre at best with too many missed calls -PBP crew mentioned post game that the Dogs have no natural goal scorers. Brian, I'll let you comment (couple guys on the current roster were touted as such). Admiral's goalie Magnus Hellburg is huge-listed as 6'5"-almost looked bigger. Blunden was very good again and could have won the Insurance award. Stortini missed point blank when the game was in reach. Milwaukee tough guy Bryan McGratton, Hamilton resident and former addict, was trying to get something going with Stortini. Ex Dog Brad Winchester played for the Admirals tonight. -once again. PBP post gamed droned on with stats ad nauseum. Gave AHL scores and mentioned one ex Dog (Wyman) got a goal for someone else but then gave the NHL scores with goalies and goal scorers. I don't listen to an AHL broadcast for NHL scores.
  11. listened to the end of the game and post game show on the way home from the Senior AAA playoff game in Dundas. The post game show sounds a lot more like it should be (and could be). Marinaro adds a lot to the broadcast. Actual talk about the game and less meaningless stats---(i.e. "if the Dogs score first" etc). Still bugs me that Derek will give AHL scores without scoring stats but will give NHL scores with scoring stats. Tends to forget which league he is covering.
  12. reported in the Feb 21 Montreal Gazette that HC Biel of the Swiss A League report they have signed Robert Mayer for the next two seasons. It's on HC Biel's website too
  13. anyone happen to know what the time delay is on the internet radio broadcast? For example, the NHL.com had the score showing 3-2 about 10 seconds before I heard the radio call of the Islanders second goal. If I just answered my own question, I guess I wonder why there is a delay. (I have this problem when I watch CBC English TV-usually get p.o.'d at Bob Cole---turn off the tv sound and switch to the internet radio broadcast but the delay is annoying)
  14. Greg played well the last couple games but I'm pretty sure he isn't 100% after the fight the other night where he spent the five minutes in the dressing room rather than the penalty box. Blunden seems to give his everything and I am in awe as to how much ice he can cover for a big guy. He bales out his team mates almost every shift. The Stortini situation-it's almost laughable seeing defensemen trying to give him a home run break away pass when he has little speed, I ponder if in many cases we're simply getting outcoached?
  15. I think the Blue Rodeo song "Lost Together" might aptly describe the play tonight. Defense was almost non existant and the coaching seemed to be mixing up the defensive pairings. I'd love to see player times but I get a feeling Pateryn is not 100% and I didn't even notice him until half way through the third period. Passes were not crisp and it was noticeable that the ice was wet in the third, likely due to a Rum promotion with a F-150 crew cab on the ice not getting off until the 12 minute mark of the second intermission. Seemed to be a lot of falls on bothsides afterwards. Remember when there used to be a trip to Montreal every game courtesy of VIA Rail? Now Appleton makes people quallify every game for a chance at one trip. Losers got a cheap Dogs Jersey (not made by Rebok) with Appleton on the name plate and numbered XV, but I digress. I will give them credit for promoting a new Rum and Gingerale Appleton drink called the Bulldog which they were selling for $4.75 You know one of my pet peeves has always been officiating. I'll use Derek Will's line that referees Jeff Smith (Hamiton native btw) and Ryan Murphy "must have had hot dates" as they only called one penalty each and Rochester's was caused by chirping about a non call. It must be confusing for players going from Koharski's way of calling a game to Smith who calls nothing. Both teams were deserving of a lot more infractions. I'm still amazed at the amount of ice time Stortini is getting. Coaching seems to be changing his role from designated fighter to a regular forward but I think what is being asked of him is beyond his talent level. Sounds like the team is not heading to Montreal until Thursday for the Friday game. Wonder if a couple extra days might help???
