Well, sucks for him that Matheson & Guhle are both healthy and Hutson likley suiting up in Hab jersey this season for a token game or three?, hope Mailloux & Trudeau get a game at least before end of season.

    It just looks so awkward for lefties to play right side; too many negatives;

backhand giving and taking cross ice passs & backhand at opposing blueline along the boards... some can manage 'OK' but Guhle/Harris are obviously better on normal side.

Guhle is playing the right side and has been for a while.

Xhekaj has been second pair with Savard as of late, which is a good test for now.

I seem to remember that you had Mysak as a fringe 1st rounder at the time and that you were excited about this pick.   Sucks that it didn't pan out. :(

Yeah i liked him in junior.  I think the covid season cancelling the OHL didnt help him.  He basically lost that year when he should have been developing.  Hes seemed to become a bottom six AHL guy too.

They are likely getting Roy back soon I think. Habs need a roster spot soon, unless trades happen.

After the trade deadline the 23 man roster limit disappears.

I'd paper Roy down so he's eligible for AHL playoffs, but then call him right back up. He should play NHL games for development as he's succeeding against that competition.

The reputation of doing right by the players is more of a Gainey, Bergevin thing than HughGort.

The current crew is doing right by the rebuild and it is all business

    Not true at all.

The issue of doing right by the player has been something that has come up in the Monahan trade, in the Allen situation, Petry (both times), Edmundson, and in a number of others.

but sure, crap on this front office and praise the last one.  You could have showed me this post with no name on it and I would have known immediately who wrote it, its very predictable.

But yeah Bergevin was so good for the players, he banned legends like Believeau and Lafleur from talking to them, such a good guy that Bergevin.

  5. Ideally the 2nd line is made up of Dach, a free agent/traded player, and then the third spot is Roy vs Newhook with the loser on the third line.

That said, if they can't get a big acquisition, it could be Roy - Dach - Newhook.

Either way, I think we want a top 9 that can all provide some offence, especially since we are likely to use 8 forwards on the PP (4 per unit).

My belief is that KK/his agent/Dundon/Waddell circumvented the CBA by signing a one-year RFA contract, but had agreed to the terms of the subsequent 8-year deal before the offer sheet was signed ... the agreement avoided KK being due a $6.1M qualifying offer in the summer of 2022, but made the offer sheet harder for MB to match by being artificially inflated ... AND ... allowed the second (total) contract AAV to be lower by making the actual length 9 years, two more than could have been provided in an offer sheet.

Yes, certainly possible, but who is to prove when that was discussed.  There is no evidence of tampering prior to July 1st, and even if there was, this happens with every team in the league.

Your issue could be worth the league looking into (they won't but it should have been).

The other issue of having Finnish players talk to KK.... meh....

I agree about KK and I had a similar thought earlier in the season regarding Danault.  At 1 point he was somewhat in the dog house with LA but that has since changed to Dubois.

I don't blame KK's agent though.  I tend to think that there was likely some semi-illegal interference by Waddell and his Fins.  ex: he probably told his Fins that he wanted to offer sheet KK and when they were in Finland over the summer they ran into KK and told him that.  It seemed like KK was holding out knowing that he would get an offer-sheet - and he knew exactly what team.

Nothing is illegal if it happened over the summer.

Carolina (and anyone else) could talk to KK as of July 1st that summer.

Once you are RFA you can negotiate an offer sheet with any team.

The fact it took him til August to sign one when he could have signed 6 weeks earlier, suggests the opposite, there was no illegal tampering.

Its not like it was july 1st and hes free to talk to teams at noon, and hes signing paperwork at 12:15.  Those deals are always more suspicious to me.

I assume you have Celebrini at 1 and Helenius at 2.  Where do you rank Demidov and Lindstrom or are you keeping that a secret until you put your full list out. Thanks

Our end of Feb articles are coming out this week.  Its a three person panel voting.  Ill relase my own list after they are all out.

  9. Im going to the mat for Helenius.  Im telling you this is the guy.  Ive seriously got him at #2.

Theres just something there.  I think hes gonna be a star.

This is how i felt on Quinn Hughes back in the day

I didn't think it needed to be stated that it would come with a pre-negotaited contract extension, as almost every other trade of this sort, but that's on me for not explicitly stating that.  Rumor is he is at $11.5m AAV for an undisclosed amount of year right now.  I would safely bet he will settle around the $11m AAV mark.

Suzuki hasn't had a PPG season his entire career(0.78 PPG), possibly this will be his first.  At 24 years old, there is nothing to indicate Suzuki is elite level, let alone a franchise center.  He's no doubt a good top line or great send line center, which his career numbers clearly indicate.  That comment is something you would jump over if someone else said it.

I defended my point and its based not just on offence but his analytics that show selke level defence

    Hes grown every year

He also scored 66 points while spending half the season with Harvey-pinard, Armia, and others rotating on his wings at age 23.

Agree, although I'd try to barter them down to Wifi, LOL.

More likely they insist on Suzuki plus.

I don't quite get this turn in the thread, though. Yes, Friedman (an impeccable source) has reported that the Canes but a VERY serious offer on the table for Petterson. But the Canucks leveraged the threat of accepting that offer to force Pettersson back o negotiations. That means, in effect, that Pettersson has conceded that he wants to stay in Vancouver, and accepts that he will need to negotiate during the season, which he was loath to do. The general media chatter here in Van is that it is now a question of WHEN, not if, Petey signs - and for how much term. (12 million per seems to be the agreed-upon number).

All told, then, it is much less likely that we can prise him away from Vancouver than it was three or four days ago.

I agree completely.  Was just pointing out the value of an elite centre.

That said we might have one already.

Suzuki now sits 10th in the NHL for points by centres (12th on NHL.com but Reinhart and Barzal are playing wing this year no matter what NHL.com lists them as).

Meanwhile Paul Maurice said yesterday that he was impressed with Suzuki and said he plays a two way game like Barkov.  Could be just the opposing coach praising a guy, but I think people are starting to notice that his defensive game is getting to Selke quality.  Barkov is already acknowledged in that tier.

So we may have a true franchise level centre on our hands.