  16. nothing outstanding really-had a post late in the game save him. Looking at the video from last night now up on the Dogs website, I agree with the radio crew that it appears Houston D-man put one in for us
  17. interesting game but made so by the ineptness again of referee Terry Koharski. This time he had a helper in Kendrick Nicholson who the league has so far kept with older refs rather than solo. Tone was pretty well set when Grantham boarded Pateryn heavily (boarding-face plant) in front of TK early in the game with no call. Hagel was infuriated and cross checked Grantham and then they dropped the gloves. Got to give Kyle credit as it was a middleweight vs heavyweight tussle. 7 Powerplays for Houston, 3 for Hamilton says it all. Seems to be a gag order on the broadcast team again. Most peculiar was a scrum in front of the Houston net which led to a Pateryn-Bagnall fight. Paternyn spent most of his penalty in the dressing room. I was worried he screwed up his arm again. Meanwhile Dumont was getting mugged by no less than three green shirts and no call! When he complained to TK, he received a 10 minute misconduct. -The soft second goal on Tokarski-I think everyone except the linesmen thought if was offside. -glad to see the fans picking the three stars via texting got changed to picking the only first star and Bournival made it idiot proof. The choice of music picked by texters unfortunately was every 13 year old's wet dream. Pepsi gave out a handful of prizes which seemed miniscule since we pay dearly for their products at the arena ($4.00 bottles of water) -I guess I'm getting old but I really hate the sponsored power plays and penalty kills. At least they don't announce when penalties are over like in Cleveland
  18. and to confuse things. Hershey's Leblanc is a Hamilton native! LOL Not the most exciting game all year-Hershey used the trap big time in the second period. I had reservations when I saw (referee) Terry Koharski was working alone. Zach took a stupid penalty in the first (called roughing but could have been called instigating). He went into a scrum to rescue one of his team mates who was getting roughed up and Koharski who is vertically challenged only had eyes for Zach. Zach got 5+2 Marshall only got a fighting major. The penalty led to the 1st Hershey goal. But man is he ever getting a lot of ice time and almost scored in the third, The tripping penalty on Tenute was a phantom call as it happened in front of me and Joey was 5 ft from the guy that went down. Ref was out of position. Tinordi was back and looked shakey at times. I still think he is a work in progress and anyone that thinks he should be in the NHL next season must be dreaming. Pateryn, since his return, looks pretty steady Broadcast crew won't give up their dream of the playoffs but I guess they're paid to say that. Still drives me crazy that they normally give the AHL scores post game with zero details but give out the NHL scores going into detail re goalies & scorers. They could at least give us the scorers and goalies in our AHL conference. 4 busloads of Hershey fans there tonight-kudos to their long established fan club ps-classless Garrett Stafford was trash talking former team mate Mayer as they crossed paths going off after the second. Also, the ice plant must be on its' last legs-very snowy after the 7 minute mark most periods. Beaulieu was even cleaning along the board with his stick during tv breaks and firing the snow down the tunnel by his bench
  19. Dogs win 3-2. Beaulieu gets credit for the winning goal but some folks figure Dumont got it. To me, second goal looked like Tenute all the way but it must have hit Blunden on the way in. Comical watching Marlie Coach Dallas Eakins (why does everyone pronounce it like Akins?) get the boot from the game for protesting too much. He threw his clipboard on the ice and was about to let loose with a folding chair. I think he thought there might have been interference on the winning goal. He didn't like a goalie interference penalty his team took but the second Marlie goal could have been waved off for incidental contact. Officials were Dave Lewis from Oshawa and Darcey Burchell from Hamilton. Darcey went out of his way earlier in the game to show he wasn't favouring his hometown. If you check the box score, you see why we sometimes question who picks the three stars. It's not the CHAM radio crew btw. Dumont has 3 assists-may be changed to 2 assists and one goal and doesn't get a star but instead gets the bonus award-the Dan Lawrie Insurance Hardest Working deal ps-regardless of what the radio crew says, I won't miss the Blue and White one bit for the rest of the season and the sub class of Laff Nation that shows up wearing outdated Leaf garb.
  20. coach in the Bakersfield Condors clip is former Quebec Citadelle/Hamilton Bulldog Matt Odette
  21. just got back. Yep-first time I've seen it but the Dogs were getting another penalty (after just killing one) and the Texas forward threw it back to his D man with the goalie pulled. Trouble is, the D man was out of position and it was a beautiful shot dead centre into the "yawning cage". We were kind of hoping Mayer might have been the last one to touch it but it appears Jason Desantis was the man. They took for ever to announce the goal (perhaps checking things out). Did two promos first which IMO takes the crowd out of it if they screw around with the announcements. Another first was a call made by referee Jamie Koharski where one of the D (Joe Stejskal?) got a penalty for delay of game and the puck went up and hit the safety netting even with the goal line. It was impossible to shoot the puck out from 10 ft from the corner glass without hitting something and it appeared to deflect off the riser or what ever the top of the boards is called. Guess I'm used to the atypical calls. The puck dropped through the gap at the top of the glass and into the first row of seats.-----------. Pateryn looked good tonight-Avtsin made some very nice defensive moves!!!!-really didn't miss Tinordi, and Corbin looked much better than last night. Zach is getting a lot of ice time even on PP's. Too bad Pateryn hadn't been healthy all season. Very good team effort. David just slew Goliath ps-Mayer was absolutely superb. The Jeckyl and Hyde nature of the goal tending has been giving the fans ulcers all season.
